  1. Considering Sprint has already publicly stated there will be a tri-band LTE phone from LG before year end, I would be shocked if it were anything other than this (G2). Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  2. Not necessarily, but I believe when Qualcomm comes out with a new radio it is first made available as part of their integrated SoC+baseband platform, and only later will it ship as a standalone chip. So that companies which insist on using their own SoC designs will be a generation (or maybe just a few months?) behind on baseband tech. Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  3. The LG phone expected in the fall should be the sequel to their Optimus G, which was released last fall and which Sprint still sells. The Pro that is on AT&T is intended to be the start of a different device class, like the Note is for Samsung. The Pro series from LG will be characterized by larger screens and a build emphasizing functionality and ergonomics (i.e., curved plastic) where their main flagship line will stay around 4.7-5 inches and have a more "high design" feel. Anyway, look for LG's next phone on Sprint to be super-premium and include a Snapdragon 800 chip with tri-band LTE. I just don't think it will be labeled as "Pro". 4. I am getting LTE in about half of my neighborhood now, off Dovershire in the Sardis Forest area. I have it mapped on Sensorly. I don't know if there is another tower intended to cover the back half, or if it's just a dead zone, but it is impossible to hold any kind of a signal right now. 5. Good: I got 23 down at Sharon Amity & Independence this morning. Bad: still can't stream anything consistently on my commute, no LTE uptown & weak 3G, and no coverage at all in my neighborhood (Sardis Forest area). As everyone says, coverage and consistency are far more important than speed, and Sprint just does not have the city covered at this point. I am hoping to see the NV activity pick up, but they are hitting 1-3 sites per week since the official launch, usually LTE only, and nothing is happening within the city limits as far as I can tell. LG Optimus G

Man, I like this phone so much, I'm having trouble restraining myself from posting in every thread where people are asking "should I get a Samsung or HTC" and evangelizing for LG Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  7. Well, Charlotte was supposed to be a second-round market like Austin. And the delay from the announcement of "LTE will roll out in the coming months" to the official (partial) launch took a while. I think they have indeed fallen behind their intended schedule, but not anything they publicized. My greater concern for Charlotte is site density. The premise of Network Vision is that bringing LTE to every tower should allow Sprint to be competitive with VZW and ATT's low-frequency LTE networks because their towers are already spaced for PCS coverage. But in fact their are gaps in 3G coverage in this city in many populated, well-traveled areas. I worry that this may not improve until LTE-800 is turned on. LG Optimus G

I agree, and that's partly why I got this one now, because I kind of assume the sequel will be larger. Interesting that I objected to the size of the Samsung and HTC phones but this one won me over. Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  9. I just picked up an LG Optimus G, so I'm finally ready to start mapping LTE around the city. (Previously was on the NS4G.) But I agree it feels like Sprint gave up on this market Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

    LG Optimus G

I got the same deal. Except my old phone was the Nexus S! I am kind of astonished by everything this phone can do, it is in a completely different league in performance, screen quality, sparkliness etc. And I am definitely starting to appreciate the argument that the large screen is worth dealing with slightly more awkward ergonomics. 11. Gahhh. I had finally made up my mind to get the Optimus G, now I have to wait and see what this is about... Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  12. I agree with the power of donuts that it will be Note3 and LG2G. I know Samsung said they will do a tri-band S4 but absolutely nothing to suggest that would be for Sprint. Could just be a Korea-only variant or whatever. For Moto, I don't think there have been any genuine leaks of their next high-end device, only fan-made mockups that get misreported. There have been true leaks, but for a different, mid-range device. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 4 Beta

    LG Optimus G

I went to a Sprint store yesterday to investigate the HTC One because of the pre-registration offer they had. The HTC was buried in the corner of the store, whereas LG had the big table in the middle. I thought the Optimus G was by far the best device in the store. Will probably pick one up next week when my contract is up. Edit: unless there are any surprises at CTIA! Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 4 Beta

    LG Optimus G Pro

The first Optimus G had engineering leaks months before its release, it was being referred to as Eclipse for a while. So I agree, I can easily imagine what blogs are talking about now is just super-early leaks of a G2.
  15. Whoa, another Daniel J in Charlotte? Hopefully there's enough room in this city for the both of us. Fortunately I am 1982, so there will be no confusion... Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  16. I am considering doing the same. How do you like the phone so far? I wish more of the mid-priced 2012 phones would get JB upgrades (Viper, Victory, ZTE Flash). I want a stop-gap phone to get me LTE, and save my upgrade for later in the year, but I was so happy to have proper group text messaging on JB, I really don't want to go back to ICS. So MoPhoQ may be the way to go, even though I really have no need for the keyboard! Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  17. The tower on 51 near Providence is showing a "data speed upgrade" on the network.sprint.com maps, but nothing on S4GRU yet (I know Robert is on vacation). This is around where I live so I am naturally anxious to see progress in this area.
  18. This seems so similar to the GS3, which is already getting discounted. I don't quite see where they price it so that it makes sense among all the other available Samsung phones. One potential way of differentiating it would be for it to be Samsung's Facebook phone. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  19. Do you guys think I should pick up a used Viper to play with until my contract is up in June? I am on the NS4G, we are finally getting some LTE here in Charlotte and I want to start driving around and doing speed tests. I'd feel vaguely guilty going backwards to ICS from JB, but judging by the screenshots you all have put up it looks pretty nice after the update. (Except Josh, that font is hideous.)
  20. Yeah I have never pulled a Wimax signal inside the corp ctr though it works great in some other buildings. But definitely need to get LTE inside there.
  21. No discernible change in 3g speeds uptown: ~100kbps at Trade & Tryon
  22. Yes that's correct, S III is LTE not Wimax. I have noticed poor handoffs in the Elizabeth area too, but I'm still on Wimax. My impression is it ought to be much better on LTE. So I hope your experience is just temporary glitches while they are doing the upgrades. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
  23. Vestavia are you talking LTE or Wimax? Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
  24. I am not on LTE yet but I will report on 3g speeds later this week. My coverage has always been good uptown, i.e. many bars, but the network is clearly overloaded as speeds are poor. So hopefully network vision backhaul upgrades will solve everything. Won't be able to really evaluate until everyone gets back to work though. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
  25. I will add, the design tweaks make a difference to me. What I like about my current phone vs the iPhone is the rounder corners and edges. The Optimus G is too severe for me, I prefer the way they softened the edges for the Nexus 4. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
