  1. Sometimes even though FIOS passes a building it's still not available because the building owners wouldn't let them in to do the install, already have a contract with cable, etc. But if you live in a single home, that's just Verizon being dumb old Verizon! They do what they damn well please and that's that. Same reason they won't give me any more than 3 Mbps on my DSL line, even though it can more than handle it.
  2. I knew it! Still waiting for the other site off 309 in New Tripoli ... also on 863 near Red Rd., and 737 & 143 in Kempton.
  3. Okay, I'll tell him to try it out! He said he tried GV a while ago but didn't like the quality of the call but I think that may have been before it was updated. He also said Ting will be offering GSM soon and that somebody he chatted with told him Tmo has WiFi calling on the N5. Is that true?
  4. A friend of mine has an N5 and uses an Airave and has problems with it. What's the status of Wifi Calling on the N5? Also, he uses it on Ting.
  5. I'm now trying to get VZ to update the online qualification database. My address as well as all of my neighbors still come back DSL not available...even though we have it! How hard is it to change an entry in a cell???
  6. Apparently its not ready for the E8 yet ????. Which makes no sense since its the same phone!
  7. Well, our houses already had copper in the ground, but they re-routed the lines before our houses to shorten the loop from the RT. I don't think fiber could have been used in that situation... but I get your point!
  8. I know I've posted about this before, but PA has regulated DSL. All ILECs must offer DSL by 12/31/2015 or be fined by the state. Of course, Verizon is the only one who has yet to complete their deployment. My development of 10 homes is about a mile from the end of the cable plant and surrounded by protected farm lands. We'll likely never have cable, and we just got DSL in October. A brand new, shiny, fiber-fed RT built to serve only 19 possible homes which of course VZ has capped at 3 Mbps for arbitrary reasons. Someone in tech support told me my line can definitely handle 10 Mbps, but Verizon refuses to offer more. I think a part of the new definition says something about only needing to provide 10 Mbps in rural areas in order to qualify for a subsidy. I think that seems reasonable. IMHO, as much as everyone/the industry wants to hate copper and DSL and wants it to go away as soon as possible, it won't happen. There are too many last mile people who can't get anything else who will keep their DSL line no matter the cost. Verizon even had to string some new copper (about a mile) and put up new poles to re-route the plant to bring us DSL.
  9. On my way home today just noticed the tower in Germansville (Lehigh county) lit up with LTE!
  10. Yeah, the LV Mall and Whitehall in general is kind of lacking ... You can pick up LTE but I think it's from a more distant site. Which I don't really understand given the population and all the shopping!
  11. My area in northwestern Lehigh County is pretty much the only area left in the market without ubiquitous LTE! I blame Verizon as the ILEC...
  12. 7 lines on Framily, 2 with unlimited data, 1 with a $15 easy pay and another with $37 iPhone 6 lease with $13 insurance. Comes to about $270
  13. I feel like MMS messages are weird, they use data but Sprint doesn't count them as data. But I have a friend on ting with data blocked and they can't send picture messages. Does the iPhone 6 have WiFi calling?
  14. Well, so far she is able to text and nothing is showing up on My Sprint as being an additional charge. I did tell her to turn off iMessage and not make phone calls. I chatted with Sprint and of course they were nearly useless. Said that texts would cost 20 cents per text regardless...but clearly, they are wrong! EDIT: What about sending pictures? Will that cost anything?
  15. We do have the Framily plan. She will have a work phone for calls, but is mostly concerned about personal texting. Thanks for the info so far!
  16. My sister will possibly be spending several weeks in Canada and asked me about phone options. Sprint's website says about 4 different things in regards to that! She is mostly concerned about texting and calling. She has an iPhone 6. It looks like Sprint has a Canada roaming option for $2.99 a month, then calls are 20 cents a minute. But, I found this: http://shop2.sprint.com/assets/pdfs/en/support/guides/services/worldwide/Worldwide_eflyer.pdf which leads me to believe only receiving calls costs 20 cents a minute? And texting - the International Texting plan I found says it only applies to people texting international numbers. What's the charge if she texts people while she's in Canada? I'm assuming the person sending the text won't get a charge, but she will whether sending or receiving. The Canada-Mexico Data pack Add-On is pretty straightforward (and expensive!) Any held would be great!
  17. Wonder if they'll still carry all the electronic "stuff" if this happens. There's nowhere else to go when you need rabdoms cables, connectors, or adaptors of any type!
  18. Most of the northern parts of the Valley, like Kempton, New Tripoli, Germansville, Schnecksville, Slatington, Walnutport, and Danielsville have no LTE whatsoever. I think it's obviously a problem with backhaul. Up here it's only Verizon and Blue Ridge Cable/PenTeleData so there is a distinct lack of fiber running around. Where you do find fiber, it's linking the Verizon central offices to each other or to their respective remote terminals for DSL and POTS. There are tons of people in this area stuck on 3 Mbps Verizon DSL probably for the foreseeable future, unless they somehow add backhaul capacity to the CO's. Verizon is in the midst of trying to comply with a state law requiring universal DSL coverage and only has until 12/31 of this year to finish. They have been busy building remote terminals & DSLAMs that are being fed with fiber, but still only offer 3M/768k. The one that serves me just got turned on the beginning of November. There is pretty awesome B41 coverage from about Trexlertown and Fogelsville west to Kutztown, mostly along the 222 corridor. And then south. These must be new equipment too because we never even came close to having WiMax around here. Most places that have B25 have B26 now also, it is really helping fill in all the valleys & hills that have spotty coverage.
  19. It's interesting to see some comments on other sites (DSLReports, anyway) are much less negative than they used to be, and some people are super informed. Of course, some of those people are probably us (myself included!) Trying to quell the trolling!
  20. I've been noticing quite a bit of microwave panels popping up on some towers around the LV. Maybe they will finally launch the remaining LTE sites soon!
  21. Yes, I think she tried a new cord, but I'm not 100% sure since she lives in another state ...
