My cell tower also changed from NID 5 to 311 and BID 14003 to 20763 at about 2:00 a.m.

I Took this photo about a month ago at the downtown Atlanta tower.  There had been workers there a couple of days before.  We had voice quality issues for over a month prior to this photo and for a week or two after off and on.  The local AT&T repairman said there had been a crew here running fiber to the tower a couple of months before the photo was taken.  our 3g speeds have increased somewhat since then.

Hey John - I called Sprint everyday during the outage...at first they were telling me it was a "T1" issue so I figured they were adding some additional T1 capacity. Then they told me it was a "Software upgrade" issue. They didn't say as much, but I think it was the DO 1X Advanced software upgrade. The speeds have improved, but I think it is due to extra T1 capacity and software upgrade. The tower in Atlanta and Queen City both have new AT&T fiber run to the tower, but I do not believe the 3G is connected to it yet. I figure crews will show up and connect both 3G and 4G to it. And a side note - The tower in Atlanta has its sectors messed up. The Alpha (North) sector reports the SE location, the Beta (SE) sector reports the SW location and the Gamma (SW) sector is reporting the north location.

Sounds like a site near me with the RRUs mixed up. Hate that site and they won't fix it.

The cell tower by me was like that for about 2 weeks when they turned the new equipment on.

Has anybody checked to see if the site between Lindale and Mineola is broadcasting LTE?

I went to check it, and It is Not broadcasting LTE signal. It has poor 3g signal, but 1x is perfect. I think it is either having issues with LTE or has never had it

I was by it two times on Tuesday (8/20) and never had LTE from it.

This also begs the question - if hardware and backhaul are in place, why don't they turn it on?

You wouldn't happen to be located anywhere around Loop 281 would you? I remember someone saying the tower behind the Sprint store was broadcasting LTE but I haven't been able to pick anything up over there.

Somebody beat me to it. LTE has been mapped on 281 from Gilmer Rd down to Lobo Stadium.

    • Probably a lot of Midwest towers. Slight bias since Nebraska is a weird market, but there are tons of USCC sites that T-Mobile isn't yet co-located on. Think a similar situation in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri. But some other markets, like yours, probably don't have that issue!
    • Sticky Customers - YES, and leave them flip to the T-Mobile PLMN when needed and they will be even more likely to Stick.
    • It seems to me that if the goal is to improve rural, the US Cellular buy-out would get them only part of the way there, considering there are plenty of rural areas that US Cellular does not serve.  But I also have a hard time reading it the way I think that article is, that the cost of this deal comes straight out of the $9 billion.  I mean, they're getting spectrum for their existing operations in US Cellular markets, including places that I wouldn't call rural.  (Roanoke, VA is the 9th largest city in the state, for example.)  It seems like some of it should be allocated to rural expansion, but certainly not the whole purchase price. There's also something to be said for getting the customer base of potentially sticky customers who have been used to US Cellular being the only game in town for potentially decades. - Trip
    • T-Mobile has stated 15% of their sites don't have 5g triband. In WV I know WISPs had a lot of 2.5GHz, but T-Mobile was trying to buy as much as possible. More rural FWA would be a big selling point that might overcome any soft bandwidth cap slight overages. Especially since UScellular likely started offering it on c-band.
