There is one lone native Sprint site down in Beckley, never been able to figure out why it's there, but perhaps this tower is being upgraded since all the rest of the native Sprint towers in WV are currently being deployed (up near Parkersburg off of I-77). If you become a sponsor you'll have access to the map that would show you exactly where that tower is located.
  3. I know a couple of you guys are new here, but all you need to do is donate a few dollars and you will be blown away by the information available to you. The staff on this site is not paid, the money strictly goes to keeping the site running. Robert, the admin, doesn't want to flood the sites with pop up adds either, so they rely 100% on our donations. In regards to the status of NEO (Akron, Ravenna, downtown Cleveland, East side, West side, all of NEO), equipment is being installed all over; I'd be willing to bet that at least 50% of the sites (towers) have most of the NV equipment already installed, they're just waiting on backhaul to get fired up (50% is probably a conservative guess). We should be seeing many sites getting turned on with both LTE & 3G upgrades in the coming months.
  4. There's three solutions that I know of for these scenarios: 1. COWs (Cell On Wheels) - they are just that, temporary cell sites brought in for special events for added capacity. 2. DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) - many stadiums these days are having these installed, paid for by the carriers. I'm just learning about these but basically they're a small network of antenna distributed around a high density area. Verizon put this in at Browns Stadium (First Energy Stadium) and the browns are touting it as a "better fan experience" because your cell phone will now work...unless you're not on Verizon (or AT&T, but I havent confirmed that). I can tell you my phone was worthless this past Sunday, but the win was worth a heated paperweight in my pocket! 3. 2.6 ghz spectrum - once rolled out, Sprint has such a huge amount of spectrum, this should help in dense areas such as stadiums and concerts. None of these are perfect solutions, anytime you have that many people in one place, a network is gong to be strained. But ANY of them are better than what most of us have experienced while at an event.
  5. So has anybody been able to jailbreak ios7 yet? Everything I've found online seems to be a gimmick - It's been months since I've had my jailbreak and I'm dying to get it back.
  6. Maybe this is a dumb question, but could I take a CSIM out of a 5S and pop it into my iPhone 5 and have the phone authenticate on the network?

Much to my dismay I found to he exact same RRUs on the ground at the site that covers my house - I saw the crew up on the rack on my drive home so I circled back an hour later and although the crew was gone most of the equipment was still on the ground. I was optimistic that it would be NV gear, but the tower is shared with TMobile, there were Nokia Siemens logos and boxes all over, and the antenna IDs were similar to Sprint but did not match the Sprint site ID info. No Samsung gear anywhere to be found....I guess it just wasn't meant to be yet.
  8. AJ, I agree with you that most iPhone users don't even know what a engineering screen is let alone have dialed *3001#12345#* to get there. But most iPhone users have also never heard of S4GRU either, so that general statement should not be applied in a iPhone forum here. For whatever reason, the iPhone 5's 1x engineering screen omit many important details, and yes the OS is much more locked down than non Apple devices (much to the dismay if S4GRU iPhone users) but the LTE screen does read which band the phone is connected to as illustrated by a previous post. I for one am curious to see if any 5s/c's have connected to 800 LTE.
  9. From documents I've seen the IBEZ is 100 km (about 70 miles) from the Canadian border which lies in the middle of Lake Erie. Akron is right at that border, however I've seen a document where the 30 mile radius around the cities of Akron, Youngstown, and Syracuse NY are excluded from the 'Exclusion Zone' due to their proximity to the edge of the border zone and their heavily (relatively speaking) populated areas. Additionally, Sprint has already activated some 800 MHz sites out near Ashtabula & Vermillion / Sandusky which leads one to believe that NEO has some sort of exception in place, at least for a 1x carrier; it still remains to be determined if Sprint can fire up 800 LTE. For what it's worth every upgraded Sprint tower that I've seen in NEO has the necessary RRUs for both 1900 & 800 frequencies, and LTE would just need an additional carrier card and some fiber hook ups to be turned on, so time will tell if we'll be seeing 800 LTE around here.
  10. Sorry that wasn't your fix and good luck resolving the issue, it's never fun to have a brand new device and not able to enjoy all of its capabilities. Other than not using LTE, how do you like the phone?
  11. PRL update and reset network settings are standard, first level attempts to fix issues like you're having. I just quoted you in the other iPhone thread, but has your issue been fixed by using those methods? If not, call them back and make sure they have the proper ICCID activated on your account (ICCID can be found at Settings - General - About).
  12. I bet it has something to do with your SIM card - I had the same problem when I upgraded to my 5; call Sprint and make sure they have the proper ICCID activated on your account.
  13. Unless you live in the IBEZ where 800 won't exist (for the near future anyway) and band 41 is already active...maybe I'm the only one disappointed it's not tri-band.
  14. Well, I'm not immune to running some Speedtests - I drive by the tower at Rt 18 & I-71 in Medina pretty regularly and of the tests I've run I get upper 20's down and between 5-8 up, but that's typically off peak times.

