Samsung Galaxy S4 [L720 Single Band] User Thread

Just installed the update. Didn't we have a mobile data quick toggle in the notiication pull-down shade on 4.2? I'm not finding it on 4.3. I used that a lot and it'll be more inconvenient to have to go into the menu to turn it on/off now. I do like the new 4GLTE icon, which makes it easier to tell the difference between 3G and 4G with a quick glance (assuming the 3G icon stayed the same, which I haven't seen yet).

Yes, it appears the data toggle is gone.  However, you can now limit the number of toggles present, which is a nice feature.  I never used the data toggle.  Just the airplane mode toggle to force a LTE search.

3G and 4G icons are different.  Although I don't see much of the 4G round these parts.

The WiFi is greatly improved on MJA, I'm not seeing drops constantly either like I was on previous builds.  There was a problem with multiple Access Point WiFi before. That seems better.

I like to keep data turned off when I'm not using it to save battery when I'm going to be away from a charger all day so I liked the data toggle. Not a big deal, I can still do it through the menus. I've never really noticed problems with Wifi connectivity with the phone but if Wifi's improved, that can't be a bad thing. I won't be able to test it ntil I get home from work.

I read wifi issues and boot boot issues as I recall now probably root related but still no update so I wonder

Those are root related only. My WiFi rocks now!!! If you're stock, do it!

i believe this is the s4 mini though correct?

No.  I posted a correction to your comment and even a clarification to the article.  Please go read it.  Too many people erroneously think that the tri band Galaxy S4 has to be the announced Mini.  In actuality, two tri band Galaxy S4 models have received FCC authorization.

Well I'll download it tonight over Google servers with DAM, I wonder why the update hasn't been pushed out to everyone at this point in time

The roll out is a standard staged roll out where device IDs are randomly sent the update everyday.

I'm really hoping that they (Samsung or Sprint) do some sort of good price trade for the S4 non-tri-band (SPH-L720) when this Tri-band comes out.  I will probably try to purchase this phone if the difference comes out near/under $200 as I already have the supplies as long as the battery and dimensions configuration is the same to the SPH-L720.  I'll have an upgrade due in March and then again in July if necessary as well though.  I didn't fully understand the situation when I bought the S4, I was such a greenhorn to this site.....oh, if only I read more back then.

you can add a widget for it, used to have a widget to toggle the data on my S2.

The more I use this phone with 4.3, then more I'm impressed. Overall speed is much faster, voice to text is better, data connectivity is a lot more stable, WiFi improved, etc., etc.

Wow, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks for the reminder. I guess I just got so used to having the toggle for it that I forgot about using a widget.

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and could potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
