  1. I just had a thought - how difficult would it be to add wifi info to the app in addition to cellular? I have a dual band router with the same SSID for both bands and I'm always curious to know which band I'm on without having to log into the router. Signal strength in dBm as well as the channel within the band you're connected to would be useful info as well.
  2. I was probably confusing when I mentioned AT&T's "strongest signal" - I was just joking about their new add campaign and how frivolous a strong signal truly is but how much of a big deal AT&T has made it. I have a data only TMobile SIM that was activated on an iPad, the one that gives 100 MB of data per month for no charge so I can't really run around town running Speed tests. Plus it's just in my Sprint iPhone 5 so it's only able to grab the HSPA+ around here. However the one speed test I ran was 12 down and 3 up and from what I can tell they have pretty decent coverage. TMobile is on the same tower as Sprint to cover my house but for some reason they've done a better job optimizing because there's a good 10 dbm better difference on TMobile. VZW has the area blanketed in LTE, I haven't dropped to 3G once. Speeds on band 13 aren't crazy though - but I've only run two tests and one was 2/4 down/up and the second was 8/4 but I know they have band 4 all over the place so that's running better, I just can't get it on my 5.
  3. I've only had access to TMobile & VZW Sims so far - I have a Straight Talk Sim that will work on AT&T, but I don't feel like putting down the $45 for one month of service just to play with it.
  4. Didn't you hear? AT&T (Cricket) has created the "strongest signal" in America! I got my old iPhone 5 unlocked and there's something fun about plugging in different SIMs to play around with the different networks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Looks somebody is rocking a Cricket SIM in they're freshly unlocked iPhone 6 Plus.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Yeah, I don't speak in source code or core telephony files....I probably can't help.
  7. What details would you need? I could get engineering screenshots from VZW 20x20 band 4, 5x5 band 2, 10x10 band 13, and TMobile band 4 (not sure of BW in my area), and perhaps TMobile band 1. Edit: on second thought I don't really know how to read the TMobile engineering screens, they're totally different than Sprints and VZWs, so I'll need some direction there.
  8. Anyone know how to update the PRL of an inactive iPhone 5 without any sort of jailbreak? My old device is stuck on 31100 but I'm only using it as a test device right now, so I'd like it to be on the most current PRL.
  9. I may have missed something, but does this mean you're creating a non-JB version as well? All of my devices are already upgraded to 8.1.3, so no JB for me, and the beta version you put together is awesome and has everything I need. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Another method is that when you're navigating, touch the three dots in the lower right, then mute. Unfortunately that turns all audio directions off, but at least it won't go through your speakers.
  11. I was ready to go through the restore process, but I figure is just give the SIM a shot before going down that long and lonely road...and it worked! It's an inactive device and I'd reset and restored the phone previously - I don't know if that has anything to do with it. This is the link that was in the email from Sprint: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5014 And even though the instructions say to back up and restore, I didn't have to for some reason.
  12. No, I got an email from the Sprint international unlock department saying that in the next 4 hours my phone should be unlocked. I then plugged in the TMobile SIM, turned the phone off and back on and it worked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I went through the international unlock department and was able to get my iPhone 5 unlocked for domestic carrier use. All told it was a frustrating experience and I had to go through a few reps, but in the end I'm super excited to finally get my old phone unlocked. For what it's worth the reps that I spoke with said it would only be for international use, but I popped in both a TMobile & Verizon SIM and both worked flawlessly: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. If you're not already aware most brands are guaranteed for the life of your device (Zagg for example). They'll send you a replacement and you just need to pay ~$4.95 for shipping & handling and return the cracked product.
  15. If they're replacing your screen then your home button / Touch ID will be replaced as well. My Touch ID was working maybe 40% of the time, but since I've had my screen replaced I haven't had it fail once.
  16. MMS messages use data, so if she's not going to get a local SIM and she doesn't want to pay the crazy data roaming rates, she can just go to Settings - Cellular - Roaming - and turn off data roaming. That way she can leave iMessage running but it will only send / receive iMessages when there's a valid data connection (if she's connected to wifi), everything else should be sent through SMS. She'll need to go in Settings - Messages - and turn on Send as SMS for that to work though.
