  1. Thanks for all your help guys. The great iPhone experiment with the wife is now over. She dropped the phone into the toilet (AFTER the flush) and of course we didn't purchase the Apple Care so we would have to pay $200 to replace it with a refurb unit. She didn't want to do that so I have reactivated her Blackberry. I have a nice shiny new iPhone 4S paperweight. I may see if I can get it repaired for relatively cheap and use it to replace my 8GB iPod Touch.
  2. Thanks for info. I wasn't sure if iCloud got it all. Sounds like it does. Sent from my EVO LTE using Forum Runner
  3. I need to take my wife's phone into the Genius bar and it may require a reset or perhaps a new device. So far I have been able to do everything without iTunes and I want to keep it that way. Is there any way to backup the phone and all it's data without using iTunes? Not really looking for a treatise on how much iTunes sucks/rocks. I do have her set up with iCloud but I am not sure that gets everything. Thanks for any information.

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

The OS will warn about background data because the OS doesn't know what plan you have. It's just part of the standard Android system. If you are worried about the data usage you could try disabling the Facebook app (Settings>Apps>All tab) and just accessing facebook via the browser. You obviously won't get any notifications and such unless you get them via email but that way you don't have to worry about background data.
  5. Got my first taste of LTE yesterday near the Bowie, MD tower. I was standing in line to vote early for nearly 3 hours bouncing between 3G and the WiFi signal that was leaking out of the library building, all within 300 yards of the LTE active tower. I wasn't even thinking about LTE because I had never been able to connect when near the tower. I was on my phone in some capacity the whole time I was in line. I randomly grabbed my phone to do something and saw the LTE icon in the status bar. I got excited and grabbed a couple screenshots and did a speed test. Shortly after I lost the connection and I never got it back. These shots were taken after about 90 minutes in the signal area. I guess that's the time needed for the phone to automatically connect to LTE. I sure hope HTC gets a fix for the Evo soon.
  6. Overall I still really like the device but it's becoming more and more buggy by the day and I'm not even talking about the LTE issues. I know the GS3 isn't perfect either but part of me wishes I had waited for that one. The poll question is a bit vague. It it "one of" the best. You could argue that. But I don't think I would recommend it to a friend. It doesn't make sense that the LTE connectivity issue hasn't been fixed this far out from launch date.
  7. When transitioning my wife from Blackberry I chose iPhone/iOS over Android for several reasons. UI was going to be friendly for her right out of the box. Easy to navigate and setup. Confidence that the device and software was going to work well together from the beginning. No need for any customization Form factor was in line with what she wanted Less headache for me with questions about why something isn't working or how do I get this back or what happened to my widgets, etc.
  8. Evo users were reporting a similar problem on the Sprint network. I turned off the automatic update and the problem went away.
  9. Here is the direct link to the App Store preview that Bollar was referencing above. http://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/ios/id36?mt=8
  10. This came to mind when I read your statement...then I chuckled.
  11. One thing to consider before making the jump is how married you are to Android apps. If you've spent a significant amount of money on apps then those are immediately useless to you even if the same app is available on iOS.
  12. it's that C64 he uses. Sometimes it hiccups and posts multiple times. When you use vintage hardware you have to expect things like that sometimes.
  13. Are you comparing LTE connectivity with another LTE device side by side? That's what digiblur and others are saying. You may be thinking that it is working fine but when you see where other LTE devices are getting strong connections and the EVO is not getting any connection at all then you see the extent of the issue. I have seen several users here report that their EVO is unable to connect to LTE no matter what they do in areas where other devices are connecting without issue.
  14. That is what we in the business call, the question. None of us here know what the problem is. This is all just speculation on the part of some and educated guesses based on extensive testing on the part of others. As Robert said earlier, all of the recently released LTE devices for Sprint had threshold issues which were fixed with OTA updates. The fact that the EVO hasn't been fixed yet, combined with the known LTE connectivity issues from when the device was still in the lab would lead one to deduce that it is more than a simple threshold adjustment problem.
  15. I think it was a clever statement on how figuratively hot the letter was and the OP just accidentally capitalized "cooks" "A letter from Tim cooks."
  16. I'm so glad I don't work at a place where people feel it's acceptable to curse at the workers. I would probably be locked up somewhere. Getting kicked out of a Sprint store for anything is just...SMH
  17. I would be willing to bet that every carrier has people complaining that the Android updates don't come fast enough. Once Google announces a new version, that version becomes the Holy Grail Fixer Of All Things Wrong With {insert older version name here}. People then want it yesterday and will complain that so-and-so carrier is the worst with updates. I would say buy a Nexus device if you want fast updates but I have even heard complaints that those updates don't go fast enough.
  18. You still haven't told me if it's "AN tom-a-to or A tom-ah-to?"
  19. That Lat/Long indicates a site that is in the Baltimore market.
  20. I don't understand the question. What about it?

  22. Maybe the Evo is just a little shy and when it is around other devices it doesn't like to show off. I'm going with that.
  23. Def not doing a factory reset at this point. It just does random stuff like that sometimes. If it was an app I would think that some unusual awake activity would be showing up but the awake graph is not showing anything unusual. The second set of schots shows more awake activity with less battery impact.
  24. Ok, so I've barely used my phone at all when I go to take it out of my pocket and it's smoking hot. The temp app says over 40 Celsius. I've been within 15 feet of the wifi router pretty much all day at work so signal should not have been an issue. It has gone from full off the charger to less than 50% with hardly any use. I set it on my desk and forget about it. I leave to go home and I try to turn on the screen and find that the unit is completely dead. No battery at all. Plug in the charger in the car and the LED slowly blinks for several minutes before going solid orange to indicate charging. I can finally boot it up and check my battery stats and this is what I see. My battery just fell off a cliff for no discernible reason. The screen was barely on; no unusual wake activity and you can see that the device was idle for 6h 59m of the just over 7h it was on battery. Today I've had similar usage, just not keeping it in my pocket and the battery looks like this; This device is so baffling sometimes!
