  1. This has happened to me before, I was an hour early to work because I use my phone as an alarm clock! I didn't really investigate it too much, but It seemed like a particular Sprint site had the wrong time zone offset, whenever I passed by that site on my travels my phone would jump forward an hour. But then it would not set itself back... I have done the same thing you did to fix it and turned off network time.
  2. I love those pictures with the workers on the towers! It's hard to get a sense of the scale of the Network Vision panels and RRUs from a lot of the pictures. Seeing the size of them really underscores the huge undertaking the entire Network Vision project is!
  3. Wow! I wonder if there's some tropospheric ducting going on. This time of year is when a lot of ducting can be observed with all the temperature swings. I recall one time many years ago I was in Washington County, IA and watching WPWR-TV 50 (~688MHz) out of Chicago crystal clear off a roof antenna. That's a little over 200 miles line of sight.
  4. That's the West Branch tower, it's currently the only one in the Iowa City area that is live with LTE right now. There are a couple more sites that are in progress. So far the Kirkwood/MidAmerican tower has not had any work done... there were some Samsung shipping boxes delivered last week, so hopefully work will be starting soon! In the sponsor thread we've started tracking each new site as it goes live, including noting all the serving cells. This way we can easily tell when a new tower goes live with LTE. Consider becoming a sponsor and checking it out! http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1195-information-about-s4gru-sponsorship-levels-and-how-to-become-a-sponsor/ Edit: nevermind, you already are a sponsor! I need more coffee. If you haven't already, check out the spreadsheet thread here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4711-nebraska-iowa-market-spreadsheets-and-maps/
  5. Here's a thread that has pictures of what Samsung Network Vision equipment looks like: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3906-how-to-spot-sprint-antennas-and-rrus-samsung-style/ If you get a chance to snag some pictures and you're a sponsor, post them in the "In Progress" thread and they'll mark the site as "In Progress" on the "Sites Complete Map" This would be the very first site anyone has confirmed to be underway in the Quad Cities market! Or just post them here so everyone in Iowa/Illinois can enjoy them! Very exciting for the Quad Cities! You're definitely next for the Network Vision love... Iowa City progress has been stalled for the past couple months, but Cedar Rapids has been averaging 1 new LTE site a week over the last month.
  6. Well, the first Sprint LTE in Iowa wasn't in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, or the Quad Cities. It's in... *drum roll please* ... West Branch!
  7. There has been more work completed in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, but there seems to be a backhaul delay. The sponsor forum has a map of all accepted sites, and there are no accepted sites in the Quad Cities. They may be in progress, but I haven't seen any members post pictures of Quad City sites. If you're in the area, consider becoming a sponsor and do some tower spotting! I would love to see some in-progress photos from the Quad Cities. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1195-information-about-s4gru-sponsorship-levels-and-how-to-become-a-sponsor/
  8. That's a full-build site. I drove past it in June when I was checking out some of the I-80 towers between Iowa City and Davenport. I'm surprised this is the first accepted LTE site, I always assumed it would be in Iowa City or Cedar Rapids. I may have time to swing by today... if not, this weekend definitely!
  9. King Street Wireless and KGAN-TV (Channel 51 in Cedar Rapids) are petitioning the FCC to switch the station from 51 to 29. The petition says KGAN-TV has "entered into a voluntary relocation agreement with King Street Wireless, L.P." and that this will "remove any potential interference with a wireless license in the Lower 700MHz A Block" http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/document/view?id=7520929493 This should help U.S. Cellular's LTE roll-out in Eastern Iowa. I believe they have already launched LTE here on their AWS spectrum. I wonder if other holders of A-Block spectrum will be negotiating with Channel 51 licensees and paying them to relocate.
  10. Possibly a high capacity site? There are a couple photos in the "How to Spot Samsung Antennas" thread with 2 antennas per sector, the additional one for more PCS capacity. One of the permits that references 6 antennas is in downtown Des Moines (at 1440 Walnut St.) which seems like it could be a high capacity site.
  11. I can confirm I was told the same thing this past Tuesday July 2nd. I called the 855 number listed on the Sprint Airave web site and was told I could only get a free Airave if I had 4 active lines on my account. They quoted me $130 if I signed an additional 2-year contract or $280 without. I was disappointed but didn't elevate it to retention. I am hoping once the NV upgrades are done here my signal will improve just enough to not drop calls. Living in a giant stucco apartment faraday cage wreaks havoc on my 1900 signal. And unless they change the PRL priority for iPhones, I will have to wait for a new jailbreak to install digiblur's 800MHz testing PRL.
  12. I have heard from a local source that backhaul work hasn't started yet in the Eastern Iowa market. This includes Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities. Apparently Mediacom (the local cable provider) is installing the backhaul in all of the metro areas. My source didn't know who would be running backhaul for the rural sites. CenturyLink is the local ILEC, but Iowa does have several independent local phone companies which may be contracted to run backhaul in rural areas. It looks like basically all Cedar Rapids sites are upgraded and accepted already, based on the latest map updates. Now we begin the wait for backhaul! Hopefully the full-builds will be starting soon in Des Moines, once the crews are done in Eastern Iowa.
  13. Can Sensorly be run from an old Android phone that is no longer activated on the Sprint network? I have an iPhone but would like to contribute to the Sensorly maps when LTE starts popping up around here. A friend upgraded to a Galaxy S4 but still has his Galaxy S3. It has no access to the Sprint network except for Emergency calls (911). I'm assuming Sensorly could still be installed via WiFi on this phone, but would it map LTE correctly without being activated on the Sprint network?
