I know this is off topic, but I couldn't find a good forum to post this under. So I'm posting this under the most active forum to get maximum exposure.

 

I'll be switching over to Sprint this week. I want to know of any discounts that Sprint has other than military or employee discounts. Do they have senior citizen or credit union discounts?

They may offer AARP member discounts. They do offer Credit Union member discounts. I am unsure how they verify the discounts (with mine they sent an email to my work email address with a special link that I clicked to add the discount to my account). Credit unions don't distribute email addresses to members nor does AARP. Maybe you mail/fax in a copy of your membership card or Credit Union statement?

I used my AOL Instant Messenger (AIM.com) email account to get a 25% discount on service, which is cheaper than the Everything Plus. I pay $62.49 for the 450 minute plan, and that includes the Premium data. When it asks for Employer name when signing up for that discount, use AOL Corp.

So anyone can sign up for aim and use the email account to say they work for aol and get 25% off? That beats my wife's southern company/Alabama power discount by a long shot.

Yep. Easy as pie. I love the discount, however, it only works on minute plans, not the totally unlimited plan that is $100/mo.

My wife get a 20% discount for working for a state university. I get a 12% discount for being a firefighter. Went with her discount since its more.

I'm already receiving a discount on mine, because of my wife working for Southern Company (You would think that a company that generates frigging electricity would get more than a 5% discount, especially when it's sometimes considered a government entity), but it won't let me modify my current discount without calling into Sprint...and I don't want to do that.

Says my discount is confirmed throught June 11, 2013 so no action is required on my account at this time when I tried to use my AIM.com address.

AOL.com doesn't work, as seen above, but AIM.com DOES work, and allows you to verify.

 

I'm sure shocked that my AIM account was still there, I haven't logged into it since 2008, so I was stunned that it let me even log-in

Maybe you should call them up and get the current discount removed so you can save an extra 20% on your service. A 5% discount is terrible!

      Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.

      Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.

      Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.
