  1. Once Streetsboro goes live you'll be golden. And I'm sticking with my prediction that March is going to be a huge month for us up here in NEO - LTE just went live on the tower that covers my house...although I'm on wifi at home it's still exciting!
  2. I'm assuming that you're driving from Kent North to Streetsboro. Check out the completed towers map, you're driving from legacy towers in Kent (Motorola) to NV accepted (Samsung) equipment / towers in Streetsboro. It is a well known, well documented issue that Motorola to Samsung equipment (and the inverse) will result in a hard drop because the equipment is not compatible with one another. Trying to avoid the inevitable dropped call issue as much as possible is the reason why we have to wait for clusters of towers to be turned on in our market as opposed to flipping each tower on whenever it's ready.
  3. The site across from Copley HS on Ridgewood East of 21 has LTE, confirmed it the other day when I drove by.
  4. I seriously wonder if this would be a solution for my Airave. I couldn't stay connected to it to save my life. I have since moved from the condo I was in where I needed it, in my house now it would just be a convenience and give me coverage in my basement. In the next week or so I'll have to plug it back in and play around with it to see what happens. FYI, you can see exactly which tower you're connected to by entering the Field Test Mode and checking the Base ID info for both 1x and EVDO (LTE screen have more info). To enter Field Test Mode just dial *3001#12345#* and then call. The Airave Base ID was always something much longer than the tower servicing my house and was easy to see which it was connected to (and more accurate than just looking as signal bars / dots).
  5. Have you noticed if you're still getting push notifications over wifi such as iMessages / emails etc? If so then I think you've found your culprit. If this solution works for you it's certainly not ideal, but at least gives you a piece of mind and a workaround until a better solution can be found.
  6. I hope it helps. I had battery drain issues with my 4S and it drove me crazy. I finally tracked the issue down to the fact that Skype, Talkatone, and Facebook would keep themselves in an active data session as opposed using the native push notifications that Apple supports. I deleted Skype & Talkatone altogether and killed off Facebook by double clicking menu button and killing it after every use. Miraculously my battery drastically improved - I was losing upwards of 10-15% per hour and after deleting / killing the culprits it dropped to 5-7% per hour even with moderate to heavy use. Your drain could be due to many things, but losing battery that quickly is very frustrating and I hope you find a solution soon.
  7. As much as I trust Lawrence Finch to be the expert in this field, I just tried my own test by turning cellular data off while on wifi, putting the phone in standby for 20 minutes, then sent myself and iMessage from my wife's phone - bing - message came through to my phone instantly. So unless Apple built a test into the software to continuously check to see if there's a cellular connection while in standby and if so turn wifi off to conserve battery (which by the very nature sounds counter-intuitive) I think your theory that using cellular data on 1x even when on wifi is draining your battery is off. I do, however believe that the phone will still maintain a cellular data connection even when on wifi even though all the data traffic is being pushed over wifi. The fact that you have a very weak cellular signal in your house will cause the battery to drain quickly because it's constantly trying to maintain a connection as a backup source. The Airave *should* solve that problem, but the issue falls on the fact that the Airave is a very spotty device that has countless issues with it (just try and count up the number of Airave threads on S4GRU alone). Frankly I could never get my Airave to work and I spent weeks trouble shooting with Sprint, my ISP, and my own patience to no avail. Your battery drain can be very frustrating and I wish that I had a solution for you, but my advice would be to just turn cellular data off altogether while at home and see if that solves anything for you.
  8. There was a known bug when iOS 6 was released where the phone would occasionally default to cellular data even when in wifi, but I believe that had been fixed shortly after the initial release (google the reports of Verizon & AT&T customers freaking out - VZW & AT&T ended up waving a bunch of overage charges due to the software glitch). Although you're correct in that when you wake the phone from standby it may take a second for the wifi icon to appear, but I seriously doubt that it's only using cellular data when in wifi, especially considering that the vast majority of iPhone users are on a limited data plan. Put the phone in airplane mode then turn wifi on. Let it go into standby and then wake it, the wifi icon may take a second or two to appear, but you'll still be getting push messages when the phone is in standby which would verify that you still have a data connection over wifi. If you truly feel that your battery drain issue is that the phone flips to cellular data when in standby while in wifi, just turn cellular data off (settings, cellular, turn off cellular data). I'd be willing to bet you'd still get all of your push mail / messages and if your theory is true then the phone won't be straining to pull data down on 1x. FWIW, I'm one of those that have had nothing but problems with an Airave - it's on top of my cabinet collecting dust right now.
