  1. Ok, I'll give this one more go, and use the number under the battery. Let's see what happens.
  2. Ok, but this last time when I called I gave them the MEID from the box. It still didn't work. In my call this afternoon we also tried using the one on the bottom of the device.
  3. My EVO LTE didn't activate out of box ... and I was at the Sprint store. It took almost an hour. They had to start over. They were about to swap it out when they realized the guy that did it - who was fairly new - typed my phone number in wrong. Mifi: When I did the data profile update, it just kept giving errors. I was able to view the data profile, and (1) it didn't have my device's phone number listed and (2) the MEID DEC number displayed didn't match the box. Someone told me that didn't matter.
  4. I tried calling again hours later, and the same thing. I asked the girl if there was a higher level of tech support - she said yes, and she put me on hold while she "talked to them." came back saying the only other thing they could do was swap out the device. I just ... why would they offer the "advanced" options in the browser interface, that require the MSL code, and then not know anything about them. I should say, though, that all the people I talked to spoke English, were extremely polite and really seemed like they cared. Not like calling Sprint support used to be like 5 years ago.
  5. Has anyone picked one of these up? I ordered a Mifi 500 LTE on Monday, it arrived today. Tried to activate it myself, had an error so I called Sprint - this happens to me usually every time I get a phone. The "hands free activation" rarely ever works for me. Talked to one guy for about 1/2 an hour, couldn't get it working. He told me he would call back. An hour later, I got tired of waiting so I called back. Ended up being on the phone about 2.5 hours this time. The tech, who I was on with for close to 1.5 hours, tried everything he could to get it working. We reset it multiple times, etc., it still got stuck at "Hands free activation in progress" which then produced an error code. I asked if it could be programmed manually, he claimed it couldn't (even though I saw "View/edit profile" in the browser interface, but you needed an MSL to get into it.) He ended up saying it was defective, so they are sending me a new one. Had to send me over to sales support. After about 10 minutes, they tell me they are now on back order for 10-15 business days. I can't believe they sold out in one day! From yesterday to today. Then it was a process to get a return ticket, etc. They ended up giving me a $10 credit for all the hassle, which was great. Has anyone else had this problem? Or a problem with any other phone/device where this happened? I just find it hard to believe that a brand new device is defective ... but I suppose it could be.
  6. Mine hasn't ... but I'm 25 miles away from you in New Tripoli... I got one of the new Mifi hotspots today and it wouldn't activate. Sprint claims it's defective and they are sending me a new one. Except now it's on back order for 10-15 business days. FML.
  7. Anyone pick up a new hotspot yet? I ordered the new Mifi 500 LTE. It came today. It won't activate. After 2 hours on the phone, Sprint says it's defective and they're sending me another one. Except now it's on back order ... I just ordered it yesterday!
  8. I've noticed a lot of awesome 3G speeds in the Lehigh Valley. Still only a few sites with LTE. And, still waiting on the site nearest to me to get upgraded backhaul!
  9. I agree, I'm addicted to it also! My sister picked up my phone over the weekend and said "Why is there an "EH" next to your bars?" Haha. I just said, "I downloaded an app that plays a sound when I have 4G." She just responded with "Oh." LOL!
  10. Turns out 3 of my computers downloaded over 50 Windows updates ... damn Microsoft! I think I will be fine, though. Now that I know what caused it I feel a bit better!
  11. Came across this interesting article, an artist did some type of rendering of what Wifi signals would look like if we could actually see them. I'd love to know what cellular signals would look like! http://gizmodo.com/what-the-world-would-look-like-if-you-could-actually-se-846030448
  12. Also, I was in Palmerton last weekend. I never realized how lacking that area of Carbon County is. In almost all of Palmerton I was roaming. Checked out Sprint's coverage map....no native coverage in Palmerton. Lots of areas north of the Lehigh Tunnel on the NE Extension never even got 3G. They have their work cut out for them!
  13. I travelled to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area today. Data speeds were awful and at times I was only on 1xRTT!
  14. I'm in the Philly market (but in the Lehigh Valley) and I plan to get one...not sure which though. Replacing my Mifi 4082 as my home internet - no cable or DSL here.
  15. Never got wimax here! Clear actually seems like a pretty good deal. Too bad it never got here. Maybe they'll offer something similar with LTE.
  16. Yeah, the line is under contract for another year. Like, I said, I don't really know what I wanted them to do, or if I expected them to do anything. I just figured I'd call and try. The only other options are satellite, which has similar data caps, is more expensive, has a lot of latency, and is generally unreliable. I've asked several of the neighbors (we are a group of about 10 houses), several used to have HughesNet and most have since switched to some sort of mobile broadband. One has Verizon, our direct neighbor has Sprint. There is a local WISP, but we are just outside their coverage area. We haven't gone over our plan in the year we've had it...in fact for a few months we had only the 6GB plan. We don't stream anything, mostly because we still only have 3G, and the tower hasn't gotten new backhaul yet, so it averages around 500-700 kbps. There is a glimmer of hope, though. The state of PA is requiring every ILEC to deploy DSL to every customer by Dec. 31, 2015. Verizon, of course, is the only one who hasn't met the commitment yet, and of course is our carrier. According to the law, it should be ready by October 2014 or so...
