Maybe it'll work if you drop it in the cache folder, since I think it gets downloaded there by default.

Nope. You would need to issue the command.

If you can't figure out the steps that are even in a how to video then I say you shouldn't be doing this at all.

He might be out of luck then, since he doesn't have an external SD card at the moment.

Has anyone gotten the update through the phone rather than downloading it from the web? I checked for an update, but nothing is coming up. Yet anyway.

I posted this in the GS3 thread.. I found it in the Android Central forums.

I have like 4 or 5 in the drawer. Wally world has them too pretty cheap for smaller sizes if you need one in a pinch.

Yeah, I have some too at home but don't have one in my new phone yet. I'm working out of town this week and didn't have time or really want to buy a new one when I've got some. And didn't want to wait until I got back to do the update.

When I booted to the software update menu the only choices were either the SD card or the cache or fota (?) folders where you could install the update from. Couldn't figure out how to copy the zip to either of those other places, or if it would even work.

I guess the update can wait for now.

I manually updated my brother's S3 last night. Had the file downloaded to my desktop, and just moved the file over to the external sd card on the S3. From there I booted into recovery, cleared my cache, then updated from the external sd. 10 minutes later everything was good to go.

Yes, several folks have reported getting the OTA, including my manager. Like other Sprint/Samsung upgrades, this rollout seems to be randomized.

I woke up this morning to the Phone saying it wanted to be updated!

I let it do its thing now things appear a little different after after the upgrade. Seems all went like it should.

After poking around some other sites and not getting a Jelly Bean update. I found a way to get my update. This may be old hat to most but was new to me.

Anyway to get the update.

Settings-applications - all-goggle services update - clear data -force stop- back to update - mine came up with last checked 12/31/1969. That didn't work. What I read was most people had to try twice which was my case FWIW I didn't force stop he second time. So.. I got the Jelly Bean update.

Most people update through KIES rather than wait for the OTA to roll through their region.

I was walking into Best Buy this past Saturday in Jacksonville to pick up my son's cell phone (Iphone 4S) that had a cracked screen that they swapped out through their plan.. As I was walking in, I got notified of the update.. I configured the phone to use the Best Buy WIFI and it went through it's paces...

So I now have JB... and so far so good though I don't see that much difference so far....

What sucks is that Android 4.2.1 is out now. Do you guys think Samsung will release another update for Android 4.2.1?

yes samsung will continue to release updates, here is an article from engadget about 4.1.2

I rooted my S3 and switched to CM10.

If you look on XDA, a *TON* of people across all carriers are complaining about the 4.1.1 introducing a lot of lag, and generally performing poorer than ICS.

Samsung really botched this update, with a series of poorly optimized releases.