  9. With the CSFB issue they typically haven't been flipping 4G on without 3G first. I'm happy to see any activity in the area, and LTE shouldn't be too far away.
  10. Yes, the towers serving my house were just flipped on for 3G yesterday. Looking forward to seeing some more large clusters in NEO to be flipped on soon.
  11. Yeah, but you got the "NV soon to be completed" text, so you'll be all good, right?
  12. I'm not "emoticon" guy, so my online humor can easily be misinterpreted. I meant to say thanks to you, Robert, and the rest of the mods for all you do. I don't understand how you all can put so much work into this site to keep it what it is, but it really is appreciated.
  13. You'll probably get it soon. Float around these forums a bit and you'll see members posting about receiving it all over the country within the past week or so.
  14. I understand, and I hope you realize I was only kidding around with my comments. If you pay attention to Cleveland sports at all then a failed promise to deliver an upgraded network in the next few months is nothing new to us. I don't understand why Sprint thinks it's necessary to send a mass text like that out to everybody; I guess somebody made the decision to throw a quick "don't run yet, we're almost there" blanket over everybody's eyes in hopes they'll keep holding on. I truly do believe we have some major upgrades in our market right around the corner, we just need all the planets to line up in perfect order and a freak lightning storm to settle in and we'll be all set.
  15. And I bet he was excited! Stop trying to bring us down, we've been through far worse than waiting out a network upgrade.
  16. Hey man, call us ignorant but we're eternal optimists in Cleveland; we take even the smallest positive and run with it. Take for instance our motto: there's always next year...if we focused on reality (negativity) we would all just wither away into balls of anger and hatred. FWIW, I just got the text too, and I'm excited!
  17. Sprint didn't give up the 800 MHz privileges, but Nextel was able to broadcast within the IBEZ because the bandwidth Nextel needed to operate on was much more narrow than was is required for 1x, and especially for LTE. I know I'm off on my lingo, but I look at it this way: Nextel needed an off road, gravel path to operate their PTT whereas LTE needs a 4 lane highway. Because LTE (and even 1x) require much more bandwidth, they need to work with our Canadian counterparts to ensure there's no interference. I'm not optimistic that we'll see band 26 (800 MHz LTE) in our area anytime soon, but we've got some sort of exception in place to operate 1x800, which by itself will greatly improve Sprints native footprint even if it's only on 1x.
  18. You obviously don't have to be a Sponsor to post, just a member (which is no cost). But the info that becomes available to you once you become a Sponsor is astonishing. Believe me, I'm with you - I never give my money to unknown sources online simply because somebody told me to. It took me a good 6 months of floating around these forums before I was comfortable enough to give my money, but as you can see from my info I've now donated enough to reach Premier Sponsorship level. Once again, the info that would be made available to you is well worth the price of a McDonalds Value meal with a side six piece of McNuggets w/ Sweet & Sour sauce (it's lunch time now and I'm thinking about food).
  19. This site wouldn't exist without Sponsor donations, therefore the info you're looking to obtain wouldn't be available to Sponsors if it weren't for the donations. It would be sort of like trying to go to the library and check out books but never paying taxes to support the library. Sponsorship is the cost of a lunch out, it's not going to break the bank - and the information provided will be well worth it, trust me.
  20. Well thank you for shattering my dream of making a positive contribution to S4GRU with your wealth of knowledge, AJ...back to the drawing board I guess.
  21. Weird, I'm using Digi's PRL 513, I wonder if my phone somehow picked up channel 150 but never actually registered a connection (if you look at the screen shot I don't show the typical 3G icon, just 1x). It's an iPhone 5 (CDMA version obviously).
  22. Could that be the downlink carrier channel, effectively placing it at 1937 mHz (1930 + (.05*150)?
  23. First time I've ever seen channel 150 used in our market (Cleveland) for EVDO: . Using AJ's calculations from his article a few months ago, this would be 1850 + (.05*150)=1857 MHz (could be way off, but that's my college try at understanding it). I don't have time to look at the former Revol licenses that were transferred to Sprint, can anybody confirm if this is a new carrier from the Revol license acquisition?
  24. To answer your inquiry, three...three people knew that (including yourself).
