  1. Came to Sprint in the year 2000; can't remember all the model numbers Moto 850 Push to talk..2000--2003 Blackberry 8300 Blackberry Tour Sanyo Katana LG Rumor Touch Sammy GS1 Epic Sammy GS2 Sammy GS4 (come Aug 1, 2013...depending on degree of NV deployed here in the Vegas area)
  2. Gotta say I'm impressed..went inside the RIO today (as promised) up on the second floor by the burger bar where I get the awesome wimax reception and loe & behold pretty good LTE from a tower that is 1 mile away as the crow flies; rssi level of -92 dbm oscillating up to -100 dbm; download speeds ob 6-8 mbits and upload speed of 5 mbits FOR a GOOD to WEAK signal as per my SW Tri-fi hotspot; boy did the web pages load fast as in usatoday which typically takes a few seconds just ripped; If i had any doubts about the potential of NV and the Sprint version of 4g LTE they are now gone; i can just imagine the experience when all the towers around Las Vegas/Henderson lite up..wow!!
  3. Well, my upgrade on Aug 1 this year just got more problematic; lets count the variables here: 1) iDen shut off 2)Clearwire takeover by someone somehow 3)resolution one way or the other in how Dish plays in the Sprint sand-box 4)Wimax shutdown and/or protected sites remaining for my Wimax devices...I had decided to go S4 (single-band) until this announcement hit today now I may just sit tight with the S2 until the smoke clears on all this stuff before re-upping for two more years..can this soap opera get more convoluted than this?
  4. I sure hope Sprint lets me trade in my current SW Tri-Fi for the New Novatel MiFi 500..sounds sweet; probably be an ETF involved or what Sprint now calls an upgrade fee...LOL
  5. Woe..one of my favorites from DS; not many of the Facebook shepple even remember DS or their lead man Mark Knopfler who IMHO was (still is I guess) one of the best guitarists of all time..maybe top 10; rings back lots of memories of the 80's for this old guy
  6. Grabbed it..cool app Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
  7. I think you've hit on it..Dish might even have the FCC over a barrel on this as it would not want the spectrum to go unused and it probably could not force Dish to employ it..Dish makes a ton on the sale and 4 carriers is whittled down to three..I guess it could go down like this...huge gamble on the part of Dish
  8. Somehow I believe that IF Dish pulls this off all that Charlie will have is spectrum, a huge pile of debt, and potentially an unfinished rollout of NV... for some reason I just can't see the real motive here: who really wants to watch TV or movies on a mobile device? That business model, IMHO, implies a huge paradigm shift in how we use our smart phones..possibly I'm showing my age here!!
  9. My SW Tri-Fi is capped at 3GB so I won't be an abuser of LTE IF I get a decent signal at the house; I mostly stream music with iMatch over Wimax for a few hrs a day using an Apple TV and keep s/w updated on three Mac's , one Win8 laptop, and two QNAP NAS boxes..very little video streaming..so for me having LTE at the house in the 3-7 Mbps range is heaven; that way I can keep my Cox bill in check as they constantly are upping rates for broadband to offset losses to their video subscriptions
  10. I'll do the testing regardless; my motives were and are good here..I knew the closest LTE broadcasting tower was a ways west on Flamingo; my curiosity was and remains LTE propagation distances as I15 shows pretty good Sensorly tracks by the RIO; I do not for a moment mean to demean or insinuate that ultimate LTE building propagation relates at all to these simple-minded tests ; I live in a place where if I get LTE at all eventually it will have to be from a tower 2-4 miles away over hilly terrain hence my curiousity
  11. Well then, Digi, how is Sprint LTE broadcast at 1900 MHz going to be any better than Wimax if we can't use it inside of buildings? Years more wait while 700 MHz becomes a reality or does some miracle happen when iDen is shut down in June?
