    Rooting Evo 4g

Only if he's rocking an OG Evo - I don't think Revolutionary works with the Evo LTE
  2. Not a fan of the S3 honestly....prefer LCD to amoled and have never liked TWIZ...hoping the M7 does the trick for me and then my 10yo gets my 3D (she's on my old BB Curve since her handed down Samsung Rant just died).
  3. actually 99 at BB with the $50 gift card reward makes a GS3 more palatable...though the victory would be nice for free and similar to her current phone (less the slider but plus LTE for future)...argh!
  4. thanks guys - real world data is always better than just guessing. I looked at the Photon Q but no removeable battery is a deal breaker for her ... half me says hell no to getting her a GS3 since her phone would then kick my phone's @ss (Evo 3D waiting for .... )
  5. So my 14yo dropped her Epic 4G (slider) and spidered the screen. Sprint won't fix it and no insurance. My options are buy a used/refurb one off eBay for $75-100 or, because she's got an upgrade, get her a new phone. I'd prefer not to spend anything if possible and see BB has both the Nexus and the GS2 for free with upgrade. I'm looking for feedback on: Battery - she's a hog so I like the extended battery available for the Nexus Radios - the Epic 4G sux so any improvement is good I know the Nexus has LTE which is a plus though it's not lit near me yet (soon) and has a much higher res screen while the GS2 has WIMAX (very very limited in my area) and a better camera (so I've heard). 4G is not really much of a selling point as she streams mostly at home on WIFI anyway. I welcome all opinions...are the radios in the Nexus so bad it's worth the Sprint bloat, lower res screen of the GS2 paired with no chance of 4G for another couple years?
  6. So I'm at the local Sprint store reviving my old Crackberry Curve to replace my 10yo's Samsung Rant that has decided to not hold a charge and I flippantly ask one of the guys about LTE in South OC... He says he used to be in the group that designed and deployed the towers before the $$ crunch that led to Sprint outsourcing all the tower builds/upgrades to Ericsson and the others currently working NV. We talked for a while about why LA was going nuts (and his buddy pulling 32/20 in Lakewood) with quick upgrades and he brought up a great point about South OC...The Irvine Company. For those unfamiliar, the Irvine Company basically owns most of South OC and has for generations. The problem is they have some severely antiquated restrictions like max building heights (2 story) that require significant effort and expense to get past. He said the costs involved are at least double if not triple to add new sites here and that we can't expect a huge change just by upgrading the existing towers since many are in lousy, limited height locations already.. The second point he made was our insane "not in my backyard" HOA restrictions. South OC is full of "planned communities" with ridiculously restrictive bylaws making it nearly impossible to build in them. This isn't rural farmland where you can put a tower in the middle of a cornfield, nearly every acre of viable land is covered with housing and retail. He said it was so difficult to get past the HOAs regardless of how the construction would go (make it look like a tree or put the gear underground or whatever, offering free phones to neighbors "affected" by the construction) that until the Softbank deal, they basically said "screw it." He was hopefull that the cash influx from Softbank would open some eyes and they'd bite the bullet here to take a hit initially but keep more people from defecting (a good half of people I know that were on Sprint have moved to VZW or TMO in the last 6 months). I'm not sure how things like this affect other areas of the country - but if NV seems to be skipping you or rolling out slower than other areas, look into it.
  7. geez ok - you convinced me! probably still gonna get it and then hand it down to a family member if something better comes along.
  8. exactly - is there really a noticeable difference in how many millisecs it takes to load? a 1080p quad core in a nexus sized frame gives ridiculous ppi and top of the line speed IMO. And if the cam specs are top end what's not to love?
  9. i'm not that much of a chip spec whore really - hell I'm still relatively happy with my 3D. My thing is I just don't want a 5" phone. Yeah, it's only a 1/4" bigger, but that's just my preference.
  10. If the M7 is indeed what the leaks show, then I think HTC needs a complete overhaul of their design department (but I'll still probably blow an upgrade on it). All anybody talked about was how cool the One X was styled....and yet they release the DNA and potentially the M7 which look just like the 4GLTE (sans kickstand) and just about every other slab phone they've ever released. Can't they be like other tech companies and steal away a designer from Samsung already???? seriously is everybody trying to out Apple Apple with all the phones looking almost exactly the same?
