  1. He means installing other roms and such. Verizon does not allow that whereas T-Mobile and Sprint allow it. Some people (me included) value that. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  2. Worse case is this is a capacity related issue, it will be resolved with time. None of the carriers are immune to it unfortunately. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  3. For the first time I noticed this same issue out in the southwest side of Palatine. There was a fairly consistent RSRP in the mid 90s but a sub 5db SNR. This was on an HTC ONE. EVDO speeds were pretty good. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  4. I do not remember seeing that before today. Maybe something new? Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  5. Wait, DeKalb has existing LTE sites? The S series phones have followed the HTC series upgrades which have recently been late spring early summer. What about a tri-band S4?
  6. Yup! I guess the FCC has a Notice of Proposed Rule Making changing some of the emission requirements for CATV digital modes, as well as including schools or other entities that have a CATV system installed. The fines add up quickly for a violation.
  7. "supposed to" If you strip the cable you can have that 600mhz transmitter we all want!
  8. I never understood why people do that on the cb band. A advanced ham license is stupid easy and makes it legal to transmit 1.5kw on neighboring bands. That person likely didn't have a clue and used a desktop antenna with the radio and amp. They were probably impressed when everyone's alarm systems and garage doors were triggered every time he would key up. They probably complained about the quality of Cox cable modems since he was on their tenth replacement. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  9. This type of interference happens with frightening regularly. CATV is a big offender in the aircraft /vhf/uhf bands. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  10. I live in the Chicago area and haven't dropped a call in months. Are they located near one of the very few legacy sites left or something? What phones do they have? Once the phone is on a band it will stick with that band until it loses the signal, especially if a call is in progress.
  11. I thought they had to hold the power button in for 10 seconds.
  12. I have seen times when limited backhaul can cause the SNR to fall with all the retransmits that take place. That was on Evdo. You are far more experienced with the rf side than I am so what would cause snr to fall in the PCS band during the day only?
  13. Ok. I understood the problem happening only on lte and fairly constant throughout the day/night. What you are describing is a classic capacity issue. Since it is happening on both evdo and lte it is probably a backhaul issue but it is hard to tell from the phone's airlink alone.
  14. I was very surprised when I got my HTC ONE that the signal bar reports evdo or lte signal level. It only reports 1x when you are on a call. I think I am the only person on earth that prefers it only report 1x unless it could display signal bars for every technology. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks for correcting me AJ. Schooled by the master! Does T-Mobile have the same roaming restrictions in those areas they have on AT&T's footprint? Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  16. That does sound like a textbook case of a capacity issue. Is your evdo speed acceptable? Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  17. It really depends on where you live and work. All the carriers can vary significantly over a few blocks, let alone market to market. Where I live in the Chicago area, USCC had great coverage, they are no longer an option unfortunately. Just west of here it is a great option though. The problem with the "in my area x is better" is the argument could go on forever. I really wish there were more gsm carriers then T-Mobile and AT&T. Att is the only company that T-Mobile has to be a roaming partner. That pretty much allows att to ask for whatever money they want for a roaming agreement. Its too bad that T-Mobile phones can't roam on cdma. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  18. I'm not sure I buy the USCC interference. If they were to interfere Sprint would have to be using USCC band for LTE, which I haven't seen any signs of. If someone posts an LTE engineering screen we can see if Sprint is using a different band for LTE. In particular I would like to see what upload and download channel it is using. 19. I agree with you. Something is really wrong. I'm not an expert by any means but I don't see how such a high rsrp can have such a low SNR and be a capacity issue. He is saying it is constant whereas capacity issues would get better late at night. If I didn't have kids and a wife that wouldn't go nuts on the trip I would love a fox hunt and find out exactly what is going on.
  20. There really isn't a normal reading. The higher the SNR the better off you usually are. Low SNR readings are fairly normal with a weak signal (rsrp of - 115 or so). Stronger signals (rsrp of -80) should have a very high SNR (20db or higher). His snr and rsrp tell me he is seeing a very strong LTE signal but the phones radio is seeing it as almost all noise. That is very unusual.
  21. A 1x RSSI of 56? Are you standing right in front of the antenna? Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
  22. Is it always roughly the same place you drop the calls?
  23. Interesting. Haven't seen it myself on nearby towers. Is it on SMR and PCS? Maybe they are getting ready to finally fire up LTE on those three towers in Dekalb! Lol Sent from my HTCONE
  24. I have heard dropped call complaints from multiple people on every carrier in the Chicago area. All the carriers are doing major upgrades right now. Sent from my HTCONE
