  1. In addition to changing some of the location and wifi settings, today I set network mode to 3G only and have noticed a huge increase in battery life. I'm sitting at 23 hours on battery with light use, mostly texting and voice calls, with 78% battery remaining. It feels like I fell in love with the phone all over again after having such horrid battery problems. It's just unfortunate you need to make so many changes to get the stand by time up, I feel like the average user might just give up on the nexus and say it sucks.
  2. I would try posting over on xda nexus 5 help section if you haven't already. You'll probably take some flak for flashing the way you did but there's bound to be some one that already bricked their phone doing the same thing you did and might have a solution already.
  3. Unless I was told wrong, the money would go toward the oldest easy pay balance.
  4. Turn the phone off, hold down volume up and then plug in the usb cable from your computer into the phone while still holding volume up. You should be greeted with download mode and then a firmware update screen if it works.
  5. I have no experience using those, I either flash the entire factory image using the batch file or individually using fastboot. Hopefully some one else can chime in. I would try using the LG flash tool I linked from xda and see if the phone will respond by going into download mode and recovering that way.
  6. How did you flash 4.4.3, what exactly did you do? If you aren't able to get to the boot loader, you might be able to try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-images-lg-t2713833.
  7. That's exactly what I had asked, if T-Mobiles new band was the superset of 17. But anyway, who is to say they don't skip including b12 this go around if its so much harder to make work. I would be willing to bet the next nexus handset supports Sprints network.
  8. Isn't T-Mobiles new band just a superset of b17, which the nexus 5 already supports? If so I don't really see much if any increased cost.
  9. It could be something similar to what's happening in Syracuse. 800 is deployed all over, I used to connect to it all the time. Now my phone can't find it at all. Some one mentioned it might be on the testing sid so the phone never knows to scan for it without a custom prl.
  10. Disabling android device manager's remotely lock this device, remote lock and erase and changing location setting to device only has gotten rid of the wake locks. I also greenified maps as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/battery-life-help-troubleshoot-battery-t2785128. I may try re enabling google now and ok google now from any screen since I actually like those features but it's nice to know I don't have a faulty battery.
  11. Down to 84% over night without touching the phone. I just disabled google now, location history, WiFi scanning, and changed WiFi to only stay on during sleep while plugged in. Hopefully that does something. As bad as it is, stand by time did go up. I was draining 30-40% in that same time before. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  12. The screen issue might be my fault. There is a very small scratch in the top left corner. The coating wore off around the scratch about the size of a penny. I don't really care about the scratch, but the coating wearing off is very annoying. Smudges show very easily and the screen doesn't feel smooth in that area. I just finished re flashing 4.4.4. I allowed it to turn on google now, as well as google location service. I only installed twrp, supersu and busybox pro along with the 20 or so G app's that update themselves. Going to charge it up and let it sit tonight and see how it fares. I used to only drop 1-3% overnight off charger when I first got the phone, hopefully it will be similar and I can go from there.
  13. I had thought about that, I didn't purchase it directly from Google though. I bought mine as a Sprint retail package (with the Sprint sim pre installed) from Best Buy outright. I have TEP from Sprint on the device but it doesn't seem like it would do much good without paying the replacement deductible. When I was in the store today they told me they don't/won't ever have any parts for the Nexus 5 (my screen has a portion of the oleophobic coating that rubbed off) and when I asked if they could order the screen they told me no. I thought about trying a different store, but all the local ones are all preferred retail stores by the same company so didn't think it would do much good.
  14. I flashed the factory image again and unchecked restore my account and data. Going to only install a few things like twrp, root and signal check pro and see how it goes to see if I can narrow the cause down. It's frustrating because I used to get decent battery life with excellent stand by time, and lately it has completely tanked.
  15. No, everything was wiped when I tried android L, and then going back to 4.4.4.
  16. I used to get that kind of usage, I've used greenify, app ops xposed, franco kernel etc for a while but the last few weeks battery life has been atrocious. Something is keeping the phone awake 25% or more of the time, but I can't figure out what it is.
  17. After re flashing the factory 4.4.4 image and disabling google now, and ok google from anywhere I am still having battery problems. 1 hour 9m screen on time, and a 28 minute phone call and I am down to 33% battery after only 10 hours. The phone has been sitting within a few feet of my router, and airave almos the entire time. Top items under battery are screen, voice calls, android os, android system, wifi, and then google services. Looking at wake locks, Google Dialer has the longest keep awake time at 25 minutes which I assume is from my phone call. Next is Google services with 24m keep awake time with 6000 wake locks, then phone with 16m keep awake time and 14500 wake locks, and android system with 6m keep awake time and 4000 wake locks. Does anyone have an idea how to curb some of these wake locks? At this point I'm ready to go back to using my EVO LTE, I can't deal with a phone that can barely make it half a day without even moderate use.
  18. It might be something in your area with traffic routing. In Syracuse, Sprint has better ping times than AT&T or Verizon. Usually 20-50 ms on Sprint vs 50-100 ms on the others.
  19. Thanks for the insight on how that actually works. I wish there was a corporate store around, but we lost the last one we had in Syracuse a few years ago. Maybe I should just buy it online now that the plan I wanted is showing available. I wanted to give a local store the sale, but I've been in there three times now asking for it.
  20. Maybe they have a problem with their service. I have anywhere from 1-5 Netflix streams running in HD at my house during peak times with no problem on FiOS.
  21. I went back to the store today, and they still don't have any inventory of these yet. The manager told me he thinks it's because they aren't a corporate store. He did offer to try and special order one for me, and find out if the 3GB plan is available for it. He offered to call me Monday to let me know. Edit: It looks like the 3GB plan is showing available online. If I have to, I'll order it but would rather give the sale to one of the local reps that have helped me out in the past.
  22. I was able to get MMS to send on Sprint, but not receive using hangouts by turning off merged conversations. Using a third party app (I tried chomp sms) I was able to get both send/receive to work with WiFi off.
  23. I changed it in hangouts and it didn't seem to do anything. After changing it in phone settings it worked. I've had my T-Mobile Sim in the phone while I was testing out L, the same APN menu doesn't appear under mobile networks with Sprint. I'm not sure how to make it work with Sprint.
  24. That's why I had it in quotes. You can also manually change APN settings and make it work, I just tested it between my nexus and g2. For whatever reason it needs to be off WiFi though.
  25. "MMS" will work if you use hangouts messaging rather than SMS. I think I figured out what was causing all the wake locks. I flashed Android L and was still having the problem. I disabled Google now and it went away.
