And some in North Olmsted might be nice too!

Yes, west... Directly towards North Ridgeville. We only have 4 or 5 towers :/

I'm tired of these towers being placed in Amish country and in the middle of no where!

If any of you are truly interested in tower hunting, familiarize yourself wit the first page of this thread:

http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3906-how-to-spot-sprint-antennas-and-rrus-samsung-style/#

This will give you everything you need to know on how to recognize legacy vs NV equipment in a Samsung market. Once you see the equipment it is very easy to spot in the field first hand. I'd be willing to bet that greater than 70% of the sites in our market have most of the necessary equipment to be flipped to NV, but the reason it is taking so long is due to the fact that the NV and Motorola legacy equipment is not compatible; you will get a hard drop if you try to hold a phone call going from legacy to NV or vice versa. This is one of the main reasons why there has been so much activity in the more rural areas (Aimish country). They're able to turn on the equipment in smaller clusters out there due to the sparse population, but if they flipped the switch in say North Olmsted but not the surrounding areas the amount of commuters that travel through the area that would be negatively impacted would be astronomical. The same is true for other Motorola --> Samsung markets like Columbus and Cincinnati. Sprint learned from they're mistakes in Chicago (a first round Moto --> Samsung market), when they started to piecemeal the upgrades in populated areas the customer experience was horrendous. This is all my theory, but I believe we're going to be seeing some massive upgrades in the next coming months once closer to 100% of the sites in the more populated areas are ready to be turned on.

There are more "yankees" in those Amish areas then you think. The large farms are mostly Amish but all of the towns and all of the housing developements are yankees. Most markets are being built from the outside in, so they would be building in Parkman before Akron. That said, can't wait for them to get to our areas.

No problem. Me too. Actually I do wish they would fix ours instead of some of these other areas.

Looks like you have done pretty good so far. Have had a chance to look at the completed towers map in the sponsors section? I think you can zoom in and see where they are and which band they are using.

Are you talking about the interactive maps with the Yellow, green, etc pins and stuff? Yea I have looked at those! That's pretty nifty stuff! I drove up to Cleveland constantly checking for LTE and got nothing! Maybe it has to do with my N5 but I was disappointed

I've not been able to connect to any LTE since getting my N5. The only tower near me that I know of is the one located in Olmsted Falls near Cook and Fitch. I was able to connect to LTE with my Galaxy Nexus. I've tried resetting the data connection and both LTE only and Global settings. So not sure if it's the tower or the phone.

Dial *#*#4636#*#* tap phone info and set the preferred network type to LTE. The LTE only mode in the settings menu doesn't work for some reason.

Could it be an eCSFB issue? We have a thread about that on here somewhere.

So I am looking to sign up for Sprint service via Ting. Here is my question. Am I better off getting a wimax device such as the SII Epic 4g Touch because cleveland has good wimax coverage or should I get a 4G LTE device and hope that LTE gets substantially better.

I wouldn't want a Wimax device at this point. I would definitely go with an LTE one. Sprint has stated they'll keep Wimax up until 2015 I believe, but still, those are some old phones.

I'm not trying to buy some super-expensive phone. Even old SII is better than my Kyocera Rise on Virgin mobile...

No. They have made it so phones from other Sprint MVNOs (i.e. Virgin Mobile) can't be brought over.

Also I would like to say this forum is awesome. Until I discovered this I was totally going by Sprint's coverage map (garbage + lies) and would have been stuck with Wimax.

Just wanted to drop a friendly note to this market, I'm originally from Stow / Kent but moved to Columbus after college.  If you are able to download Signal Check Lite (free) or Pro it would be extremely helpful for your LTE confirmations.  I noticed that Mrick has done some sensorly updates, but it is difficult to tell where the LTE is coming from because it is so weak.  With the Signal Check App it recovers unique site information that allows you to confirm where the LTE is coming from.  Please note that the 1X signal is NOT always where the LTE is coming from.  For example, you could be on a 1X site 1/2 mile away but be receiving LTE from 2-3 miles away.  This happens quite frequently.  I've attached a screenshot to show you what I mean.  Feel free to ask me any questions or let the Columbus market know if we can help.  We are lucky enough to have a pretty strong group of people that know what they are doing.  Good luck and happy hunting!

EDIT: Also, when I was home from Christmas I was able to drive past the Newcomer Rd. tower at the Stow Bus Garage and noticed no NV work.  At least in regards to the RRHs, I wasn't able to drive up to see if any cabinets were there.

Ting will let you bring the s3 from mrick as long as it is sprint and not the virgin mobil or boost version.

Its the sprint version and its in mint condition. I'd rather someone else make good use with it. I got the N5 now and might use my upgrade in march to get the M8 or s5

Thanks! I'll start taking screen shots and posting when I'm connected to LTE so we can see what tower the signal is coming from

Yea, that's definitely a start.  I saw that Coz posted a little while back trying to get some members to create a spreadsheet / market map.  It's INCREDIBLY helpful.

    • Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.
    • 5G in the U.S. – Additional Mid-band Spectrum Driving Performance Gains T-Mobile holds on to it's lead in 5G Speed
    • Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're price for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.
    • Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.
    • Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
