Network Vision/LTE - Lower Central Valley Market (Fresno, Bakersfield, Visalia)

Of course they haven't updated it. There's no reason for them to.

At this point, not even extra T-1's are worth being listed on the network.sprint.com maps. I just wish that things would start progressing there soon. :td:

Oedipus, is your profile pic a cat with beaver-like teeth and eyes?

Some activity not the kind I expected. Any idea what they are putting up?

A microwave of some sort. Not sure who it's for though. I guess we will know for sure in the near future.

It's not a cat, but I forget what it is. It's some weird European woodland creature.

They are constantly working on a cell tower at the intersection of Fresno and "P" as I can see them from my office window.  Not sure what they are doing, but we still haven't gotten any better 3G.  I am just glad that I am able to get Wimax where I sit.

I was in Mendota today, how the heck do they get LTE while the big city gets nothing?

They only have one tower

Yeah, I'm impressed that the signal reaches as far as downtown. It probably fades out pretty quickly once you start getting some buildings in the way.

What floor are you on the you get wimax?

I never got wimax downtown at street level.

The only time we've gotten wimax was at courthouse park downtown. Worked well there but that's it. Surrounding vicinity... not so much (my wife has an EVO). Works well in LA and parts of the bar area though.

Well, despite how bad the network is in Fresno, I was still able to use Apple Maps to get someone directions. And there were times that I wondered if I'd get any data, but in the end it was better than I expected. PS, I was at the fairgrounds all day.

WiMAX in Visalia was always hit or miss for me. I hope they add some new towers when they start doing their broader band 41 deployment.

I am on the 4th floor of the State building on the East side facing Fresno Street.  The connection is either 1 or 2 bars but always connected.  Where would this tower be?

More specifically Blackstone and I think Mckinley.

That tower always gave me garbage range though. Like half mile on a good day with a GS2.

Thats why its so surprising you have it downtown, although sensorly shows other people got it to.

"was able to use data" is not a ringing endorsement...

I must admit that the 3g at the fairgrounds is really good, I was totally able to use the phone last year when we went to the fair, both indoors and out and it was very crowded! Close to 2.0 mbs.

Yeah, it's not that fast this year. However, if anyone from the Fresno areas wants to meet and hangout tomorrow at the fairgrounds, I will be back over there. Have an LCV S4GRU get together.

    • Dish network down since 3:31am Signalcheck Pro reports the Dish Network, at least the site at Scioto-Darby Rd Near I-270  in Columbus Ohio, was last operational at 3:31am. I normally pickup signal from two other Dish sites as well.  Reported via downdetector.com as Boost Infinite but one is such a lonely number. Tried to manually reconnect to Dish, but network is not appearing. Hopefully scheduled maintenance.
    • Probably a lot of Midwest towers. Slight bias since Nebraska is a weird market, but there are tons of USCC sites that T-Mobile isn't yet co-located on. Think a similar situation in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri. But some other markets, like yours, probably don't have that issue!
    • Sticky Customers - YES, and leave them flip to the T-Mobile PLMN when needed and they will be even more likely to Stick.
    • It seems to me that if the goal is to improve rural, the US Cellular buy-out would get them only part of the way there, considering there are plenty of rural areas that US Cellular does not serve.  But I also have a hard time reading it the way I think that article is, that the cost of this deal comes straight out of the $9 billion.  I mean, they're getting spectrum for their existing operations in US Cellular markets, including places that I wouldn't call rural.  (Roanoke, VA is the 9th largest city in the state, for example.)  It seems like some of it should be allocated to rural expansion, but certainly not the whole purchase price. There's also something to be said for getting the customer base of potentially sticky customers who have been used to US Cellular being the only game in town for potentially decades. - Trip
