ill be damned i called got a person the first try... and in 7 minutes had one ordered its one thing i actually need in this townhouse which is built like a kiln... all brick and rebar 1961 design lol i will be happy if it fixes my dropped calls i have here at home...upstairs its not an issue downstairs,,, its a nightmare lol

I know people who have tried to take them to a workplace, but unless they work in IT, it usually doesn't work out for them. Getting it set up on a corporate network, with firewalls, etc. can be tough.

I called in yesterday and they are sending me the newer model Airave in exchange for my current Airave. Yippeeee!

One more experiment I'll try. At my cabin Sprint signal is NEARLY non-existent. On a window, my phone picks up Zero bars (the absolute limit of connection) which can't even send texts but it is something. So I bought an amplifier and it works great for what I want but the range is limited (10 ft away = 1 bar, right next to it = full bars). So, I might use a homeplug system to use Sprint 3G to make more Sprint 3G.

This could cause a problem with the phone connecting to the airrave instead of the tower / overamplification but I'm sure with some clever ingenuity I could make it work.

what about using one in an area that is not technically covered by Sprint but is roaming???? I have a family member that is at school where Sprint is not available on campus but is a mile away... Could he setup a FEMO in his dorm room???

You will need to see what the college rules are about "excessive data use" policy (which when I was in college, wasn't what I call excessive, lol) We had a monthly limit, after which we got slowed down to dial-up speeds. Also we were not allowed routers and needed to register our computer.

Now things might have changed in the couple years since I graduated, and the college might not be as strict as Penn State, but I am sure there are rules of some sort.

I just ordered one because where I just moved to has pretty low coverage; I usually get a bar inside the house in the upstairs, but downstairs it can barely get a roaming signal and drop calls like it was my business. (Full bricked house with a poured wall basement in the middle of nowhere... standard cell service here)

To help anyone else that might be thinking of getting an Airave. I'll tell you how it went for me: The person helping me had no problem getting me set up with one, but I was surprised to hear that it is set up as an extra line on your account even though its free of charge, you get taxed on it (couple bucks at the most), and if it is not plugged in for 30 days you have to return it or pay a $140 non return fee.

Now i am willing to pay the extra tax (hell, I was thinking of purchasing one and paying a small fee before I heard here on S4GRU that I could get it for free) but I hope those details help anyone else make a decision. I'll write back at the end of the week when it arrives and let ya'll know how it performs.

I finally got an AIrave ordered. I couldn't get one because there was a tower issue in my area and they weren't able to determine the signal strength issue until that was fixed. Took 27 days btw for them to fix a tower... seems like a long time to me.

Anyway, I remember reading someplace that if you are using an Airave, the minutes don't count against your quota of minutes. I have unlimited talk, but if this is the case I could most likely go to a lower minute plan since I work at home and do a lot of calls from there.

Does anyone know if this is the case? I didn't want to ask the rep while he was signing me up for the Airave.

Also, he said that since they have had a rush on them, it may take two or three weeks to get mine. Robert, seems like you post has had quite an effect on the Airave availability , which is great. I wish I would have known about this several years ago.

There is so much conflicting information out there on whether you voice minutes on an Airave count against your usage on your plan or not. You will need to contact Sprint for a definitive answer. Sorry for the delay in my response, I was on vacation.

I would threaten to leave. Retentions will give you an Airave for free.
