Network Vision/LTE - East Iowa Market (Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Dubuque, Waterloo/Cedar Falls)

Iowa City lte tower. I was connected to serving cell 51 band 25. What and where does that mean. Thanks

That's the West Branch tower, it's currently the only one in the Iowa City area that is live with LTE right now. There are a couple more sites that are in progress. So far the Kirkwood/MidAmerican tower has not had any work done... there were some Samsung shipping boxes delivered last week, so hopefully work will be starting soon!

In the sponsor thread we've started tracking each new site as it goes live, including noting all the serving cells. This way we can easily tell when a new tower goes live with LTE. Consider becoming a sponsor and checking it out!

Edit: nevermind, you already are a sponsor! I need more coffee.  :)

If you haven't already, check out the spreadsheet thread here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4711-nebraska-iowa-market-spreadsheets-and-maps/

Connected to the 4G tower in Moline at the quad cities airport yesterday when picking someone up. 17.3 MB down and 6.7 MB up. Stayed connected as far east as Menards on JohndDeere Rd and 60th Street where speed was 2 MB down and 0.7 up. Can't wait for towers to go live. Been waiting for decent speeds since I started with sprint and the Epic 4G

I was in Buffalo Wild Wings over there and it was fantastic. Light them up Sprint.

There has been a lot more mapping done on Sensorly for the Tower in QCA.  Has a very good range for LTE.

Later,

John

If someone in Moline can get us the serving cells and or HEX Id's for this site for the East Iowa spreadsheet and map that would would be great. Sponsors have access to the exact site location that should make this fairly easy. If someone is interested, let me know if you have any questions.

I will help out.  tell me how to get the serving cells and HEX id's?  I have cdma field test, Signal siteMap, LTE Discovery, SignalCheck lite and Netmonitor installed on my S3.

there is a guide on how to get that info in this post here there will be 1 serving cell id for each sector on a tower. so the majority of the towers will have 3 serving cells. you will have to drive around the tower in order to get all 3. since you are a sponsor you can go to this thread here and see the spreadsheets and maps we are doing for IA and NE. when you get the serving cell IDs please post them in that thread as that is the one we are using to talk about and update our spreadsheets and maps. thanks a ton!!!! :D

Is it normal for them to shut off 4G? It was 3G all the way down John Deere Road from 74 to Menards when it was 4G almost a week ago

were you using data the whole time? maybe streaming internet radio? i ask because if your phone is on 3G and starts an active data connection it won't try to look for 4G until data stops being used or you lose 3G all together.

That's it! I was using sensorly from Iowa trying to map, you're right, I shut off sensory past Menards and it switched to 4G... thanks!

The LTE discovery app set to Cycle while not connected to LTE is your best friend when mapping out LTE.

They lit up sprint lte in waterloo, I was pulling 20mbs down. If you see mapping on sensorly, thats me mapping it in waterloo.

welcome to the site! and awesome! thanks for the update! we are tracking all the updates and live towers in the sponsor section with our own spreadsheet and maps. if you want to help us gather things like serving cell IDs and confirmation on live towers please consider becoming a sponsor and joining in the fun! :D

Ha, sure! Its fun doing this stuff! Also, I'm in Evansdale and it keeps switching from 4g to 3g. The antenna must not be fully operational yet.

yep it can be addicting ;) and i'm guessing you are probably just on the edge of the signal reach for the two towers that got accepted. there are 2 towers closer to evansdale that aren't 4G accepted yet, the 2 that got accepted are a little further away.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
