  1. I think it would have to be just Raleigh at this point and not the whole Raleigh market. North of Wake Forest there's nothing yet. Out in RTP this week I got 4G one morning on a small stretch of Hwy 70 near I-85. But it was gone that afternoon and the rest of the week. And nothing when I went through Durham on the way home one of those nights. North Raleigh was definitely much better covered last week when I was out that way. I didn't pick it up in Wake Forest, but that was a couple weeks ago so some towers must be close to completion. I'm just happy to see more progress.
  2. I just loaded the Durham map in a different browser (Firefox, when I normally use Chrome) for the first time. I see my new points from this morning at the city level, and not at any of the lower zoom levels yet. Edit: Actually, it's at the city level, then two levels that they are not there. Once you get past those two middle levels it's back again when you're closer into to the street level. So, it must build the different levels at different times, just depends on what gets done when I guess.
  3. Yeah, different zoom levels can take time. I loaded some 4G points this morning and at the city level they should up an hour or so later. Zoom in one level and still not there yet. I'll keep an eye and see how long it takes for them to show.
  4. Mapped some 4G on Sensorly this morning on the way into RTP on Hwy 70 just after the I-85 split to around Miam Blvd. Not sure which tower or if it's a new one not already showing up complete. The data hasn't shown up yet on the maps.
  5. Drove by the tower on I-540 and Six Forks last night and no LTE. Seems it hasn't been broadcasting since it was first completed as far as I can tell. Also, noticed the network was EVDO-RevA and not eHRPD. Ping times were in the 190ms range, don't recall exact download and upload speeds but it was far south of 1Mbps.
  6. Don't doubt it's complete (check sponsor maps). It's just not broadcasting LTE. I drove by as well the other day and didn't get an LTE signal.
  7. Thanks Mike. I downloaded 2.09 this morning and tried things out again with no crashes. Got the message about those screens not supported on my device instead. No crashes so far, looking forward to testing it out when I get near some potentially live 4G towers this week. - Michael
  8. Crashes on my S3 when I go to Advanced.. Battery Info, and also Advanced.. Radio Info. I reported one of the crashes from my phone just in case it gives you any useful info. What are the "Field Trial" and "EPST" options? Field Trial says it's not available on my device and EPST is greyed out. Can't wait to test out when I get a chance to visit where some of the completed RDU towers are.
  9. Just got the Pro version and will give it a shot. Not much LTE in the Raleigh/Durham area yet, but that's why this app will be nice to have so I can tell when I hit a 4G connection. Great job, will let you know if I find any issues.
  10. Our first real computer at home was a Radio Shack TRS80 Model III. I remember my dad buying a 30MB hard driver for around $3,000 so he could write a program to keep track of the prescriptions at his drug store. We also had an Atari 400 with that AWFUL keyboard that my dad and I ended up building a real keyboard for, and then later an Atari 800.
  11. I remember being 15 and not being able to transact online. Because there WAS NO ONLINE. Yes, I'm old.
  12. There are separate threads for each market, including Orange County which you can find here: http://s4gru.com/ind...__fromsearch__1 EDIT: And if you donate, you can become a Sponsor and see maps for each market and have access to a lot more info.
  13. It's alive! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
  14. I agree. I'm very happy with the battery life of my S3. Especially after the Hero. Now, if I let my kids play games on it all afternoon then it does drain quite a bit faster. With new battery technologies that might become less of a problem. I heard about this "3D" battery on NPR the other day: http://prietobattery.com/tech.htm Edit: And the original story I heard on Marketplace: http://www.marketplace.org/topics/sustainability/scientific-method-search-better-battery
  15. And expensive. Talked to a couple guys working on a nearby tower a week or so ago and he mentioned the 800MHz RRUs cost about $20,000 each. They also said the contractors get about $25k per site for the work, but I'd imagine that varies some by geography.
  16. I downloaded the app and turned it on for a bit while I was in Raleigh. No 4G popped up, and it seems like the one tower where it was active before has been turned off for now. Also, I experienced a crash with the app. I set the phone down on the console while I was driving and picked it up at a light. I didn't notice any screen rotation, but when I picked up the phone the app crashed. Looking forward to using this...I've been wanting an app or some way to get notified when I switched to 4G. Thanks for the app!!!
  17. For the most part, when new towers get deployed Sprint has been leaving LTE on and not blocking like they did in the original launch markets. This just means that particular tower now has NV equipment active, not that they've officially launched the market.
  18. I'm in Central NC and have the same issue. I've got an old Sprint 3G data card grandfathered in on the unlimited plan so I have unlimited 3g right now. But, until NV hits, the speeds have been getting progressively worse and there is no Wi-Max here either. For the time being, I've got an AT&T "4G" (not LTE, but much faster than EVDO) hotspot I use for work and the rest of the family uses the Sprint card through a wireless router. Once the enhanced 3G speeds with NV start to hit here hopefully I won't need AT&T. Another option I've considered (when it becomes available) is Verizon's HomeFusion Broadband internet plan. It offers 30GB of data for $120/mo. If you can get a discount through work (like I can) then it would be somewhat cheaper. It's not unlimited but it offers much more data than any of the other data only plans. The only problem is that it is ONLY available on Verizon's 4G LTE network which is close but hasn't quite reached my house yet. The coverage maps show it about a mile away so hopefully they'll get to the closest tower to me soon. Taking a quick look at Verizon's coverage maps near the 27973 zip code, you might be in luck. It looks pretty well blanketed with 4G in that area except for a couple of holes. My opinion would be, if that's available, it would be a better choice than satellite. http://www.verizonwireless.com/homefusionbroadband/
  19. If this is the tower near I-540 and Six Forks, I drove by there today too. Had to flip airplane mode to get it to show up. Then turned on Sensorly and let it map until I lost 4G. Looks like you or someone had already done it, because when I looked at the maps it was a wider area than I drove with it on. I ran a speedtest as well with Sensorly but don't remember the results. Is there a way to see speed test history? Can't seem to find it in the app. Time to reinstall the speedtest.net app.
  20. I know of a few T-Mo sites around here which are EDGE only that are shared (or very close by other towers) with Verizon, AT&T and Sprint, and where I know there is fiber. Not sure why they wouldn't upgrade there. I might have thought more about T-Mo for home when I was looking if they would have had more than just 2G service.
  21. Flew into the Fort Lauderdale Airport last night and my S3 had it's first 4Gasm. Ran a speed test on the plane and pulled 7.73 down and a little over 9 up. Mapped on sensorly as I was leaving the airport and still had 4G for a little while, but haven't uploaded the results yet. I see it's pretty well mapped around there anyway. I was just happy to get some LTE on my new phone for the first time!!!
  22. Robert, I know you've said in the past that it would be by market. However, the other day while driving home I had EVDO-RevA on my GS3 at a stoplight in Raleigh. Then driving north about 12 miles later (while I was at another stoplight of course ) I checked and was on eHRPD. So, unless it flipped in the 10-15 minutes while I was driving which is entirely possible, could it be that parts of a market are on eHRPD and others not? I haven't looked, but I'm wondering if those locations (not sure of the exact towers, just approximate areas) are going to different MSC's today.
  23. Yeah, I have some too at home but don't have one in my new phone yet. I'm working out of town this week and didn't have time or really want to buy a new one when I've got some. And didn't want to wait until I got back to do the update. When I booted to the software update menu the only choices were either the SD card or the cache or fota (?) folders where you could install the update from. Couldn't figure out how to copy the zip to either of those other places, or if it would even work. I guess the update can wait for now.
