So people currently in the middle of a two-year service agreement for a phone will be considered "non-discounted" in the new plan? I am skeptical based on the language at http://support.sprint.com/support/article/FAQs_about_Sprint_Family_Share_Pack/85ba5891-1b6a-4ebf-9f2c-e16eec3ce55f/?INTNAV=SU:SprintFamilySharePack:Wired:08182014:Learnmore Obviously we'll find out for sure on Friday

You can bring your own phone. In the graphic it says "Non-discounted: People who select Easy Pay, pay full price or bring their own phone" http://support.sprint.com/support/article/FAQs_about_Sprint_Family_Share_Pack/85ba5891-1b6a-4ebf-9f2c-e16eec3ce55f?INTNAV=SU:SprintFamilySharePack:Mobile:08182014:Learnmore

The new plans provide exactly what I have been hoping for: a way to save money once all my family members have fulfilled our contracts. Right now we pay $180 for three lines on a grandfathered ED 1500 plan. Once we have all finished our 2 year contracts, we could switch to the 20GB family share and cut our monthly bill to $145. Then just buy used phones off swappa.

AJ how do you think we should reconcile that table with the answer in the FAQ: I'm a current Sprint Customer. Can I get 20GB of high-speed data on up to 10 lines for $100/mo? Current customers can get 20GB of high-speed data for up to 10 lines for $160/mo, but the promotional price of $100/mo applies only to lines that are switched from another carrier to Sprint.

Softbank news: The Sharp Aquos Crystal is stunning and U.S. bound
djw39 replied to jonathanm1978's topic in Sharp
I think we have, in the sense that phones from late 2012 like the iPhone 5 (now 5c) and my phone, the Optimus G, are continuing to perform well enough that specs alone are not a compelling reason to upgrade. But I really would think twice before downgrading, that seems crazy. And these snapdragon 400 chipsets are actually behind the APQ8064 I am running with my 2 year old phone that I got for $160 off contract last summer. -

With MSM8926, processor & graphics would be a downgrade even from my Optimus G. Similar to G2 mini. At least it's triband? -
Also, handsets this year? Or "devices" (read: hotspots)

Yeah I am still on the Optimus G and can't test. I guess I would get either Nexus 5 or G3? Still hoping for something great from Moto...

Android L preview port is here. I'm running it, Sprint data working & everything. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2818325

I used to rent a house on Lincrest Pl which is in the news basically every time it rains, it's right along McMullen creek and floods routinely. Happy to be on higher ground. Can't speak to LTE, but still seems day to day if 1x800 is on or off in Charlotte. My sense is that it is really helpful for phone "strain" and should improve battery life and thermals. But it's not like I've tested anything scientifically.

Thanks for clarifying! In my case it is three lines, so the new family plan would still beat the framily easily.Edit: I am of course assuming 20GB is as good as unlimited for my family's purposes, that won't be true for everyone.
-
I wonder how corporate discounts would be applied to these plans. Right now I get 23% off the $110 part of an everything data plan. My understanding is that on a Framily plan it would only be applied to at most one $20 unlimited data add-on. If the discount were on the whole data package, e.g. the $100 for 20GB, good deal.

I would lean towards saying it's not optimized yet as it seems like we're in a pattern where it's on for a couple of days, then off again for a few days. And nothing on the S4GRU update list yet of course. So, could be good. Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk

Mmm sounds like you're saying I can wait and see what the next Moto phone looks like before upgrading Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk

1x800 is turned back off today. =( Is this the map you're talking about? s4gru.com/index.php?/gallery/image/29-network-vision-partner-map/ Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk

Seeing consistent 1x800 in my neighborhood now, south Charlotte close to Matthews. Signal is around -100. Will that be enough to allow us to ditch the airave? And do you think LTE-800 will reach out here judging by that signal strength? Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk

I'm on the Optimus G as well--but I think this is actually a downgrade in everything except LTE bands. Processor is only Cortex A7, graphics are Adreno 305 vs. 320 in the Optimus G. (And plastic vs. the fabulous crystal reflective whatever.)
-
This is about typical for uptown, indoors, in the past six months at least. I assume the slower download than upload reflects bad situations with backhaul/network congestion? Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk

I am seeing 1x800 uptown now and some new BSL addresses. Have also seen 1x800 in the Cotswold area. Hopefully this will help with handoffs through elevators/parking garages. Does anyone have a phone with LTE 800 bands? I don't know if those are active yet (still on the Optimus G myself).

I agree that the maps are borderline fraudulent in this city. Anything that says "fair" you should interpret as "no signal". Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk

This phone has held up really well. If it had the spark lte frequency bands I'd buy it again today. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

Yes this is huge. Haven't seen anything yet myself but very hopeful Sent from my LG-gee using Tapatalk

Still rocking the Optimus G, awesome phone Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk

Teaser: Samsung Galaxy S5 gets a boost via Wi-Fi but not carrier aggregation
djw39 commented on WiWavelength's blog entry in The Wall
I think/hope the point of it will be to allow you to keep your wifi turned on and get at least some use out of those inconsistent public wifi hotspots which you are currently avoiding. That would be a net gain for Sprint's network.
