well if that isn't a perfect example of "the bars lie", I don't know what is. -60 perfect LTE signal with ZERO bars. ;)

Now if someone would go over there with a Note 2 andtake a screen shot and show that to ks-man over in the Chicago forum to put that debate to an end too.

On Sensorly, Broad @ Tulane Ave looks hot. I wonder where that's coming from.

I'll check it out but all dark purple with no lighter purple before or after it makes me feel like it is Sensorly pollution. I was there earlier and couldn't find a signal. It could also be someone mapping on foot and not walking far enough on either side to get a weaker signal.

Could y'all explain Sensorly pollution for someone who is slow to comprehend?

What causes it and how can make sure I don't do it?

Grazie.

I will let someone far more knowledgeable than me answer this but the basics are a phone with a Custom ROM or known issue, like the Nexus,or bug misreports signal strength.

Don't waste your time going on Tulane. I knew it had to be a rogue rom. Sure enough, -115 is what I got there. It really is a huge waste of time running around hunting lte when people are using roms that may be using conflicting data.

I know everyone here means well, and we all have the same goal, but please educate yourself about sensorly, what it does, and how you can contribute bad data if you don't practice safe sensorly.

"Practice Safe Sensorly..." I see a t-shirt in the making :-)

This is the nexus <excuse the pun> of my question. I have a stock Galaxy Nexus (that I flashed back to stock by following instructions from some guy on YouTube/XDA), so I want to make sure that I'm not polluting with this phone as I'm about to leave the building and create a trail of purple plops down Poydras.

Will get that done for you. I know this guy who could hook me up with a PRL that would be on Verizon while on 4g or even no signal at all with 4g. ;)

I don't know what is wrong with the Clayborne site but the speeds i got today were worst than 3G, I'm disappointed that this is the second tower where i have experienced this. The Ping is also not what i was expecting 80+. I know the market is not launched and this might change, but we have been waiting for a long time we should be getting better results.

You should be getting better results? Really? Says who? They are still actively working. You are an early adopter in an unlaunched market. Your carrier is blessing you with early access. No other carrier would even allow you the privilege of using the network this early. You need to keep this in perspective.

Also, normal ping is under 90ms on Sprint LTE.

Where were you when you were testing? I have had nothing but great results when under -100 and good to decent results under -110.

I will trade you my downtown tower that Sprint refuses to fix. You get NO data.. No 3g signal at all! It's a constant dance of reboots anytime I go in the elevator and lose signal then come back out.

I think I am just going to start calling them every day until they fix it.

Yes stuck on traffic.

I am assuming you mean 90 and not i-10. No clue why it is slower up there though. Maybe that side of the tower needs work or there is interference. I would expect a lot of random things like this until Sprint is 100% done as opposed to 2%. Worth noting I just got a ping of 87ms, 3780kbps Down, 2238kbps Up, and a signal strength of -115 from my couch 15 blocks away from the tower (I am 3 blocks off of St. Charles). I will take that over 3g any day and at -115 those speeds are pretty impressive.

    • T-Mobile has saved its 28Mhz mmWave licenses by using the point to point method to do environment monitoring inside its cabinets. The attachment below shows the antennas used: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/ApplicationSearch/applAdmin.jsp;JSESSIONID_APPSEARCH=LxvbnJuvusmIklPhKy6gVK7f9uwylrZ8LiNf3BqIKlDp3_5GxoBr!300973589!225089709?applID=14787154#   Here are the sites for Franklin county OH: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsEntry/attachments/attachmentViewRD.jsp?applType=search&fileKey=66518254&attachmentKey=21989782&attachmentInd=applAttach
    • Yep, there is a label on the side of the box but it doesn't provide any useful info that the city doesn't already provide (Crown Castle Solutions is the franchisee). You can see my graphical interpretation of the city's dataset here.

    • Totally agree.  In my county and surrounding counties, TM did not place n-41 on every site.  When I look at the sites in question, I probably would have not placed it there either.  I can find just a few with n-71 only and in most of those cases if you live there and know the probable usage of the residents, you would not do a full upgrade on those sites.  One site in particular is set up to force feed n-71 through a long tunnel on the Turnpike.  No stopping allowed in the tunnel. No stores, movie theaters, bathrooms, so n41 would be a waste.    n25 is not really needed either, so it is not there.  The tunnel is going through & under a mountain with more black bears than people.  TM was smart.  Get good coverage in the tunnel but do not waste many many thousands of dollars with extra unused spectrum. I also see sites with only n71 & n25.  Again this makes sense to me.  Depending on what county we are talking about, they moved much of their b25 from LTE to nr.  Some counties have more n25 than a neighboring county, but luckily, it is plenty everywhere.   When you are in a very rural area, n41 can run up the bills and then be barely used.  I am NOT finding sites that should have had n41 but TM failed to provide it.  They may have to come back later in a few years and upgrade the site to n41.  However, we just may eventually see the last little piece on Band 25 leave LTE and move to n25. I am not sure if the satellite to phone service is using band 25 G block as LTE or nr. We also can possibly have at least some AWS move from LTE to nr at some point.  Yes, everybody wants n41. it is not justified in some cases.  When I travel, I desire some decent service along the entire route but it does not have to be 1 or 2 gig download.   If I can get 50/5 on a speedtest with data that will flow and not stutter, I am very happy. Yes, they will swap out the USC gear.  TM needs to match their existing network. The USCC equipment did the job for years, but it is time to retire it.
