  1. ah the good ole days of the AOL/Netscape wars...
  2. thanks - I seem to have some dead zones at home and my kids are always complaining about drops so will put this to good use before installing more powerline adapters.
  3. which one if you don't mind my asking? There are a ton with the name "WiFi Analyzer" in Play Store!
  4. I've been waiting for a positive update from someone who flashed the old .17 radio..will give it a shot. Either something is borked in the radio update or Sprint did something stealthy in the background (my guess is the former).
  5. Was in SD all weekend for water polo and the performance of this phone (documented by others on XDA and in Sprint Community) was atrocious. Sat - at the pool next to a 4G tower in 92124 and could not get a usable data signal. Tried toggling airplane mode to no avail, profile, PRL updates and reboot would just give me 3G for a few moments before dropping data completely...while my daughter's S5 (and other S3s) were humming along just fine. Sun - a fringy area of 92117 but still showing coverage on Sensorly and same exact results as above. Hotel - area of 92121 at the SD Tech Center near the Qualcomm offices - again, about a block from a 4G tower with zero usable signal.
  6. Not necessarily a fair comparison since the LTE you are likely experiencing now was there all the time but on bands the M7 wasn't capable of connecting to.
  7. I'm not seeing any decent RF performance honestly. Sitting at dinner with my daughter last night she had full bars of 3G on her S5 while my M9 was 1X most of the meal and finally latched onto 3G signal right before we left and that was barely useable. This was at a location that according to Sensorly should have been covered by LTE and a parking lot away from an upgraded 3G tower (OG03XC117) at the mall next door. I am "roaming" on this phone significantly more than my M7 and it's getting frustrating. I'm hoping there's a radio update coming in the very very very near future.
  8. badboyz ftw for sure - I've been on their ROMs for years. how do you like the Spigen? which screen protector. would like to find one that covers the entire glass (zagg doesn't)
  9. man this phone must not be popular with 4 days of no posts...anybody experiencing the horrid LTE flipping/dropping that's all over XDA and Sprint Community? I'm really frustrated with the radio in this thing as there are a few areas where I used to get at least 3G signal on my M7 are dropping me to 1x or no data at all and areas where LTE is supposed to be it's having issues sticking.
  10. I was thinking about holding off a bit, but then I dropped my M7 face down on the boat deck on a whale watching cruise with my daughter on Saturday. Walked into BB Sunday afternoon and they told me I had about 8 minutes left on my M7 geek squad coverage but the deductible was wither $100 or $150...I figured the extra $50 or $100 would be worth it to upgrade...then find out I can lease it for $1 a month, no taxes even so I pulled the trigger. Ordering a Spigen case shortly and possibly a glass protector. I immediately did the OTA, then unlocked, rooted and installed Captain Throwback's TWRP, Sunshined it for S-OFF, installed the Bad Boyz ROM and slapped in a 64GB SD. I'm following hamdir's thread on XDA for the camera settings but haven't had an opportunity to take any photos. I'll have to wait a few cycles for battery since I got it at 70% and ran it into the ground initially and it will take a while for the ROM to settle. Pretty sure the wakelock issue isn't solved yet either (My M7 was getting killed on 5.0.2) so hopefully we'll be seeing 5.1 soon since it's out for Nexus. Not seeing (feeling?) the thermal issues, but IIRC they did some thermal management in the update that supposedly impacts performance, however I'm not seeing it. It's super fast, super smooth to this point. I also notice the screen doesn't pick up fingerprints like my M7 did. Still getting used to the button placement, after 2 years I instinctively reach for the top of the phone for power.
  11. Yep...the one thing that kept me from jumping to an M8 was the crap ultrapixel camera. Pics on my M7 are awful in low light with any kind of high intensity light in background (ie at a concert) and the M8 was no different from what I read. still praying for good rf...
  12. praying for decent RF.

    HTC ONE user thread

my understanding is that sprint disabled it on the M7 even though they left the app. I run custom rom so it's not in there.

