HTC EVO lte connection issues

Good luck. Hope your experience goes better than mine. Really had to beg and plead to get a replacement. Waiting on it now. I had to show the guy screenshots/real photos/videos I took of my EVO and my gf S3 while she was sitting on LTE without issue and mine connects for less than 10 seconds.

Excellent idea on emailing me those photos and video :)

Lol, 2k4mach, what are you a drug dealer (come on, everyone was thinking it)? How do you afford every phone model? Do you have a bunch of family members in your house on all phones?

This is my method...lots of lines, I keep all the upgrades for myself. I even have family members who will give me their upgrades. My brother is giving me his so I can get the Note 2 later this week. I will have every Sprint LTE device except the Victory and iPhone 5. And I will probably pick those up on EBay when the prices drop.

Hey Robert didn't you have a source that was telling you about the Evo radio issues when it was going thru testing? Is there any new info?

Could it be that Jim Bob Duggar is also a wireless phone enthusiast? His fecundity could allow him an upgrade for every forthcoming high end handset on all four major carriers.

:P

My source in Product Development disappeared a long time ago. When the whole Inside Sprint Now thing exploded back in June after all their device info leaks, I think Sprint clamped down and scared everybody in the division. It was always the tightest division in Sprint to begin with.

Inside Sprint Now really upset the apple cart with many of our sources.

Robert let's be honest now. I don't consider being arrested for a choke porn infested computer at Sprint, "disappearing", do you? That's OK as everyone who just read this is Googling "Choke Porn" right now, LMAO!

It's too bad that the ISN guy or gal disappeared. I really enjoyed him and the info he gave. Was really keeping me sane during the EVO embargo. He was so damn arrogant though. I warned him to be cool. Wonder if he still works there or if they found him fired him and made him sign a NDA to keep his mouth shut

FWIW, and FYI ... I went into Sprint the other day to return my Evo (mainly based on info gleaned from this thread!)

IN THE STORE, there were 2 GS3's, which had a 4G signal. My Evo had no 4G. And there were 2 Evos in the store, ONE of which had 4G. The signal was weak -- LA is not 'on' yet -- but there you go.

Were you within the 14 day trial period? Did they give you back money? What happened? Edited by Fifth313ment

A corporate store should only charge restock fees when you exchange and not on returns.

Really? They told me the exact opposite; restock on return, NOT on exchange.

They were probably upset about the return and wanted to be spiteful or maybe it was an honest mistake.

I think it would depend on the nature of the exchange. If I bought an evo and was having all sorts of legitimate issues then they probably won't charge me a restocking fee if I wanted to switch to another phone, on the other hand if I bought an evo and decided to exchange is because all my other friends have galaxy s3's then they will probably charge me a restocking fee.

Opefully it is just in need of a software update....

Just saw on the news that GS3 is getting JB from Sprint, and they also address an LTE connectivity issue.....

It would be nice if we get updates to EVO 4G LTE also!!.

Yea it seems the S3 and the Evo have both been getting LTE tweaks with every release. The S3 has had several more releases than the Evo tho. I gotta say it does look like Samsung got their act together with this S3. Kudos to them!

And now I'm hoping that updates are coming soon for our phone!!!

Has anyone tried any of the other settings in the 4636 menu? Did switching to LTE + CDMA improve the scan frequency when entering a 4g area?

We won't be getting the Jelly Bean update for quite sometime, probably till thanksgiving or longer. I can't believe this as next time my phone will be a Samsung. They really got their act together on the SGS3. As for HTC they first have to release Jelly Bean on the HOX international and unlocked line which they haven't done and have no plans as of yet. They said October but time has come and go without any new news. Once the HOX lines gets JellyBean we can expect a month or two (or nine) wait for Sprint to run their tests on it but they seem to be moving fast with the GS3 and all. I'm just a bit mad as I stuck with HTC and I'm being punished for it. Even if Jelly Bean comes out tomorrow on the HOX line we won't see it for at minimum a month which is annoying. I want to sell my EVO LTE as this plus the LTE issues are crazy.

I am officially jumping ship to the Galaxy S3. I talked to a technician at my local store about my connectivity issues and the fact that my wife's GS3 is using 4mb of LTE for every 1mb of 3g while I was just the opposite.

He was able to get me into an GS3 right away as opposed to going through 2 or 3 different EVOs just confirm what we already new. I think it helped that he was apparently frustrated with the same issue on his own EVO.

I really like the EVO, but with the LTE issues and the GS3 getting JB already... it seamed like a no brainer.

Hopefully HTC can get it together as I want nothing less than an Android market dominated by Samsung, but I can't keep sitting here waiting for it to happen.

How long did you have your EVO LTE?

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
