  1. Yes, but it's also tied to your cell number if you choose - I for one don't like texting people with my email address as the ID. On my iPad I have my iPhone cell number selected as my outgoing ID and my "number" associated with my iPad deselected, however, anytime I mess with the SIM in either my phone or my iPad something always seems to get screwed up with my ID on iMessage. I'm just curious how jumping between carriers affects your ID. I'm also curious how this would be handled if the Apple SIM idea ever transfers over to the iPhone - if Apple could somehow hold the phone number on the SIM and you jump between carriers with the same number that would be ideal.
  2. How does iMessage work when you switch between carriers? Does your caller ID change and you have to manually select another outgoing ID?
  3. Anybody tried plugging an Apple Sim into last years iPad models (Air or Mini w/Retina)? I had to argue with every genius in the local Apple Store just to sell me an Apple SIM so I could test it in my Mini w/Retina but once I finally got my hands on it I'm only getting an Invalid SIM error. I realize that all the info says the Apple SIM is only compatible with the new models, but I'm thinking its a software lockdown and I'd be curious to see what would happen if an "activated" Apple SIM got plugged into last year's model

  5. For what it's worth, it appears that VZW has already begun reframing their PCS spectrum to LTE in the Cleveland market. This was taken from a VZW iPhone 6 in the Eastern Cleveland market a couple weeks ago:
  6. Swype is another third party keyboard, not a function of Swift Key: Swype - Keyboard by Nuance Communications https://appsto.re/us/RfQN2.i
  7. FWIW, I think Josh said it was his best friend's cousin's phone so it was probably lost in translation - I'm just curious what type of drop, fall, or running over by a car caused that kind of damage....
  8. That makes me cringe just thinking about it. How did it happen? Also, on the bright side, Apple now repairs broken screens: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/screen-damage/ Looks like the 6 is $109 & 6+ is $129 as long as no other damage was done to the phone. If this is a good repair its much better than having to replace the phone outright.
  9. Ultimately the only difference between two 5x5's and one 10x10 is peak speed. 5x5 theoretical max speed is like 37.5 Mbps where 10x10 is twice that; also wider channels tend to perform a but better at fringe areas; but from a capacity standpoint there really isn't an advantage of the larger channel.
  10. You'd be surprised where they have placed the Spark panels - we're a legacy WiMAX area so they're using those panels on the interim where WiMAX was already deployed, but I've seen the new panels on sites all over the place, rural sites included. I couldn't speculate as to why you're on Extended because even when they're upgrading the sites to Spark they're not turning the other bands off - I'd guess that you have some sort of outage in your area. When you get the chance I'd call in to customer service and report it / find out if they can see what's going on. As far as prioritizing the bands - I don't think it's possible on any phone - even the G2. You may have been able to alter some settings in the background, but ultimately the network will dictate which band you're placed on whether you've changed the settings on the device or not. Regardless, I don't think there's any way to alter those settings on an iPhone.
  11. There's a lot of possible reasons - for example my phone occasionally jumps on Extended when I go into our basement and sometimes clings to the Roaming signal for a while even when I go back upstairs. Toggle airplane mode and the phone will cycle back through signals and if Sprint is there it will land on Sprint. Did you notice how long you were roaming (Extended) for? If it was an extended (no pun) period of time there may be a tower outage or some type of upgrade issue occurring in your area. For what it's worth, 1x800 is in our area right now, but it's only being broadcast using testing SIDs so without a specialized PRL it's no benefit to the typical Sprint consumer. The good news is that at least being testing now; the bad news is that I see that you have an iPhone, and the way the iPhone PRL is designed for whatever reason 1x800 is last priority so the phone will cling to 1x1900 for dear life before looking for 1x800.
  12. I hate to tell you this, but that's not 1x800 - you're just roaming on VZW cellular 850 (see the Extended where the carrier usually is). It's cutoff from that screen shot, but if you can capture the System ID that will tell you which carrier you're roaming on. I'm assuming it's VZW because they own virtually all of the Cellular 850 MHz in our market.
