Tmobile only bid AWS3 in very small  pockets around the country. TMOBILE and Verizon will need more spectrum, and this is why Dish will have these fighting and bidding for their assets. 

 

 

While  those carriers scramble for more spectrum  Sprint will be riding on densification and deploying extra Carriers on the 2.5ghz band. This is why they are rushing to the 5G hype, and using very high bands that won't penetrate paper bag.

The smallest of the four nationwide U.S. wireless carriers demonstrated an experimental 5G network system in a parking lot outside Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia Tuesday. It used tech partner Ericsson’s gear to beam signals from a transmitter on top of a van to a receiver on a golf cart loaded with data processors and power equipment 30 yards away. The speeds -- even through triple-paned tinted glass to simulate an office window -- reached 4 gigabits per second, more than 100 times faster than today’s fastest connections.

Sprint's prior 5G demo on June 3 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California was in partnership with Nokia and involved transmission of 4K video at 73 GHz .

You mean on Wideband CDMA like what the 3GPP evolution specified, or old TDMA based GSM voice? The former was very good at it. The other sucked and was a large reason why I dumped AT&T for Verizon long ago. The former didn't reach where I lived into 2013. Wasn't on 850 MHz until 2015 here. T-Mobile never bothered to put the former here, it was only AT&T.

 

Specific generations of the technology matter. As for VoLTE, it is a completely different beast with lots of different implementations. T-Mobile has a different VoLTE implementation than Verizon, for example. I might have to write an entire technical post on this and ON VoLTE standardization. It's going to be a while, though, before the dust settles in that regard.

My apologies, I should have been more precise. I was referring to conference calling . To my knowledge, gsm handles it much better.

Look at the GCI sector first third carrier I have seen outside samsung markets.

 

Hmm.. isn't ALU / Nokia GCI ending #1, #2, #3 just the first carrier? 

 

GCI 02549143 doesn't seem like it's anything out of the ordinary.

My Sprint 3-in-1 SIM is out for delivery on the UPS truck.  I should have it within the next 3-4 hours.  Then, I will make the UICC switch online, and that brand new nanoSIM running CSIM from last fall already will get retired.

 

I misread the date of delivery, not yesterday but today.

No bueno on new SIM online swap.  One or two steps time out and direct to call or chat.  Probably will be a few days before the online activation is running smoothly.

Your mileage may vary, but for the time being, chat or a call to customer care may be required to activate the new 3-in-1 SIM.  Automated new SIM activation from the "Manage this device" menu in my online account failed to complete both last night and this morning.  Additionally, with chat intervention, two power cycles may be needed to complete cellular activation followed by an automatic profile update.  The first power cycle acquires LTE signal, but only the second power cycle registers LTE data.  However, that last part may be a Nexus 5X quirk.  It often requires two power cycles following an inter operator SIM swap (e.g. Sprint to AT&T) of already active SIMs.

Nifty, my obligatory 10 paq o 3in1's showed up Thursday. I noticed the box on the porch and when I realized what it was had an excellent simplosions when I tore it open at the door.

 

Partner said mini Xmas morning type action, I was going for piñata without the swift beating. Anyhoo, like mod said up top activation is a chat box away. I had to do the same w a nanosim last week as well. Chat seems to be super effective at handling my issues lately. I even did the survey.

Whoa...I understood, like, fully half of this. And i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's doing far better than most. Like, huh? ; o )

When I realized what they were, opened the box and poured them and the excellent packing materials out like xmas day. It was fun, barely made it in the door. That 2 day shipper never saw it coming. I used chat to activate a couple and it functions as well as it should I suppose. My descriptimotron may be at fault; but this is how <86% of my posts go down.

In that Blog Post (Sprint is back!), he covered some important points, including this about Sprint's upload speeds:

 

 

The only category where we lagged was in upload speed, which brought down our overall scores. Our lower upload speed though is actually by design because we know our customers download much more data than they upload. Sprint’s network is specifically built to support this, making more efficient use of our spectrum with less capacity dedicated to uploads. Because our network uses TDD-LTE we have the capability to do this while the other carriers using FDD-LTE do not. According to PC Mag, if they’d only measured download speeds, we would have seen significantly better results, including winning San Francisco, where we poured on the speed with peaks of 122 Mbps in Huntington Park.

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and could potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.  — — — — — The old permit expired for this site without any work being done but a new permit was just approved a few days ago for a T-Mobile site at this address. Description mentions 3 antennas with 2 RRUs per sector. My guess is they're doing something similar to what they did at 360 Furman St in Brooklyn where they broadcast Band 2/66 and n25/41 from one antenna. It's a bit of a downgrade considering the site it's replacing was a full build with Ericsson 6449s. 
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
    • Same with factory unlocked
    • June security update is out (S22U TMO)