  17. I've said this before, so if you've read it from me before...sorry. But, I have no cable or DSL internet at my house, so we have a Mifi 4082 hotspot as our internet source. (Hence why I stumbled on S4GRU...looking for when LTE would be available to me here. And I've been hooked since, and now more obsessed than ever!) Our plan starts on the 10th of the month. We have the 12GB plan. Somehow, and I have NO IDEA how, we've managed to rack up 6 GB SINCE LAST WEDNESDAY when the month rolled over. I don't recall in that week doing anything out of the ordinary - I do spend some time on Youtub sometimes, but since I realized it was piling up I've stopped. It does seem that Microsoft released a fair amount of Windows updates last week...we have 4 computers with Windows 7. I also noticed that my AVG wanted to update, and then Skype did also, etc. I just find it utterly shocking that somehow, 6GB got used up. I've since turned off Wifi on my phone also. (I know, you're probably thinking, why would I use wifi on my phone when the wifi is the same network?! The Mifi signal is stronger than data on my phone anywhere in the house, even when the phone is right next to the Mifi (which I have mounted on a wall.) ). Sort of panicking, I called Sprint tonight. I'm not sure why- because I know they don't offer a larger plan. I explained that I have no other internet at my house - they apologized. Great. I have their sympathy - but there isn't anything to do. They suggested activating a mobile hotspot on one of the lines, which I might end up having to do if this ridiculous usage continues - but the problem is, that a phone then has to be placed in a window in an upstairs bedroom to get the best signal. I suppose we could make do with that, but what a pain. Or, just eat the overage charges. Which, I have found varying amounts for. One part of the website claims they are 5 cents per MB - if you look under "additional usage" on the mobile broadband plans. If you hover over the words "additional usage" the pop up that appears says 1.5 cents per MB. I tend to think it is 5 cents - but how can they have such wrong information on their website?! I screen shotted it so perhaps if I do go over, I could try to argue something. Again, not sure why I'm writing this, or why I tried calling Sprint, but is there really NOTHING that can be done? I suggested getting a credit for the overages - they said no. Maybe I should try asking for a one-time credit for being a loyal customer of 10+ years - which I'm not sure would do anything. Will I get lucky one time and get someone who knows something about programming that could "fudge" something? (Add a 3GB plan on top of the 12GB plan? Add mobile hotspot plan to the Mifi line?) The billing cycle isn't up until August 9th, so I could call everyday I suppose and try various approaches. I do like Sprint, am excited for coverage post-NV, which I know will be coming soon to my area, AND Verizon and AT&T are FAR MORE expensive for mobile broadband plans (and everything else.) They do offer higher-tiered plans, but at exorbitant prices. Sorry to bore everyone with such a long post. I don't know what I'm looking for, if nothing more than just a place to vent a bit. :-)
  18. I found this in an article at eweek.com about the Mifi 500 LTE: "The MiFi 500 LTE includes Novatel software enhancements to the MiFi Technology Platform that extend usage time through more efficient use of battery capacity. MiFi users on platforms with the enhanced software features will also be able to download files over the Internet faster with MiFi models enhanced with Novatel’s software for Content Delivery Optimization (CDO). By utilizing optimized firmware on the MiFi technology platform, CDO can accelerate download speeds by as much as 30 percent beyond the 4G LTE capabilities of MiFi products. - See more at: http://www.eweek.com/mobile/sprint-novatel-partner-on-mifi-500-lte-mobile-wifi-hotspot/#sthash.wEeLTwS1.dpuf" What do you suppose that even means?
  19. I remember the premier program! For some reason we never got any upgrades during that time though. But I remember getting random $5 bill credits.
  20. The tower near my house has "1 data speed upgrade" and I haven't noticed anything different!
  21. Here's a better link: http://www.phonedog.com/2012/02/08/sprint-upgrade-now-program-leaks-will-offer-select-customers-an-early-upgrade-for-a-price/
  22. It was called "Upgrade Now." They launched in Feb. 2012. It appears they've discontinued it though...now would be a great time to bring it back! http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-57376667-85/sprint-upgrade-now-program-to-offer-prorated-fees/
  23. Like here in Kempton, PA! I live 1/2 mile from where the cable stops, and we are too far from the CO for Verizon DSL. Verizon (and other ILECs) have a commitment to PA to provide broadband to every customer by Dec. 31, 2015. Verizon is the only company who hasn't met the commitment yet. They told us we should have it by October 2014 - there's a very strict time limit and residency requirements to speed the process along.
  24. Was that the "pay a fee and upgrade early" program? My sister did that with her old LG Optimus S. She wasn't due for an upgrade for like a year or something and she paid I think $100 to upgrade early and got an S2. (this was last year)