Lollipop makes me want to keep my M7 for a while longer for sure.
  15. Long press the notification on the lockscreen - then tap the little "i" icon on the right of it and it will bring up a menu to block or prioritize the notification for specific apps! Especially handy when the stupid notification pops up every time you connect via USB (Mind you this is all on my M7 but I'm assuming it's a Lollipop thing not device specific)

bummed that sprint is not provisioning wifi calling (according to what I'm reading on XDA) on the M7

Woot! I'm digging 5.0.2 on my Nexus 7 (2013). might have me hang on to the M7 for a little while longer (prob til the bugs worked out of a new M9)
  18. The iPhone 6 is the first one since I was on the OG Evo that made me even consider Apple. But then I realized my M7 was still better (for me). Guys were all jacked up about features they'll likely never use (like slo mo video) more than a few times as a novelty. I haven't found an app that I need that I couldn't get (YMMV) and I love my front speakers. This is a no-win debate. I hate the rigidity and closed nature of ios. Others hate that every android looks different (Samsung TW vs HTC Sense vs LG's whatever vs Moto's whatever). Opinions are like anuses - everyone has one, but it's the people that act like one that get both sides in a huff. What works for some doesn't for others. Pointless to try and sway either camp.
  19. It's the baddest part of town And if you go down there you better just beware of a man named Leroy Brown
  20. Marcelo posted this on LinkedIn yesterday: Act Like an Entrepreneur to Accelerate in 2015 Jan 5, 2015 13,282Views 404Likes They said it would take months. I told my team to launch in four days. Being agile and moving quickly have been keys to success throughout my career. This strategy worked when I was an entrepreneur creating startups and growing businesses. I’m relying on the same approach now as the leader of a company with 30,000 employees. Waiting until something is perfect before launching or delaying a decision until you have 100 percent of the information are strategies for failure. By the time you act, the opportunity could be gone. Or more nimble competitors could move in and squeeze you out. That’s why even as the new CEO at Sprint, I still think and act like an entrepreneur. Since beginning last year as the company’s top executive, I’ve been encouraging our employees to adopt a more entrepreneurial approach to their work. I’d encourage anybody else to do the same. Whether you are leading a company, managing a team or simply recharging your career in 2015, we all have a lot to gain by acting like entrepreneurs. Here are some examples of what I mean. My company introduced leasing to the U.S. wireless industry last October. The Sprint team’s initial reaction was that we needed months to test it in the market and then make sure all of our systems were set up just right. The wireless industry is hyper-competitive, and we didn’t have the time. I gave the team four days and said we’d figure it out as we went. We could offer consumers value by providing a new way for them to get the latest smartphones. We didn’t need to spend a lot of time and money researching a decision with an obvious benefit. It’s too soon to declare this initiative a definitive success, but the early signs are encouraging. The fear of failure can be so great within large organizations that many people seem to look for reasons not to do something rather than embracing a great opportunity. That is why I believe we must take calculated risks. When you have at least 70 percent of what you need, go ahead and launch. Something else that I expect from members of my team is that they know our business. It is critically important to do your homework ahead of time so that you are familiar with your company, your customers, your competitors and your industry. That’s the way to be ready when an opportunity emerges. When those opportunities do arise, have the confidence to act. Set a goal and pursue it with everything you have. Don’t wait around for encouragement or support from others that may or may not come. I’ve started businesses that grew to become regional leaders or even the top operations in their industry. I credit these principles for helping to drive the successes I’ve enjoyed and I’ve seen them work well for others I’ve observed. The entrepreneurs and people in business I admire are those who have big ideas, are passionate about what they do and take bold actions to achieve their dreams. Everything we try won’t always result in a win. It’s only truly a failure, though, if we fail to learn from the experience and then improve. That’s what an entrepreneur would do. That’s what I do. And that’s what I challenge you to do, too.
  21. root it and install Captain Throwback GPE ROM from XDA!
  22. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/analysis-of-new-htc-flagship-the-htc-hima/ losing ultrapixel gimmick would be nice too...my daughter's old GS3 takes better concert pics than my M7 (and imagine it would be same with the M8 since the sensors are similar).
  23. Hoping the latest rumor that has it coming to CES is true.
  24. Damn it. Looks like I gotta wait. If this is legit about the size I'd be happy. I hate ultrapixel (makes taking photos with any kind of spotlighting next to impossible). may be great for overall low light performance, but trying to take a decent photo at a concert with spotlights or bright stage lighting is a nightmare as the brightness overloads the sensors.
