  1. Who's going to be the first carrier to claim the most "streets" or "houses" covered? ATT claims covers more cities and towns than VZ. VZ claims to cover the most markets...Sprint hasn't fallen prey really other than to make claims about service in markets that aren't really complete. Maybe NewSprint will make aclaim eventually that they cover "more driveways" than anyone else!
  2. damn this had me excited maybe to see another Evo variant (or One series add on)...or a new NEXUS! but this...meh...no thanks
  3. Robert - can you link to the test results? I was waiting to see your testing but not sure where to find it!
  4. I will never go back to AT&T. I was with them before Sprint. Their service in my area is significantly worse. Their customer service is abysmal. I'm holding on as long as I can. I'm hoping we get some news about the OC soon. I'd love to be able to see an improvement in service and go buy everybody in my family a new LTE phone.
  5. Hah! I didn't get my first cell phone until I was a member of the working class (the 99%ers)...it was the old Mitsubishi bag phone style ... the one with the corded handset! Schools here are pretty strict about phones, my kids only have them because they have 2 working parents, after school activities and a frequently rotating carpool situation - I want to be able to be in contact should something abnormal happen after school where I might need to pick them up for whatever reason.
  6. All I know is that the network needs to improve...and fast. It's pretty disheartening to realize that you have zero way to communicate with your high school freshman child because there is basically zero Sprint signal on campus. I'm not willing to settle anymore. Unless the NV improvements are in place by the time my last of four contracts expires, I will be leaving Sprint. I have been as loyal as possible, but now it seems my Airrave needs a reset at least 2x a week and with no service at one school and barely a signal at the other, I'm not comfortable with zero communication ability with my kids. BTW - my neighbors just recently joined the herd of sheep on ATT with iPhone 4s and do nothing but complain about how crappy the service is at their house. Verizon unfortunately is the only carrier in my local area with a decent signal everywhere.
  7. just proof once again of the hypocrisy of apple.
  8. as a solid HTC guy, it's things like this that give me headaches and push me towards the SGS3 ... this, plus the HTC response to the multitasking issue and it just seems like a bit of a money-grab to push out a device before it's really ready. The OneX doesn't seem to have the same number of reported problems so WTH Sprint? BTW - slightly off topic but last two weeks I've had a big increase in dropped calls, no service inside buildings (a local Target for example) and even ROAMING while I'm in a parking lot next to a known WIMAX area.
  9. my suggestion is to post this info and the question about the signal drop to the 4GLTE forums and see if a dev can dive into this and apply to a custom ROM. My first go to guy for the EVO4GLTE would be mikeyxda as his MeanROM (my 3D daily driver) really dives down into his ROMs and puts out a helluva product. If anybody can unravel it, it's him.
  10. Are you kidding? By the time this chipset and associated components are ready, Apple will own Samsung & HTC thanks to all the lawsuits and will be demanding their OWN network and private frequency bandwidth for the iphone. Tongue firmly planted in cheek, but then again there is this: http://patft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=7,966,578.PN.&OS=PN/7,966,578&RS=PN/7,966,578 Apple has apparently convinced the patent office that they created the touchscreen for mobile devices. Ok, maybe off topic a bit but had to do it.
  11. This is hilarious since i literally just popped over from an AC forum post where the user was screaming "I hate this phone and I hate Sprint" because she "got no 4G no more" in Chicago....(RANT) And then I come the sanctity of sanity here and see this amazingly helpful write-up on possible "why's" and "what to do's"... You the man. S4GRU 4 LIFE!
