Orange County Network Vision/LTE Deployment schedule update

Wow only 35 sites a month???? Dang I was expecting about 50-60 sites a month. I am disappointed it didnt make a March release.

Seems kind of bizarre that northern Orange County has been left out of the mix (Brea, Placentia, Yorba Linda, Anaheim Hills)

I think it all comes down to backhaul availbility. That is the biggest driver in deployment schedule. The backhaul install schedule is what it is. So if you're Sprint, what do you do?

Do you let the backhaul crews get farther out ahead and you delay the start by 2-3 months and then do 50-60 sites per month? Or do you start as soon as the first 30 sites or so have backhaul and deploy at a slower rate?

To me it makes more sense to start as soon as possible so customers see the work is going on and build entusiasm, than to wait until the back end of the market schedule and blow through it all at once. Because either way, with the backhaul schedule being what it is, the finish date is the same either way.

Only left out of the first 40% of sites. Those area will receive Network Vision/LTE deployment. The map only shows what is scheduled to be complete as of market launch day. Market launch is more ceremonial than anything. Deployment is active before, during and after launch until the market is complete.

I agree that Sprint should start NV build out ASAP to get progress going and bring backhaul online to those completed sites as soon as its available. I totally forgot the other potential delay was the availability of backhaul which is not the vendors fault in this case Alcatel Lucent.

Tough Pill to swallow... I don't know if I can wait a year for decent 4g coverage on Sprint.. When I ALREADY have decent 4G coverage on Sprint.. It's either leave or jump on the GS2 and ride WiMax for another year which isn't bad but the GS2 is almost a year old already..

Edit: Man I just pulled 8200 down and 1400 up in Anaheim indoors not by any windows... I can't go back to 3G

Understood. There is a third option. You can go ahead and move up to a LTE device and get a WiMax MiFi. You keep it with you and use it during those times when the 3G is unusable. There are a few people doing this now.

Why not just wait until 2013 to get a LTE phone? You will definitely get a better LTE phone than in 2012. If you are ok with Wimax until LTE comes out that would be the path I would go. I assume by your comment that you are thinking about extending your contract with a LTE phone by I would save that upgrade until next year and pick up a Wimax phone on craigslist if you really need 4G. If you did get a LTE phone, keep in mind that LTE would exist in the LA county area starting Sept. Either way to each and their own.

Thanks I plan on donating soon just because you guys are so passionate about helping out..

But I may go the mifi route.. This is a tough choice because GSM coverage sucks in So Cal T-mobile is ok but WiMax is wayyy better than HSPA in my experience. And VZW is completely evil so I wouldn't feel comfortable signing 2 years with them. Maybe Ill get a GS2 this summer and see how long I can stretch it.. Thanks!

My area has almost no sites... looks like it will be quite a while till Yorba Linda gets decent 4G LTE coverage.

This further cements my decision to wait on an LTE upgrade device until the rollout in the OC is lit up. My rooted 3D will do the trick for a few more months and by then the EVO4GLTE and GSIII will be old news (I hope) as the fresh batch of rumored phones will be in full swing.

Hell I may wait until xmas now...

Sales people don't actually know. The information on our site is not public knowledge or even information shared with Sales People. It comes from internal sources from within Sprint Corporate and their Network Vision OEM's and subcontractors. If it could be deployed faster, it would. They are starting with LA County first and then moving over to Orange County next.

Well I had the Evo Shift, which has Wimax 4g, so I assumed when the salesperson assured me that the Galaxy S3 had 4g all would be well. How is the average consumer supposed to know that LTE phones will not be able to use WIMAX 4g? Now I'm locked into a 2 year contract, and won't be able to use the LTE 4g for up to a year. I would rather just wait with my old phone and use the WIMAX and renew my contract when LTE is online and I can get a better phone then the S3. Also, in regards to your comment "If it could be deployed faster, it would" Verizon and At&t have LTE up and running in Orange County and around the U.S.

I'm sorry that you're unhappy. But I don't know how I can get you heated. We are not Sprint. We are a group of wireless enthusiasts and Sprint customers. I'm just giving you information. Robert - I have been viewing this site for months, and I don't think there are many people here who dislike you, if any. You and the other key members have always done a terrific job in helping all of us. 'fastchase' obviously has no real idea of what he is doing, taking aim at the wrong people and blogs. He also did not know what he was buying. Also, when he found out his phone did not work on 4G, he had 14 days to take a positive action, and did not do it anything to correct his mistake.

I just joined this site as a member and sponsor and am looking forward to a positive experience.

Any update on LTE in Orange County? I purchased SG3 yesterday and I love the phone, but I hate Sprint's 3G speed. sprint's 3G is horrible during the day. I've been getting 100~300 kbps in the morning, but at night it gets super fast, 2Mbps........

It looks like they are starting a little behind schedule. Activity should start before the end of the month, though.

Really need some love here in oc. I mean we are a huge county, a media market to la. Even riverside is starting up. I'm currently roaming with 3 towers within a half a mile. Awesome though I was at boomers in Irvine last weekend and there's a tower on south east side of bowling alley next to 405. Hit the speedtest and got over 2mbps down. Wish I could haul the tower with me everywhere I go lol.

Sprint listened!!!!!!! LOL. My tower that I use the most while at work OG03XC044 is on the map as having NV done. Just in the nick of time with 268mb's of roaming data used with a couple weeks left in cycle. Lets get some LTE now

Hi Robert. Hope you had a great Christmas. Just wandering if there is any update on LTE. The last posting is from 10/24/12. I have been waiting patiently for LTE to come to the OC before upgrading to the Note 2 (currently on EVO 3D). I am trying to hold out to see how it goes, but I am just about ready to switch to Verizon as our coverage gotten worse and worse....to a point that I am not getting much more than 200kbps down(3G as Wimax is so hit and miss to get coverage) for data and we are dropping more and more calls everyday! Been with Sprint for almost 20 years now and would like to stay, but it is getting harder and harder each day.... Any updated is appreciated. Thanks.

Deployment started in the beginning of December. It will likely be another 45-60 days before the first sites start to go live with LTE. Once they start going live, more and more will go live weekly until the whole county is complete.