I've run my share of Speedtests before, but man talk about overburdening a network...from what I understand about Sprint's 5x5 LTE deployment, those speeds aren't even possible which means that has got to be a jailbroken iPhone where the user changed the carrier name. Maybe once band 41 is deployed that could happen and we all know that the 5s isn't capable of that band, but especially not a 5.

The most I can share outside of the Premier Sponsor thread is that Cleveland, Columbus, & Cincinnati are all "In Progress" and the roll out of band 41 for our market should be complete by the end of the year. Its not quit as simple as just saying that because we have Wimax, therefore we'll have LTE on band 41. I don't want to fork over the money to grab a Tri-band hotspot and I was really hoping the iPhone 5s would be Tri-band, but it was not meant to be. I'm contemplating getting the S4 mini if it is in fact tri-band. So right now I don't have any way to test it, but trust me when i say that greater Cleveland should have solid coverage of LTE in band 41 right now.

By Sept 2014 the entire Cleveland market should have very good 1.9 LTE coverage; and if you get a Triband device (first available I believe is the LG G2 in November) most of the Cleveland market is already covered by 2.5 LTE today. I wouldn't count on any 800 MHz LTE for the next couple of years due to the IBEZ (although there may be some sort of exception in place for the NEO market), but we should have very good 1.9 & 2.5 by then.
  18. If the cabinets are in a shed or small building it is next to impossible to see them, so good luck there. But as far as the antennas / panels are concerned, feel free to take a pic of the racks and post here, I'd be happy to look at it. But I will say that AT&T has panels / antennas with RRUs that you'll see around the area as well. I've typically seen them with two larger, thick NV looking panels with two small legacy sized panels on the outside; then only one RRU mounted behind one of the thicker panels. When you first start looking at this stuff it's easy to think they're Sprint, but once you find a true Sprint NV rack you'll know what to look for pretty easily.

The thread at this link shows you everything you'll ever need to know to look for in our market: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3906-how-to-spot-sprint-antennas-and-rrus-samsung-style/ The most obvious details you can see are on the racks and they are two large Remote Radio Units (RRUs) that will be mounted behind one large, thick panel. The larger panel is the new NV equipment and is typically mounted between two, smaller, thinner legacy panels. On the ground you can look for the new cabinets (base stations) which are two similar sized cabinets (check that link for more details on that). There is progress all over Cleveland and once you know what you're looking for you'll begin to notice it everywhere.
  20. A triband device. That's why I was so disappointed to hear the iPhone 5s excluded band 41 because I suspected we'd be seeing LTE on that band sooner than I'll see it on 1.9 or 800 (especially considering I live / work / travel throughout the IBEZ and 800 is essentially useless to me).

  22. I am very disappointed that Apple did not include band 41 in the 5s...for all the reasons mentioned earlier, but for selfish reasons as well. I live and work in the IBEZ, and therefore I don't anticipate widespread 800 anytime soon - although my market has shown some ability to include 1x SMR, it's still not a forgone conclusion that North East Ohio should expect 800 LTE on any or all sites. On top of that, LTE on both 1.9 and 800 can only be rolled out in our market as fast as the crews can install the new equipment, backhaul, etc. We do, however, have 2.5 Wimax available throughout our area so I was very excited to see if LTE is live yet; at the very least I would anticipate the roll-out to be much quicker for 2.5 than the 1.9 and / or 800. When the iPhone 5 was released it was reported that it would not be compatible with the AWS bands that TMobile was rolling LTE out on, only the PCS bands which were far more limited. But if I recall, Apple pushed out a firmware update to the device enabling it to operate on TMobile's AWS frequency. Could the same thing be possible for the 5s and band 41? I know it's not likely, but is it even possible since band 41 was not included in the original FCC filings?