  13. Has anyone actually confirmed that the Sprint iPhone 6/6+ is locked domestically yet? There's many reports out there that the TMobile unlocked iPhone 6 has the CDMA radios activated and if you plug in an active VZW sim it will work; Without digging back a few pages, I recall Nahum plugged his TMobile data only SIM with no success, but I'm just curious if anybody has tried putting an already active (with a phone & data plan) TMobile, AT&T or VZW SIM into a Sprint phone yet? If it works then the resale of the Sprint model would increase significantly. Conversely, has anybody tried to plug a Sprint SIM into another carriers model? I'd be very curious to if another carriers phone is "whitelisted" on Sprint's database and if so to see if the band 41 radios are actually active or not...
  14. Even if they are turning on 1x800 in your area, good luck getting your iPhone to connect to it. The only time I've ever connected ton1x800 is when I was jail broken using a custom PRL that prioritized it or when I was 20,000 feet above Gary, IN. I got all excited those few times I was able to connect, but the real-life functionality was basically non-existent. Maybe other's experiences have been different, but the lack of ability for an iPhone to connect to 1x800 has been frustrating for me.
  15. They neglected this area because of the prevalent run-on sentences...#priorquote...comma, semi-colon, anything?
  16. That's another beef I have with Apple - they could put out one SKU now that's capable of operating on all carriers, but they're in bed with the big two and their business model is so dependent upon subsidized prices that they cater to the carriers. Example: the model number for the VZW iPhone 6 is the same as the AT&T version, except that the CDMA radios are activated on the VZW model. You could conceivably purchase a VZW phone at full price (which comes unlocked out of the box) and put an AT&T sim in it and gain the option of using virtually any network but Sprint. But alas, we'll all keep buying the new iPhones when they come out and the cycle perpetually continues...I complain and then I turn around and contribute to the problem.
  17. As with previous iPhones though, the unlocked versions will most likely be GSM only and not available (white listed) to be activated on Sprint.
  18. Don't forget, Apple is selling an ecosystem. Once you're in it's very difficult to leave. People are willing (by the millions upon millions) to pay these prices, so is Apple really profiteering or simply capitalizing on the current market conditions. I don't want to derail this thread and get into economical / philosophical discussions, so let me just say that I think $950 is an absolutely outrageous price for a phone; but there's a market for it and Apple is capitalizing on that.
  19. Unfortunately it's dictated by the market. I would love for the iPhone to be price comparable to the Nexus 5 and simply allow expanse SD storage, but the masses will still flock to these phones and the prices will remain what they are. 3 years ago I bought a 32 GB Class 10 Sandisc Micro SD card for like $30....today $100 more for the upgraded memory is basically about $93 more dollars per phone to Apple's bottom line.
  20. What is BS about the pricing is that they didn't raise the base model from 16 to 32 GB of storage. I guarantee the thought process is that most consumers would be more than satisfied with 32 GB and would purchase that model, but 16 GB is too low so Apple is forcing them to throw the extra $100 for the next level. They bump you up to 64 at that level so you get more for your money but this is a classic Apple strong arm technique. Even though I'm aware of this, I'm one of the sheep that will most likely drop the extra $100 for the 64 model though...
  21. It's a $100 premium over the 128 GB iPhone 6. Prior to today the 64 GB 5S was $850 off contract as well, so the 5.5" screen is a $100 premium over that phone. Again, I'm not saying it's not a lot of money, but it's Apple, I'm not getting any sticker shock.
  22. Those are the same un-subsidized prices as the previous models, only the mid and top tier give you twice storage of the predecessors for the same price (64 & 128 respectively). I'm not saying it isn't freaking expensive, but this isn't new.
  23. Nice write up Robert, I particularly like this, "So now you data hungry iPhone users can start spreading your loads on the Spark network." Sorry, but the 6th grader in me couldn't resist....
  24. No way can they afford to miss release date on an iPhone. If for some crazy reason B41 isn't ready for a few weeks / months on the Sprint variant they'll do what they did with the S4 and release a non-Triband version first; but I highly doubt it's devoid of B41 from the gate.
