Verizon adding RRU's to sites in Vegas

Verizon has now starting pulling permits to replace panels and deploy 1 RRU per each replaced panel on their sites in Las Vegas. It appears to me that Vegas is a beginning market for their AWS LTE deployment.

 

Has anyone heard any details about Verizon's test markets for AWS LTE?

I have heard that Verizon was moving to RRU's for AWS LTE.  But beyond specific markets of where to start, this is news to me.  Thanks for the heads up.

Details on permit state that Verizon applied for it on May 15, 2013, and it was approved on June 19, 2013, one month after application.

 

In addition, after posting this, I found a 2nd one for the same thing. I'll be interested to see how many have been applied for already. I might even make a map for reference.

The slowing of progress in Vegas, at least based upon my personal observations, makes me wonder if they're planning on making additional modifications here before launching such as Clearwire's TD-LTE.

I was noticing the same thing.  It's also happening in Phoenix.  It could be Clearwire, or it just may be really darn hot!  :lol:

Yeah it's a lil toasty around these parts. I did see someone a week or two ago on a man-lift working on a Sprint site that's marked on the completed map, so that made sense. I don't envy the folks that get up there and complete this necessary work in these weather conditions. I hope they're well compensated!

Most likely the darn heat, and then the fire isn't helping the air quality making breathing more difficult for some, so it could be a few workers have been taken down. Plus I am like 5 weeks behind on the Vegas permit map, and should be posting an update tonight. Hopefully soon things will start picking back up. So far I haven't found any new style permits to include TD-LTE, and there are plenty of older permits that Sprint already has that are pending for current Network Vision work, so they should finish them out and just apply for new permits to go back over what they have already done.

Yes, you deserve more cell towers in your area, but Vegas does too for some bizarre reason, lol.

Pahrump deserves more Sprint Cell sites than Vegas does, and even though it's classified as part of the Vegas market, I don't count it as such. So, your home market is more special than Vegas. lol

New York...nah...definitely Vegas first, baby..got to keep sin, gambling & drinking going strong..that requires excellent cellular communications to all your sin providers..New York just needs subways and lots of deoderant :lol:

You sound like the casino's: Gotta keep gambling and drinking going strong. If my small voice could have any impact, I would raise a massive standard against gambling and try with all my might to shut those money 'toilets' down. I have seen what they have done to people. It's horrible. Even my stepdad felt guilty working at a casino knowing that his job was being paid for by those people wasting their life savings in those machines. :td:

Yup, Josh,couldn't agree more..but LV AND Calif (read Indian Casinos) depend HEAVILY on this voluntary form of taxation for their very existence..lots of collateral damage along the way..but hey..being a  Sprint cellular junkie keeps me busy and out of their clutches...so bring on LTE fast!

Brothels don't keep Vegas afloat. It's those stupid casino's I hate so much, so closing them would bankrupt Nevada, that's the other reason I keep quiet.

Going back on topic, there have only been 2 approved permits for RRU's in the last month. I'm sure they have applied for many, many more.

I didn't really gamble when I lived in Nevada.  But I never hated the Casinos.  I knew it was the reason why I didn't pay any income tax.   :)

 

Here in New Mexico, I get fleeced by the state for income tax and the sales tax is way higher than what I paid in Nevada.  All that and we still have an Indian casino on every block.  I wouldn't mind being back home in Nevada, actually.

Gambling & prostitution go back thousands of years even before the time of the Roman Empire; gambling is legal just about everywhere if you include lotterys;   Wall Street has become a Fed inspired casino; so gambling has become pervasive in our economies and as I mentioned earlier there is loads of collateral damage associated with it; Nevada being dead last in educational scoring is just one metric that comes to mind...but hey, Robert, come on home..we'll make room for ya!  Maybe you could light a fire under our NV/LTE rollout for us (to subtely move back to topic)

Here is a good idea.  I hear that the S4GRU business needs a tax break.  Go buy a suite at the Wynn overlooking Las Vegas Blvd.

A very expensive Suite.  Give Premier Sponsors of S4GRU free usage of the suite.  Of course, you have first picks on the dates you want.  This would probably significantly increase your amount of Premier Sponsors and it is all a write-off for S4GRU.

It is all a business expense since you need to meet all your Premium Sponsors for consultations.

Verizon is smart to start jumping on the RRU bandwagon with AWS spectrum to deploy LTE.  Especially with LTE with the more fragile airlink than CDMA, any small signal losses can help.  I am sure Verizon will deploy RRUs for its LTE refarm of its PCS spectrum in 2015.  I am curious to see if the panels that Verizon deploys only have AWS spectrum or are the new panels going to support 700 and AWS bands.

I had like 8 trucks going down 75 here in Toledo Ohio and they were AlcuLucent. They put up a fat panel on all the tower so far . Are these fat panels for a w s?

I have found 8 permits for Verizon in the past month searching for Sprint permits and we have had Verizon LTE service for 2-3 years.  So, maybe they are starting here too.  The description doesn't mention any RRU's, just remove and replace antennas, but they did the same thing back in 2010 looking for other permits with the same address.

      Dish network down since 3:31am Signalcheck Pro reports the Dish Network, at least the site at Scioto-Darby Rd Near I-270  in Columbus Ohio, was last operational at 3:31am. I normally pickup signal from two other Dish sites as well.  Reported via downdetector.com as Boost Infinite but one is such a lonely number. Tried to manually reconnect to Dish, but network is not appearing. Hopefully scheduled maintenance.

      Probably a lot of Midwest towers. Slight bias since Nebraska is a weird market, but there are tons of USCC sites that T-Mobile isn't yet co-located on. Think a similar situation in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri. But some other markets, like yours, probably don't have that issue!

      It seems to me that if the goal is to improve rural, the US Cellular buy-out would get them only part of the way there, considering there are plenty of rural areas that US Cellular does not serve.  But I also have a hard time reading it the way I think that article is, that the cost of this deal comes straight out of the $9 billion.  I mean, they're getting spectrum for their existing operations in US Cellular markets, including places that I wouldn't call rural.  (Roanoke, VA is the 9th largest city in the state, for example.)  It seems like some of it should be allocated to rural expansion, but certainly not the whole purchase price. There's also something to be said for getting the customer base of potentially sticky customers who have been used to US Cellular being the only game in town for potentially decades. - Trip
