  3. I figure 95% of my smartphone usage is for data/texting, not voice. And half of my voice usage is hands free or speaker phone. So my device would better serve me with a bigger screen than a small form factor for yakking. That's what I figure anyway. Robert - Posted from my E4GT with ICS using Forum Runner
  4. Now that I am using a 7" tablet so often, when I go back to my E4GT, it feels so tiny. I want a bigger smartphone. I'm thinking phablet. Robert - Posted from my E4GT with ICS using Forum Runner
  5. Are you sure you are in NM? I'm heading to the ABQ car show. Robert - Posted from my E4GT with ICS using Forum Runner
  6. The coverage shown in the referenced Atlanta map is live now. And we will be adding more sites to this map in the next week with even more coverage. Robert
  7. They didn't go through any extraordinary measures to "make it." Given all the other requirements of the device that were necessary, it just is. And it's not a bad thing. It will give Sprint flexibility in the future. There are many places geographically where Sprint will not have enough SMR spectrum to deploy a 5x5 LTE carrier. They could elect in those locations to at least install an EVDO carrier for customers to use. However, I have never seen one document that says Sprint plans to do this. But it is something they could do. Robert
  8. I'm not clear which coverage maps you are referring to. Sprint will likely only show coverage that is live on their coverage maps, not future coverages. But Sprint is not posting any LTE coverage maps at the moment. Here at S4GRU, we currently are only showing one LTE coverage map. And that's in Atlanta. And it only shows live LTE coverage on the map. We may consider in the future doing future coverage maps for interest. However, we have our hands pretty full just creating live coverage maps at the moment. We will post static images of our coverage maps in public areas, however the interactive coverage maps are in our Premier Sponsor area at the moment. Robert

  10. Yes and no. EVO LTE will use Sprint's 1xAdvanced on 800 and 1900. The EVO LTE is 3G EVDO "capable" on 800, but Sprint has no plans to put 3G EVDO on 800 SMR. But if they ever should, the device could use it. Robert
  11. I do also get a lot of failures on RootMetrics in sub 100kbps speeds. It seems to be related to ping when that happens. It seems to me when I go over to SpeedTest app when that happens, the ping is over a second. In those instances where ping is normal, but speed is not, it seems the RootMetrics app is able to cope. That's my observation. Robert
  12. DFW market deployment is going hot and heavy. I don't have any specifics to report at this time other than our NV Sites complete map that we update a few times per week in the Sponsor section. I don't see any evidence for that at the moment. Markets the size of Richmond that have WiMax seem to be specifically selected not to be in the first two rounds of Network Vision. And the people who live in similar sized markets without WiMax are happy for that. Where markets are geographically make little difference in deployment. For instance, if the crews were leaving Norfolk went to Richmond or Central PA, what's the difference? Only the difference is mileage once when they relocate. But in reality, these crews will not likely relocate anyway. 90% of NV work is done by subcontractors. And the subs often change from market to market. So this makes the market order even less important from a strategic planning perspective. In some sense, a lot of Network Vision could be done simulateneously in many more markets. But Sprint doesn't have the manpower resources to manage such an undertaking and doesn't have the cash to pay for so much work in such a short period of time. It would be a disaster!

South Jersey is not in the first two rounds of NV deployment. But Central and North Jersey and Philly are. We keep maps of completed NV/LTE sites in our Sponsor section. We are just starting to create LTE coverage maps in our Premier Sponsor section. Robert - Posted from my E4GT with ICS using Forum Runner

I'm not certain the rate VZW deployed. But given that VZW is putting 700 LTE on much less total sites, Sprints deployment rate is unprecedented in wireless history as far as I can recall. VZW did not install 700 LTE at every site in the markets they have deployed. They just deployed enough for seamless coverage based on 700 propagation. They are then going back and adding more in existing markets for more capacity after initial launch. So even though VZW LTE deployment had been fast, that has to be kept in mind. Sprint, even if it rolls out slightly slower than VZW, will actually be much more impressive because Sprint's scope of work is so much greater. Robert via NOVO7PALADIN Tablet using Forum Runner

  16. By what I've seen, Sprint is instructing their stores to alert customers that they have not launched their LTE network in their area. But they may "discover" LTE service earlier. So all of these active sites now would just be discovered. I think its another attempt by Sprint to try to under promise and over deliver. Robert via NOVO7PALADIN Tablet using Forum Runner
  17. I hear a lot of pessimism and jumping to conclusions. One of the chief goals of the Clearwire/Sprint LTE collaboration is to prepare the TD-LTE and FD-LTE networks to seamlessly handoff to each other for devices for both carriers. Sprint and Clearwire are completing their initial testing and preparing design parameters for OEM's. There is no indication in what I've seen that there were any issues between the two LTE networks. Much ado about nothing. Robert via NOVO7PALADIN Tablet using Forum Runner
  18. To clarify, Sprint is deploying one 1xAdvanced carrier for voice and 1x data this year on 800 within Network Vision deployments. This carrier will not be active the day the site goes live. However, after enough room is cleared from the iDEN thinning and reorganization, the 800 1xA carriers will go live. Maybe as soon as this Fall in some areas. Existing 800 CDMA capable handsets will be able to use this right away. However, this will not occur in all markets because of rebanding, etc. Sprint will be deploying 800 LTE carriers later in 2013. They will not be in place of the 800 1xA carrier, but spectrally right beside it. The 5x5 800 FD-LTE carriers will not be be deployed at every site nationwide. Because Sprint does not have 14MHz of 800 nationwide. Some more details about that will be in our 800 article. Robert
  19. I had to google 'cromulent.' Being a Sprint network nerd, the word is not in my vocabulary. Cuz the Sprint network is never cromulent. Well, not now. But soon! Robert
