Does the Optimus G support HD Voice? If not, where is a comprehensive list of the handsets that support this feature?

and ones that support 800 (I assume only 1x mode, none support lte correct?)

[sorry to have semi-hijacked this thread]

Ah, I hated the kernel with his wee, beady eyes and that smug look on his face...

And now we know the origin of Robert's fortnightly fried chicken craving...

I've been running nexOGen for a week now. It's the best custom rom I've tried so far. It is stock based so it keeps the engineering screens and debug menus. Stock camera app and gps works great.

Robert, you promised to bring your bagpipes and perform this at the S4GRU Golf Classic in Tahoe next month, right?

  • 1 month later...

Found an Optimus G on Craigslist for $100 and I am looking for a quick phone to test LTE in the area, as I am currently on an iPhone4S.

Is $100 a good deal on this phone? How well does it pick up LTE signal?

Thanks!

Sounds like a very good deal, assuming the ESN is clean. On Swappa they seem to be going for $160-200 in very good shape. All reports suggest it's an LTE champ and the CPU is a beast.

I'm debating getting one now, or holding out to use my upgrade in January for the G2 or whatever ends up being the best triband performer then.

If its in good condition and has a clean ESN, that's a steal.

If anyone is interested, I have a perfect condition LG Optimus G that I would be willing to sell.  It was new in a sealed box when I bought it three weeks ago.  I used it for a week for testing purposes, and now it is back in the box.  It also has root level access.

I paid $265 when it was new in box.  After just a week of use, I would not mind getting $200 out of it.

Wait Wait Wait... Is this the first step on transforming S4GRU into a marketplace to sell used phones?  :P

I would prefer not -- unless we decide to dedicate a sub forum or thread to that end. But I think staff get a little bit of leeway, especially if we shell out for some devices solely for testing purposes.

Oh, I know. But a device "swap meet" might not be a bad idea. It would just need to have its own area in The Forums, probably limited to sponsors.

A swap meet wouldn't be a bad idea. But I would prefer S4GRU to stay away from selling and buying phones (shipping them), as it can create a lot of havoc, attract scammers, etc. I say leave it all at howardforums, swappa, and others. Staff of course should be free to sell whatever they want of course.

This could be great, I have several handsets I need to unload. I was going through boxes today preparing to move and came across this vintage Motorola analog handset.

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