  12. I think the frustration felt is warranted in some cases and not in others. If you were "burned" by the WIMAX experiment (as many of us were) and thus paid that premium data fee (I'm not one who still insists it's a "4G" fee) without any consistent access to a premium network to enjoy such premium data AND then jumped out and pre-ordered or bought a new LTE phone at launch then you have NO BUSINESS complaining about a damn thing because YOU KNEW that the network wasn't ready yet (even Sprints advertising for the LTE phones said the network wasn't ready yet). Most people don't even know sites like this exist. If you know about this site, and read the content, YOU KNOW THE NETWORK WASN'T/ISN'T COMPLETE and should know better than to complain here. Now if you are complaining on AC or XDA and don't follow S4GRU (shame on you!) then yes, hearing "LTE is LIVE in San Antonio/Houston/Atlanta" or wherever and then flipping your GS3 or EVOLTE to find ..... no 4G ... I'd be screaming too because I didn't know any better. If you bought a Ferrari with the promise of access to the new autobahn and then found that new autobahn was only in limited areas and then they just said, we're no longer building this autobahn anymore you'd be upset. If you then bought the McLaren SLR with the promise that you would EVENTUALLY be able to drive on the even better new autobahn, then they said "whoo hooo the new autobahn is open in Houston" only for you to find that the autobahn turned into a school zone in 70% of Houston...you'd be upset. Now if you read S4GRU and were upset about any of this then you need to learn how to read more better (yes, I said more better) since Robert and the guys here (AJ, Pyro, etc) kick freaking @ss with Sprint knowledge. It's one reason I stick to the development forums at AC and XDA since general is just fraught with whiners that think it's their g-d given RIGHT to have 100mbps downloads on their phone in rural KY or Montana or one of those Dakotas right now, and if they don't then they are leaving Sprint for good this time.
  13. kudos to all here for an intelligent discourse and discussion. I'm so tired of all the trolling that is on other sites where something like this would immediately denigrate into name-calling and the typical "No YOU suck" rants. As much as they would like to, no carrier is the be all end all for everyone. I'm living with less than stellar Sprint network (for now fingers crossed) issues because I don't want to pay the exorbitant amounts (literally 50% more) VZ wants for my same plan with a data cap that my daughter and I would blow through in less than 2 weeks, Because I don't want to have the spottier coverage and outdated network of TMO and because after my years with Cingular/ATT and their own lousy coverage issues and abyssmal customer service I'll never go back to them. I read all over the forums where users say "I've been with Sprint for 10 years and now I'm leaving"...likely in part due to articles akin to this one...and I say "why now?" The opportunities were there to leave when VZ still had unlimited data plans but you didn't? You're waiting until Sprint's finally starting to roll out a massive upgrade, really making it the NOW Network, to jump ship? Great - good riddance - enjoy your data caps, throttling and massive bills!
  14. Nerd Alert!! seriously though - this is another reason I love this site....the attention to detail is ridiculous. Instead of "my signal sucks" and everybody either piling on or replying "mine is great"....we get a look inside WHY people might think that (and how in this case they're wrong).
  15. i love the trolls on the engadget article denigrating 15Mbps downloads...
  16. most real world users that aren't streaming HD content or d/ling huge files (or torrents) won't notice a difference. No carrier in their right mind would ever put a service level "guarantee" in place for speeds. When I went DSL after dial up, I was promised T1 speeds (subject to proximity to telco central office) and never once got even close to that, topping out usually around 512 which at the time was EPIC. Then cable came around and they were "up to 3Mbps" download...and I consistently got over 2Mbps so I was happy. Now my cable is the 2nd lowest tier at "up to 22Mbps"...versus the 31Mbps and 50Mbps of the higher tiers...really, like I'm going to notice that my song download from Amazon is taking 3 seconds vs 4 seconds??? I see some of these speedtest numbers here and on AC and XDA with LTE pushing 10Mbps and think "damn I'd be happy with half that"... and the 20Mbps numbers (or higher) thinking "if i got 20% of that speed during peak usage times I'd be in love with Sprint again."
  17. They cared enough to finally create a way to purposely brick your phone and flash older firmware to downgrade the bootloader. It was a bit of a PITA but well worth it. I went from 1.5 / S-on / HTC unlocked and having to flash an anthrax test kernel with every ROM to be able to boot....to a 20 minute brick/downgrade process that left me with 1.4 / S-off and able to flash anything and everything. i'm guessing this is happening early enough in the game where people are still getting these phones that if the old exploits don't work, the devs will find new ones.
  18. This further cements my decision to wait on an LTE upgrade device until the rollout in the OC is lit up. My rooted 3D will do the trick for a few more months and by then the EVO4GLTE and GSIII will be old news (I hope) as the fresh batch of rumored phones will be in full swing. Hell I may wait until xmas now...
