If so, then why do you follow up a national report with this excuse... Mine is fine. I've never had it crash. Also apps without root access cannot control the LTE band you're on. Only app capable of this is MSG with root access. So you're reaching pretty far for an excuse, which is what an apologist would do. Why not accept the report for what it is? And back to point #1. Outside of stakeholders who work for Sprint or own stock, no one should be using the word "We" when talking about Sprint. I get that criticisms of Sprint come off as trollish, but at the end of the day I think everyone here is rooting for a successful independent Sprint. Unfortunately, many don't see that as a possibility with the way Marcelo has operated the company compared to the competition. The writing is on the wall and it looks like they've put up a strategic white flag...Now it's Trump administration's move. Something will change. What exactly changes remains to be seen. My gut says Marcelo/Son will make a move for T-Mobile. Whether that's a good thing or not for consumers is an entirely different subject.

You can apologize for Sprint all you want, but even you know they still have a lot of work to do. And Sprint lowering their spending is not good, especially in a wireless industry that moves so fast and is aggressive at touting peak speeds. Just look at Open Signal's latest results. Sprint should definitely be spending more in order to catch up. Their overall native footprint is also falling behind as T-Mobile grows. You can argue that growing the network into new markets is a waste of money, but this is an industry based on perception and T-Mobile is winning it big.

Seems like a weird location to put a small cell in considering it is fairly close to a tower with 8t8r on Clay and Hollister. It is possible that it's either a T-Mobile or Verizon small cell. I know T-Mobile set up a few in downtown. Here are the Sprint macro towers near the area (Clearwire not included)

Yes, but have you seen it in action? I'm just not buying the story of HPUE devices enabling EBS/BRS to reach the same areas PCS LTE. Call me a skeptic, but I'm going to approach HPUE with very little fanfare. We've seen similar claims on this board in the past about MIMO, beam forming, etc. Physics gets in the way and stuff never works as expected in real world scenarios. Based on history, I would hold off on your excitement until we see what we actually get with HPUE.

600 MHz auction results posted and transition schedule
greenbastard replied to ericdabbs's topic in General Topics
So this auction wasn't a failure like some had hoped? -
Few and far between. Houston is a Clearwire B41 market. I've only seen a few Clearwire panels replaced with 8t8r panels, but that's because those older Clear panels weren't broadcasting B41 (either incompatible or older equipment). 3CA is not available in enough places to declare Houston a 3CA market and will probably be one of the last markets to have 3CA widely deployed. 2CA still provides 50+ Mbps download around Houston, it is just the coverage that lacks.

These results were inside the stadium which has a DAS for each network. I stated from the beginning these results are smoke and mirrors for all carriers. It's very hard to do 256 QAM in the wild with all that interference. My point in showing the picture is that in real life situations, 2.5 GHz won't go everywhere midband spectrum goes. All the other carriers have the advantage of having wide band LTE in either the AWS or PCS band while Sprint doesn't. I find it quite alarming that even with a DAS, the phone had to drop down to B25 (because I doubt that speeds dramatically fells down in that one instance just for Sprint).

I wonder how well Sprint will be doing during the Super Bowl. I know it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things as the Superbowl is just a one and done event. But considering that Sprint is only using a total 60 MHz for LTE in Houston, they could be in trouble. For comparison, T-Mobile has a total of 70 MHz dedicated for LTE while At&t has a whopping 90 MHz. Here is the current configuration carriers (minus Verizon) have set up in town. Keep in mind the current setup for Sprint around town is mostly poor performing Clear towers; Sprint: B26 5x5, B25 5x5, B41 Clearwire 2+20 MHz T-Mobile: B12 5x5, B2 10x10, B4 20x20 At&t: B17 10x10, B5 5x5, B2 20x20, B4 10x10

2 year subsidy phone upgrades early warning info
greenbastard replied to dkyeager's topic in General Topics
I don't believe it will. -
Definitely related to wireless. Without some of these laws, at&t could throttle or completely block off services owned by their competitors (Sling TV, PS Vue, Tidal, etc) without many repercussions. I'm usually a "smaller government" type of guy, but these laws definitely benefited the consumer without forcing IPs to make many changes. If anything, the law got ahead of IPs before they went bananas.

I'll venture out that way once the circus leaves town. I'm avoiding anything South of downtown until Monday. To be honest, I'm not confident in Sprint doing well if those small cells are too spread out. For Sprint, Houston is a pcs spectrum constrained market so small cells probably need to be within line of sight of every event for them to work. Here is what Sprint has to work with in Houston. Not very comforting PCS selection tbh. No 2nd B25 carrier available yet.

Mum's the word. Can you hear that?

If you root, you can get all that info from Network Signal Guru and even turn off Band 25 and Band 26 so your phone can ride B41 indoors (albeit weak, but still faster than the sub 1 Mbps B25/26 offer). Unfortunately the app is a battery hog and heats up the phone quick, even when it sits in the background. I like to turn off bands and exit the app to enjoy slightly faster speeds. B41 at -120 RSRP is still faster than the -95 RSRP B25 gives me. I also turn off CDMA PCS and SMR so that when I'm on fringe areas, my phone can roam perfectly instead of holding on to a weak Sprint 1x.

Network Vision/LTE - Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands Market
greenbastard replied to Gab2012's topic in Markets
It won't be necessary. Just because Sprint roams on Verizon today doesn't mean it has to in the future. With VoLTE, there is nothing tying Sprint to Verizon anymire. Sprint should be able to shop around for cheaper rates with At&t, T-Mobile and other regional carriers with VoLTE