  17. This is probably stating the obvious, but don't forget that iMessage will use data so she'll need to either turn off iMessaging or ensure that data roaming is turned off on her iPhone. Unless of course she picks up a local Sim card. In that case, she will then get a new cell number which can add a bit of confusion. Personally when I travel I like the local Sim card so I can use my phone as is and I just warn people to look out for my new number when I'm texting them and / or use my email address as my iMessage caller ID. If she plans to get a local SIM, she needs to have Sprint unlock the phone for international use ahead of time. When I travelled to Canada a couple of years ago I bought a Rogers SIM on eBay and then purchased a top-up card after arrival to activate it (unfortunately I wasn't able to activate it until arrival - at least at that time). You can get top up cards in pretty much any convenient store. Rogers had good coverage everywhere and a decent prepaid plan - not as cheap as some of the others previously mentioned, but data coverage was excellent wherever I went and prepaid worked well and was easy to maintain.
  18. I was caseless as well - well, I had a dbrand skin on it to help with scratches and to give better grip, but essentially caseless. Saturday my 1 year old swiped my phone out of my hand onto our tile floor. It landed on the upper right corner, cracking the screen. It was just a slight crack, but a crack nevertheless. Rewind to a few weeks ago I had read that there's a manufacturing defect with the front facing camera and that it will slide out of position, creating a slight crescent moon shape. Because it's a manufacturing defect Apple is replacing the screen at no charge. Sure enough my phone has the problem - it didn't impact the pictures at all and was barely noticeable so I didn't do anything about it...until I cracked the screen. I set a genius appointment yesterday afternoon citing the camera flaw and they replaced the screen at no charge. I think had my crack been larger or more noticeable they may have challenged me, but they didn't ask a word. I was in and out in under an hour. Side benefit: my Touch ID was previously always hit or miss; I just thought it was how it functioned. Since the screen has been replaced my Touch ID has been flawless. Needless to say I'm back in a case and I just had a Zagg Invisible glass put on the new screen last night (Best Buy price matches Amazon, so I got it for $15 with free application).
  19. It's a slippery son of a gun without a case - I think I've found a great solution though: https://dbrand.com/ It's a skin but it's been great because it's as minimal as you get while actually adding just enough grip that the phone is not nearly as slippery.
  20. I've actually had the opposite experience, I've been using my iPad mini even more frequently now with the interoperability between devices. I have the cellular model, so I can use the mini all day and save my iPhone 6's battery.(Sorry to bring back a topic that's a few days old...)
  21. Everything I've read about lithium ion batteries in smart phones, 2.1 amp has no negative effect on your battery. It's all I use anymore because it charges soooo much faster and I haven't noticed any negative ramifications on any of my phones / tablets.
  22. I totally agree, I just wish there was a way to use Google Maps as the default Map though.
  23. There are days when I just wish I could go back to my old Blackberry 8830...email, texts, calls, and the occasional choppy website. Oh, times were so much simpler back then - and nobody cared what kind of phone I had!
  24. So can I - and in fact that's the setup I have on my iPhone, Mac Mini & iPad. But as a perfect example I took the SIM card out of my iPhone the other night and swapped it for another (I managed to get an Apple SIM from the Apple Store so I was testing it out in my phone), then replaced my original. I then sent an iMessage from my Mac Mini to my brother and the caller ID switched itself to my Apple ID (email address) from my cell number. Then when I texted (iMessaged) my brother from my iPhone the next day the outgoing caller ID showed up as my Apple ID (email address) even though I was texting from my phone. I'm always having these issues with iMessage. (I know, delete the thread and start a new one and your ID should reset itself, but it's just a pain). My concern is that when you're constantly switching carriers on your iPad, what effect does that have on you outgoing caller ID? I'm guessing that as long as your iPhone remains intact and that number is your outgoing caller ID on all devices you should be ok, but I don't have an iPad Air 2 so I can't test it....hence the question.
