Network Vision/LTE - Northern & Southern Connecticut Markets (includes all cities)

Some good news!

North Stamford and Stamford CT are getting a Network Vision tower very soon. It is being built and worked right now.

[Our regular 3G tower has gone completely Kaput here, it was NEVER properly fixed after Storm Sandy which took it down, apparently just a temporary fix. I had 5 bars before Sandy and only 2 after (of course I JUST got a new phone and blamed the phone). When it went completely out 2 weeks ago, I called and bitched, they opened a ticket, It was fully fixed for ONE WHOLE WEEK. And guess what 5 bars!! So I told customer service obviously it was never fully repaired after Sandy and it was NOT my phone not receiving the signal and I was not paying for 5 months of 1/5 the signal i should have had. After not backing down, I recieved a $75 credit to my account. Sprint REALLY needed to get a team out there again at some point during the 5 months and properly repair the tower. That was a big FAIL]

The service (3G) was down again completely (still is) as of Monday this week, about a week after the "fixed" it. I called again, got another ticket opened and they already had tickets opened due to others reports. This time the tech explained to me what they were doing and gave me the scheduled restoration times which is tonight at 11pm. Then she said, that does not include the Vision Network tower, that has a date further out. I didn't care when that date was so I didn't ask, I just wanted my signal back.

So I can absolutely say that they are workng right now on a tower that will serve the North Stamford area and probably others near it that serve other parts of Stamford.

I think they may be working on Vision sites up through Norwalk because another tech kept mentioning a ticket on a tower that served Stamford through Norwalk (there is no such 3G tower, I don't know if there is such a thing as a super Vision tower, but maybe it was one ticket for a series of towers). I will have to find out what the anticipated completion date is the next time I call Business Technical support.

I have no idea if these Vision sites will be deployed as 3G or 4GLTE.

That's great and all but doesn't this belong in the Southern CT thread?

  • 2 weeks later...

So, for the sake of spurring discussion, anyone want to make a guess on when the first Northern CT LTE site will go up, and even more brazen, pick which one?

I am going to go with June 15 we start to see some, and my prediction is some sites near the casino, but not at the casino. That being said, I have no idea why Sprint calls southeast CT the Northern CT market, but meh, so it goes. I would love to see some LTE by July 1 in and around the Hartford area, most hopefully, north of it :D

OK, I'll say the week before Memorial Day, and I'll guess it's in the Hartford metro area.

I work at Bradley in my primary job, and to date, havent seen or heard anything going on at the tower on top of the hotel. Trust me, I am watching like a hawk. There are 2, presumably GMO sites near BDL that are marked 3G complete, one is on top of the mountain next to Bradley. I actually wonder if that tower will get LTE, because getting backhaul up the mountain side might not be economical, though, that tower could easily cover half of Hartford County if they wanted it too, nothing is higher within a 15 mile radius.

Not sure if this means anything but after 5 months of owning my Note 2 and Evo LTE this is the first time I see 4G data usage on my account from any of the two LTE decides. It's only 1kb but if it's showing on my Evo LTE's usage I'm assuming a tower must had been switched on for at least a quick min to pull that 1kb lol :)

Okay past week i have noticed LTE live in newtown/sandyhook area! I mapped with sensorly how ever long that takes to show and also naugatuck is live also!!!! Avrage down load is 15-18 mbps!!! And up load is 5-8. I'm more than happy with these speeds! I can load an hd you tube video without buffering.

If anyone sees work in progress in North central ct can you shoot me a PM? I want to get some pictures of them working to try and build some emergency response scenarios for fire/ems training. So far, I haven't caught action in Windsor Locks, East Windsor or Enfield. But I have to imagine it's close, I saw a lot of stuff on the state database.

Sensorly isn't working I mapped it twice and its a no show! But its sure nice to see the 4g symbol on my s4

Sensorly is undergoing upgrades. The data is stored and will be displayed when the servers begin processing again. Please see the Sensorly thread for me details.

