Network Vision/LTE - Central and South Jersey Markets

I haven't confirmed this in person, but I see a small part of central Jersey live on Sensorly. I'm in central Jersey a few times a month, but never go that far down.

These have been validated by several member reports. They should be still live.

This area was a Sprint LTE FIT (Field Implementation Test) performed by Alcatel Lucent. Sprint and AlcaLu performed their early device and deployment testing here. The area deployed back in December/January. However, the signal was blocked for a long time and not usable by Sprint customers. Approximately some time in July they went live and were usable to Sprint LTE device holders.

I'm always torn about driving out there, just to use LTE. Although, I do remember driving in circles around Newark Airport to test out EVDO when it was first being deployed.

I was there an hour ago. I parked in the Wawa parking lot and tried to connect to LTE. I drove around the area, constantly checking to see if my phone (iPhone 5) would connect to an LTE tower. I parked at the corner of Maple St. and Jeri Ln. near the Wawa. That intersection is bathed in LTE according to Sensorly. I didn't connect.

I drove south on 18 until 9, and went south on that until the Lowes Hardware and then came back north, regularly checking to see if my phone connected to LTE. No such luck.

Is it an iPhone problem or did they turn the towers off again?

And before anyone starts the iPhone/Android war, I don't care. You buy your phone, I'll buy mine. They both have their problems. However, they're both very good systems. This is my first iOS device after about half a decade of Android. (Original Evo and Motorola Photon, if anyone cares.)

It's likely not your device. Since it is not a launched market, it wouldn't be unusual for them to block the service. The last time I saw new service appear on Sensorly was probably a month ago in this area.

I forgot to mention this earlier. While I didn't get connected to LTE, I still got to try out their new (I'm assuming) Network Vision 3G towers over there.

I got a respectable (at least when compared to Sprint's usual performance) speed of 2mbps down and 1mbps up according to speedtest.net's app. Other places I tried (East Brunswick Rt 18) had me at less than 0.5mbps down and up (if I was lucky. The average is probably closer to 0.2).

Do you have any idea why they chose Central Jersey for a Round 1 NV/LTE location?

Thanks for your help and for the site!

The sites in the area were good spacing and other factors for Alcatel/Lucent to put their 4G LTE FIT in this area.

Hey guys! Didn't have a chance to post this before the storm and it slipped my mind after (a tree fell on my house), but now that I'm at a public WiFi, I thought I'd update you to my LTE speed test in this area!

I went in the late afternoon (around 4pm) to a location that Sensorly said was dark purple (near the intersection of County Rd 615 and Winding Wood Drive) and amazingly, my phone connected to LTE.

I immediately whipped out speedtest.net's app and starting testing.

After about a dozen tests, I got about 5mbps down (somewhat consistently) and anywhere from .5 to 11 mbps up.

Argh. Why aren't they updating this market quicker?! I spent the holidays in Atlanta and now non-LTE networks seem so slow. Alca/Lu, get your act together!

Robert, I know you still have this listed as a First Round market in the running thread, but is this still actually a first round market? When I look at Sensorly maps of the first round markets, this is the only one that doesn't have much work going on. I think many of the second round markets are actually ahead of this.

Or do you have some private information which says that they're just building it and they're going to turn on the entire region overnight soon?

Thanks.

So far, the biggest hindrances to Network Vision have been supply constraints and permits for building. The first one is over, but building permits still seem to be a snag in Sprint's deployment in some markets.

Bordentown and most of winding wood is bathed in LTE :)! This is exciting, I hope it keeps expanding. I've been using sensorly to map it as well

Bordentown Township? Is it still like that, cus nothing on sensorly has been reported for that area. If it is live, I wanna take a drive over there to experience it again!!!!

I've noticed that large sections of the region where I used to get signal, even just mere weeks ago, I am unable to get signal or data. In some places, the phone defaults to "No Service" as if I were in the middle of the ocean. Other areas of the region, it refuses to pick up data and I cannot send iMessages or go on the Internet.

Is this one of the early stages of NV buildout?

Zip codes of general areas. If you guys want specifics, I can do that in a bit of time.

08816 - East Brunswick

08901 - New Brunswick

08854 - Piscataway

So I've been searching and finding no information I was wondering if anyone knew anything... I live near Atlantic City and spend time their for both work and social as I'm in my early 20s. It is very annoying to be inside a casino on the boardwalk and have no usable signal (it drops or will not connect). Keep in mind this is during off season. I also spend time in the Mount Laurel area where Sprints speeds verify (doesn't seem to be related to peak hours as it is fast one moment then crawls another) Any idea of when these areas will see 4G or at least some data and voice corrections for the current signals. network.sprint.com indicates a lot has happened but I've seen no change or it has gotten worse. Feel free to post anything south jersey relate here also...

Season or off season does not greatly matter. Casinos want you gambling, not talking on or messing around with your phone. So, casino interiors are frequently, even intentionally dead spots -- unless the casinos and carriers install DAS.

I get what your saying however it is quite annoying that while others with different service can still access their data. It's looks pretty bad when we can't receive or send a report while others can standing right next to us. Also is a concert or large event is going on it's even less of a chance like when the Air show is in AC. good luck even getting a call to go through

A little bit. Between nothing and up to 20%. It will vary tower by tower depending on how each is deployed. The biggest gains will be when Sprint adds 800MHz service. Unfortunate, the iPhone 4/4S does not support Sprint 800MHz service. The iPhone 5 supports voice on 800.

    • Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.
    • 5G in the U.S. – Additional Mid-band Spectrum Driving Performance Gains T-Mobile holds on to it's lead in 5G Speed
    • Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.
    • Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.
    • Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