  11. btw - my comment was not meant to be political in nature at all - never mentioned getting anything free or with subsidies or whatever. If you want to pay the cost to have fiber to your door, you should be able to. If i wanted to be political, i would have noted the prevalent cable/phone monopolies and the politicians' unwillingness to crush them. I can't get get VZ FIOS because ATT owns the last mile in my area, but I'm too far from the CO to get UVERSE ... I actually switched phone svc to my Cox cable as the only alternative to the ever-increasing fees and BS service ATT was providing.
  12. It's true. I used to work for Qwest (now CenturyLink) and our CEO's vision went even beyond that to wanting fiber to every door. Everyone (competitors) scoffed at the idea, but I can absolutely see the need for it. We are an ever connecting society and the poor bastards in rural KS or SD or wherever that can't get anything but satellite have just as much right to access technology as the fat cats in Beverly Hills. For what I would guess is a majority still (at least geographically), people are wanting to access a 50 lane information superhighway but have a bikelane sized off ramp to get there.
  13. this would actually interest me in a comparison with the pending HTC M7. I generally prefer HTC screens and I'm a fan of Sense (and not of TW) but this would at least give an alternative to consider. I like that it seems that not everyone is only going to 5.0 and larger for manufacturing which I prefer, just not into the phablet size phones.
  14. found this spec searching google Full Specs: Samsung SPH-L500: Android OS: 4.1.2 (JZO54K) Chipset: Front Camera: 1.9MP (1280x720) Back Camera: 8MP (3264x2448) Screen Size: 4.65 (1280x720) SD Card: Yes Supports 64GB Internal Memory: 8GB RAM: 1GB Chipset: MSM8930AA hearing it being called the Premier
  15. why the hell would HTC put such a low res screen on this? I actually thought it looked appealing as an alternative to the mega handsets now dominating the market, hoping it was like a souped up Rezound...but it's not even that good. Seems like a slightly souped up version of the OG EVO with that crappy 800x400 res!
  16. The DNA is what the EVO LTE should have been. But I'm not a fan of the 5" phone. Hopefully Sprint will get an M7 variant .
  17. ditto this...I'd be on Verizon paying through the nose but on a nice network and wouldn't have suffered through this painful process that I'm hoping ends with significant improvments in my local area so I can stay with Sprint.
  18. if this is a DNA in a 4.7" I'm on the bandwagon. That's really the limit for me. Hell, I like the Rezound with 720p resolution in a 4.3" screen. 5" screen is just a little too uncomfortable for my tastes.
  19. any chance anybody knows if sprint matches these online deals? I need to upgrade a line and switch the upgraded phone to a different line.
  20. any downside to using bb as opposed to corp sprint store? anyone have success getting a corp sprint store to match an amazon or bb price?
  21. and a wider OC buildout...and launch...and hopefully a viable connection where I need it.
  22. While the senseless death of anyone is horrible - to slaughter defenseless children and then take the chickenshit exit by killing yourself is about the worst thing anyone could possibly do. I'll respect the wishes of the board since this isn't the proper forum, but as the father of two I can barely stand to think about such tragedy and affect it will have on the lives of more than just the victims families. There is no spot hellish enough for a coward that would kill a child.
  23. very interested to know if the fix is in... was about to snag the 2for1 GS3 deal but i really prefer HTC.
  24. I'm right with you...I want so bad to leave Sprint for VZW for the better performance since I'm in an area that's a complete dead zone for practically any signal where I need it most....but then I look at the plan I'd need to buy and see a need for 4 @ $40 for my family's phones and $100 for 10GB of shared data which my 14yo and I will blow through easily most months. That's nearly $100 more than I'm paying now for UNLIMITED (ok it's limited quality right now but whatever) with a pool of shared voice minutes that we never come close to using. Can't beat that with a stick. I'm staying and waiting...and hoping a variation of the Rezound (4.3" with 720p screen) hits us at some point since I don't really want a behemoth like the SGS3, EVOLTE or larger...