Had a member report to me that the sites in Torrington that came online the other day are purring data nicely. Glad to see other areas in the state starting to go LTE beyond Meriden and New Haven.

Good to know. I go by the tower on Moody Rd in Enfield frequently, and also the towers along I-91. If I spot anything I'll post it here. I can't wait for things to get better, my wife keeps nagging me about switching to Verizon as her data speeds are very slow (so are mine). I guess a few towers in Hartford near where I work have been upgraded, but I'm not seeing more than about 600-700kbps download/upload speeds.

In looking at the siting database, I only see the tower in East Windsor and the one in Enfield at exit 46 so far slated for LTE. I guess its a start.

There are 4 towers in East Windsor, only 3 are on the sitting database, those 3 have the slate for the upgrade.

East Windsor 15 Chamberlain Rd 41-53-52.33 41.897869 72-33-7.28 -72.552022 Sprint Crop Production Services WT 104.00 122.80 138 replace 6 CDMA antennas with 3 dual-band antennas 4G/LTE upgrade 04/05/13

East Windsor 50 (160) Plantation Road 41-52-32.3 41.8756389 72-33-53.1 -72.56475 Sprint Dean Rasmussen wt 126.00 135.00 replace 6 CDMA antennas with 3 dual-band antennas 4G/LTE upgrade 02/07/13

East Windsor 236 South Main St 41-52-37.8 41.877167 72-36-38.8 -72.610778 Sprint Balch Bridge Street Corp. ssl 120.00 188.00 56 replace 6 CDMA antennas with 3 dual-band antennas 4G/LTE upgrade 04/16/13

Now the fourth, at 96 Prospect Hill Rd is not on the sitting database, at all. It simply isnt there. This tower has Sprint, Verizon and ATT on it, its the big water tower you can see from the highway. There is no way this tower wouldnt be getting the upgrade that I could envision. Why it isnt on the database at all, anyones guess. I dont think every single site out there is on this state database. Actually, I know they arent, because the one on top of the Sheraton Hotel at Bradley Airport isnt listed.

I typically drive around East Windsor looking once a week intentionally, then of course I live within eye sight of the 96 Prospect Hill Road Tower, and havent seen anything indicating start yet.

they turned 4g of in newtown! It was on for a week why did they do that?

Because they needed to for some reason. This is not uncommon in unlaunched markets.

For the record, upgraded speeds for 3G in Meriden have been wildly inconsistent on the West end. Some mornings I Can stream ESPN. The rest of the time I'm lucky to get 0.09mbps down....

There is no way to stay connected to one site. Your devices can move around from site to site. You likely either sometimes get a site that hasn't been upgraded, of doesn't have upgraded backhaul yet. It will get better.

    • Excuse my rookie comments here, but after enabling *#73#, it seems that the rainbow sim V2? requires n70 (I turned it off along with n71 - was hoping to track n66) to be available else it switches to T-Mobile.  So this confirms my suspicion that you need to be close to a site to get on Dish.  Have no idea why they don't just use plmn. To test, I put it into a s21 ultra, rebooted twice, came up on T-Mobile (no n70 on s21).  Tried to manually register on 313340, but it did not connect (tried twice). I am on factory unlocked firmware but used a s22 hack to get *#73# working.  Tried what you were suggesting with a T-Mobile sim partially installed, but that was very unstable with Dish ( I think they had figured that one out).  [edit: and now I see Boost sent me a successful device swap notice which says I can now begin to use my new device.  Sigh.  Will try again later and wait for this message - too impatient.]
    • Hopefully this indicates T-Mobile hasn't completely abandoned mmwave and/or small cells? But then again this is the loop, so take that as you will. Hopefully now that most macro activity is done (besides rural colo/builds), they will start working on small cells.
    • This has been approved.. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/fcc-approves-t-mobiles-deal-to-purchase-mint-mobile/
    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