  12. Where, then, is the LTE source for all the Sensorly splashes on I15 both north & south? The RIO is but 1 1/2 blocks from I15.. I expected to see SOME LTE inside the RIO
  13. Daughter works at the RIO...Sensorly shows lte up & down I15 but not INSIDE the RIO; I'll be going there next week; upstairs on the second floor I get the strongest Wimax signal INSIDE anywhere I've been in Vegas..so I'll take my SW Tri Fi and MacBook to see how strong LTE is at the same spot; I can't map it (no LTE phone yet) but I can hopefully get some download tests to share; if I get an LTE signal I'll move around in the casino to see how well it penetrates..
  14. Good questions all..as a Sprint sub here in the Vegas area and daily user of Wimax AND a phone upgrade due in two months I'd like to know the answers...(1)hang onto my Sammy S2 (Wimax) or(2) hope Sprint really nails LTE with NV & spring for an S4 with a new 2 yr contract OR (3) bail and go to T-Mo...unfortunately with all the distractions now with DISH and ownership of Clearwire it's unclear how ultimately this plays out.. hopefully come Aug 1 LTE here is more of a reality & I can go with option (2) above..
  15. Sprint chat personnel in my experience are at best "challenged" in their knowledge generally; Sprint would be better served in either 1) improving the knowledge level of these folk or 2) dropping the service altogether; IMHO, they give Sprint a black eye
  16. Yes, wiz welcome to our burg..been here for 10 years myself after 25 in Colorado; I suggest you check your debit/credit cards at the door until you get accustomed to all the gambling temptations around here...pays dividends in the long run..just some kind advice from an old guy that's been there and done that!
  17. Boy that is slick! Can't believe I'm actually seeing LTE in the Vegas Valley!! Yahooooo; BTW, Josh I resemble being tagged a NERD; that's only for my wife and besides who ever heard of a 65 year old NERD!!
  18. Pillow, with a bit of condescension, all in here probably have negotiated on things in their lives and that is not really the point of most of the replies to your question...what is germane to the discussion is that this question belongs elsewhere not on a site that has at its core mission the understanding of NV, its rollout in various locales, and implications for Sprint subs; this question would be better put to the Sprint Users Group forum or any of probably three forums on wireless communications..no offense meant..just saying..
  19. Oh no..this can't be true..after all my years of hanging on...I can't yet believe it..
  20. I guess I'm older than most here but I worked in technology all my life so I have a "young" attitude and certainly don't wear a tin-foil hat ; around here in Henderson, as Josh pointed out ,my guess is I'll NEVER have a high and robust LTE signal cause all the golf courses and retirement communities won't allow anything but minimalist towers; I cut the cable this year for Cox but do get 1 Mbit broadband from them enough to keep my Tivos updated and to slowly update all my computers from time to time...point of all this: LTE was to be & I hope still is my hope for a better internet experience for a few years until Sprint has to reel in their unlimited data caps; I tried a Big Red Hotspot and both LTE and 3G reception were horrible at my house; I get decent Wimax (3-5 mbit down) on Sprint so I use that most of the time w/o a router; for me when Wimax is shuttered and I don't get good LTE at the house I'll be going back to a 1 mbit world (at least at the house); so to the OP, I feel your pain, but their are a lot of folk like you out here with the same problem
  21. Sorry if this is a repeat..but as much as I would like to have an S4, as with Beejis above, I'm going to go S3 for a year or so until Vegas/Henderson really get LTE..I'm expecting the S3's to drop radically in price over the next few months..
  22. Guys & Gals here, for what it is worth on this forum, if Sprint falls far this trap of Dish I too will be history with them; this marriage can't be good and the new company would be so debt-constrained the promise of NV, IMHO, would never reach fruition
  23. I'm eligible for a phone upgrade come Aug 1; right now my inclination is to go from an S2 to an S3 given that the S4 will only operate in the 1900 MHz LTE band; the S3 undoubtedly will drop in price significantly between now & Aug
