Network Vision/LTE - Boston Market (all of Massachusetts)

so psyched! in progress towers on the interactive maps for dorchester!! hopefully i can finally get some 4g love in my condo! also additional tower in the somerville area!

 

i wonder if these towers will be 4g or 3g??? hmm...

So just a quick question, I pick up a 4g signal all over West Springfield ,Agawam ,Westfield ,most of Holyoke and downtown Springfield as well as the hungry hill neighborhood and east springfield neighborhood. But my speeds are nowhere close to what I see being reported for other areas. I am barely getting 10Mb down and 2 up, averaging 1.5 down .9 up. Speed test says LTE but is this for real, my brother gets these speeds on VZ 3g.My 3g has improved greatly to the point of matching the supposed LTE. Is the best I can expect or is this still in the testing phase.

You likely have a weak signal. LTE speeds are highly dependent on signal strength.

I have yet to hit an area with the blazing speeds that others report. this area has not officially launched yet so I am hoping that it is still in the testing phase. would love to consistently pull 10 down and 3 up.

Once more sites come online, the downtilt will be adjusted. The combination of more sites and better downtilt will result in stronger signal and faster speeds.

 

Just my theory based on user experiences in more developed markets.

Ok so in the past 2 days I went from a pretty strong LTE signal in West Springfield to now just 3g. I have toggled airplane mode and nothing. The 3g is still pretty good but what happened to my LTE. Although it was nowhere as strong as Verizon it was still much faster than 3g. And why do I need to constantly have to toggle airplane mode when going from wifi to cellular to pick up LTE.

The buildout is still ongoing, it's possible that a tower went offline for maintenance, re-calibration, or is simply down. More towers will get upgraded in your area in the coming weeks and months, which will give you a stronger signal, and likely faster speeds. Toggling is only necessary when you have a weak signal. Once more towers come online, you shouldn't have to do that anymore.

Picked up a weak LTE signal while walking on Adams St. in Milton - at Hutchinson's field. 2 mpbs down 60k up... i assign this could be picking up a tower in Quincy..

Haha, that was my thought too. Although the map of the dartmouth / new bedford area is pretty spot on, so hopefully these new updates will be fairly close too. Sadly for me, i work and live in areas that are right on the very edge of LTE spots, so it doesnt always connect.

So, I was sort of surprised to see Sprint's marketing team "launch" Boston.

 

4G sites in the City of Boston = ~13

Total sprint sites in the City of Boston = ~94

 

"Launching" a market with 14% of your sites upgraded to 4G LTE does nothing but confuse customers about what service they should expect. The soft launch was fine, just let people use it as it gets better and better so people don't develop an expectation that this is actually a 4G market. The pace in Boston is pretty decent now. Wait 3 more months and do it right...

 

Frankly, you are better off launching the entire state of Massachusetts if your marketing team is going to go that route... but that's just my humble opinion.

Went to Boston last weekend, and the 4G coverage is really amazing! Just about everywhere I went. When I left Boston to go to New Hampshire I got 4G from time to time as well.

I would have to agree with the last post. In certain neighborhoods of Lowell there is a great 4g signal. You go 2 streets over and you have nothing. I really can't wait for the time when there is full 4g coverage in the entire Greater Lowell area and the Massachusetts 4g market in general.

 

I continue to believe that switching from 3g to 4g is terrible on my battery and if I got a consistent 4g signal my battery life would be better. Especially for those times when I am NOT able to pick up on a wifi signal.

 

Sprint's CDMA signal is proving to be unreliably slow lately in Lowell. 4G LTE however is quick.

Very true, the LTE deployment is like Wimax, you get it for a few steps, then it disappears. I can't wait for the widespread of LTE as well.

i live a good 30 Mins outside of Boston but am part of the Boston Market and I had it on that first day they launched. The Boston Market is pretty big. I think more city's outside of Boston but in the Boston Market are lit up.

 

 

 

Technically, the Boston market is all of Massachusetts... however sprint marketing launched Boston proper - not 30 minutes outside of Boston in the Boston suburbs (though they may have, they've launched a few markets outside of the City of Boston.

 

I think Sprint has done a fantastic job in Mass - I just take issue with the way Sprint's marketing team is handling the launches. For example, in downtown boston, there are about 3 live LTE sites out of over a dozen. I think marketing is just sending the wrong expectations. Sadly, I feel like they are doing it to tell investors, not help customers, which annoys me.

I am guessing a lot of that has to do with the number of people utilizing the network at the same time when there is an event with 17,500 people in the same building. If you try it when nobody is around, perhaps a weekday morning after the rush of commuters have left North Station -- how are your speeds then?
