Who cares about USCC? Sprint is actively deploying in the entire Nashville market. And before some other worthy markets I might add. Work should be starting very soon in the Knoxville area, if not already.

I don't care about USCC, I was just surprised they got LTE turned on here in Maryville before Sprint. And Sprint's 3G in Maryville is total crap 99% of the time, so yes I'm a little miffed something hasn't improved yet. And to me, Maryville is worthy. It is my home, brother.

Smaller regional carriers should be deploying LTE before the big boys in smaller communities. This is the best way to compete, IMO. That's why USCC is shunting several PCS markets to Sprint, because they had no path to upgrade those communities to LTE with the spectrum they had.

Yeah it'll bother you about USCC until you realize that they're a much smaller company, with significantly less markets with even less towers to upgrade. If they didn't get their LTE online it would just be bad for them. I'm sure we'll have our LTE going within a few months and then we'll be running circles around literally every other carrier around here.

If I lived closer, I would drive there and find out what the 3g speed is like, but I live around Warsaw, IN area... It would be quite the road trip. Where I live in get any where from 0.5mb/s DL up to 2.0mb/s DL speed on 3g.

If Maryville is anything like a lot of the tri cities area, data speeds are pretty abysmal right now. Be patient and in a few months we should start seeing major gains in data speeds.

Quick question, is it just me or did the I-81 corridor between knoxville and the tri cities used to have 3g along it? Was just looking at some Sensorly maps and noticed now it's nothing but 2g. Does that mean anything at all?

Sensorly uses crowd sourced data. Whoever provided the data to Sensorly had only a 1x signal. It could be because the EVDO network was down that day. It could be because they were in 1x only mode on their device. Or it could be a Sensorly data harvesting error.

I have actually gotten some decent 3G speeds in Maryville and Alcoa. It might depend on the time of day and phone.

The 3G along that route is a hit or miss. Near Greeneville it picks back up, Morristown is 2G, even in the city. Once you get close to Johnson City and Kingsport I have seen the speeds increase to over 1mbps.

If it did previously at some point, it was prior to roughly 2 1/2 years ago...I've been regularly driving through there to/from PA since late August 2010 and have never gotten 3G until roughly the outskirts of the Johnson City exits.

Maybe I've got my interstates mixed up. I seem to remember data speeds being fairly decent until you started getting close to the tri cities.

I have 4G! At my middle of nowhere house! Its exciting to see, but I have wifi that's faster at home. Haven't been to Nashville in a couple days so I don't know if its on there or not but its a step in the right direction.

Someone is building a new tower at the corner of Washington Pike and Mall Road South in Knoxville. Not sure who it is though.

 

I did some digging through the last 4 months of building permits and found that this tower is a new uscc tower. I did find that the sprint tower behind the mall did have a permits issued in October for antenna upgrades. I have also seen a lot of the permit sites with workers on the towers so February is looking good for Knoxville if we don't start seeing towers come online soon.

The Greeneville tower was accepted a couple days ago along with one near Kingsport. Robert had them posted in the completed towers thread.

Temporarily, for about 5 minutes, had Lte band 13 signal yesterday near I-24 and Harding Place. Was unable to use data with the signal, however.

This is likely due to the weak LTE signal strength you are receiving.

I mapped out some more area in Greeneville, it is showing in Sensorly now. Also near Jeff City, 4G is showing up, I don't know if I mapped that or not, since my phone was showing 3g but LTE Discovery was saying LTE.
