Network Vision/LTE - Las Vegas Market

The Sprint site at Boulder Highway just north-west of Nellis was approved by the Clark County Building commission yesterday. Is anyone near there that can take pictures and post them here? It's right next to the Long John Silvers on the west side of Boulder.

 

Do you know the cross streets I might be able to take a few pics also any updates on when they will turn on the LTE lol I think I check this site 2 times a day.

Northwest corner of Boulder and Nellis are the cross streets. Its right next door to the Long John Silver's.

I saw work being done on the site right off of the I-15 and Neal just before getting to the South Point (if heading northbound). Couldn't snap pictures though.

Just arrived here but been lurking awhile; I live in Henderson under the Black Mts and a large Sprint tower; I'll endeavor to add LTE info as I get it; right now I'm using Wimax on a Tri-Fi Sprint Hotspot..patiently waiting for LTE to arrive; thanx to all who contribute to this site...it is great!

However on the lower side of the strip, I can barely get any data service even though I have full signal. Calls and texts work fine, just no data. My phone will cycle between 1X and EVDO.

Inside the casinos the carriers have DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) to help with in-building coverage. There are a few towers with work being done in the Vegas area, but nothing near the Strip or the Rental Car Center that I know of yet. if you check out the Vegas Permit map, and you have a chance to check out any towers near where you are, that is if you are still in Vegas, post some pics.

3G speeds near the mts here vary greatly in the house; generally 1 mbit and below;further down the hill into Green Valley they improve, however; 3G call quality on my S2 has improved markedly over the last year or so at the house: I'll check out the sponsor info as it would be nice to have that info you mentioned

I live up near Hualapai and Farm, far NW edge of the valley; 3G & 4G Wimax signals are strong here, 3G speed is usually between 750 kbps and 1.5 Mbs using the Switch Communications server through Speedtest.net on my Motorola Photon 4G.

 

My work location on the other end of the valley (South Decatur & 215) has sketchy 3G data reception (due apparently to interference in a very small area) but I get good 4G Wimax in the spot that I am at. I can tether to my laptop using 4G Wimax and get consistent 6-9 Mb/s using the Photon.

 

In the past year, I actually bought and then sold a pair of (OG) Epic 4G's, 3 Epic Touch 4G's, and a Galaxy S3, returning every time to my Photon 4G. I really like the Samsung phones except for their somewhat weaker radio & data reception. When you work in a spot that is right on the verge of not having Sprint voice or data at all, you really notice the difference when comparing reception across different brands and models. The S3 had stronger reception than the E4GT and the OG Epic 4G, but still suffered from abysmal 3G data speeds compared to my old Photon 4G in the same spot.

 

Can't wait for 4G LTE, it will basically re-open the entire Sprint catalog of phones to me again! :-)

You won't like the new Motorola Photon Q LTE device, then. It has pretty much equal performance to the GS3 on 1x/EVDO on 1900, but had less performance on 850MHz roaming and LTE. I was bummed that it wasn't on par with the OG Photon.

 

In my testing, the Samsung Victory had the best radio performance of all Sprint LTE devices. However, I didn't test the iPhone 5.

So I haven't had a chance to take a picture of the towers on the map, however I have noticed a difference in speeds during the week versus the weekend. Both on and off the strip it has been faster and more consistent. At the Target on Blue Diamond Rd, I got 2 megabit down and 1 up today.

 

I saw a bucket truck working on a tower off Flamingo near the Sketchers Outlet/UNLV area. I need to look up to see if it could have been Sprint work or T-Mobile. I saw Ericson SUVs around town tonight also.

 

What I've noticed different about towers in the Vegas area versus where I'm from in the DC market, the Vegas towers are a lot shorter and most of them are monopoles instead of triangular tall latice structures. What are the reasons for using shorter towers?

I don't know. Cox wireless handled quite a few of the site build outs in the Vegas area and then sold their network to Sprint. Plus it could be that building codes in the metropolitan area refuse to allow such "unsightly" towers.

Checked the building permits for that tower. Sprint is the only one with any recent permit for work on it.

I saw some work on the tower on windmill between fairfield and placid. Truck was parked there two days in a row, hopefully something good. Seemed to be infrastructure, I didn't see a lift of any kind.
