  1. Work is underway in the STL metro I area. There are 4 LTE sites accepted. More and more will go live every week. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  2. A Samsung source told me a few weeks ago that they are trying to get all their markets started before summer. They really want to be the first OEM done. They want to use Sprint NV to be a spring board for more work in the U.S. Network Vision was the first large scale Samsung Network contract in America. Samsung wants to become a dominant player. I've had a few WiMax Protection Sites that I could not authenticate with and get a data connection. I've always wondered if Clearwire users would have had the same problem, or if it was a network authentication issue that some sites were not configured correctly. Also, with the OG EVO and Epic 4G, you could not connect to a Protection Site while the device was roaming. Originally, it was set up with WiMax that some part of the authentication cycle on Sprint devices used the Sprint network. No 1x Sprint connection, meant no WiMax connection. It was OK to lose Sprint native coverage after connecting, but if you weren't connected to the Sprint network when trying to acquire a WiMax connection, then you could forget it. Later WiMax devices like the EVO 3D and Motorola Photon did not have this issue. And I believe the OG EVO and Epic were fixed in a later OTA that allowed them to connect to WiMax regardless of any other connection. Robert
  6. How do you know when your HSPA+ is on PCS? Is it just an educated guess based on performance, or do you have some means to verify channel or band that I haven't yet discovered on the Nexus 4? Robert
  7. Glad to see you've already found your way around here. The water cooler is in the back. We hang out there a lot, but we only stock Sprint Lemon Kool Aid in it. Come Neal, drink the Kool Aid. Robert

  9. Also, Sprint allows you to upgrade at 20 months. But your contract is for 24 months. So you cannot leave before 24 months without paying an ETF. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  10. I don't know if it's true everywhere, but in the places I go where Tmo is on EDGE or GPRS, Sprint 3G is solid between 1-2.5Mbps. These sites tend to be the least burdened on the Sprint network and can even run just fine on legacy backhaul. Like the one next to my house. I don't think I've ever had an instance where my Sprint 3G didn't far exceed the performance of Tmo EDGE. And I carry a Tmo Nexus 4 with me every day/everywhere. And there are many Tmo sites here in New Mexico that do have HSPA+ on them in rural areas, but it still runs at 500k to 1.5Mbps, because the backhaul hasn't been upgraded. However, if I go to Santa Fe or ABQ, Tmo is handily better than Sprint in performance. Well, I should say outdoors. Because Sprint has better indoor coverage. It seems like the number of buildings where I get zero coverage from Tmo inside is 3x more than on Sprint. And that can be frustrating to me. If I'm within 1 mile of a Tmo site, then there is no problem. But beyond a mile or so, indoor coverage in commercial buildings is a plague for Tmo in their current network configuration. There are so many variables and different needs for each person, it is almost impossible to make recommendations. You need to do a side by side comparison. The differences are many, and the weight you will apply to each difference is very personal. Tmo is a worthy competitor. It just comes down to what is important to you. 11. This is what I did. And after paying the device cost, the $30 per month extra cost is nothing. So now I just keep both. I use Tmo in urban/secondary markets and Sprint in tertiary and rural markets (where I spend most of my time). But as NV comes to my area, I will probably use Tmo less and less I'm guessing. 12. It most likely means you're getting service from the other side of your house and your house is blocking the signal. For instance, if the signal was coming from a site to your north, and your front door was on the south side of your house then in your back yard you could have a good signal (IG your neighboring building behind you is not too close). You could also have a weak but usable signal inside. However, the south side of your house would be poor or not usable. But outside your front door you would be in an RF shadow created by your home. As you walk away from your front door toward the street you move farther out of the RF shadow and signal would reappear and get stronger. Probably more and more until you get to the first building across the street. This is common when you get more than 50% of the coverage distance away from a site when you're on LTE 1900. And this may be what you're experiencing. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  13. Work is just starting to begin on full build sites here in the ABQ market. Keep your eyes on local towers and report any activity seen with pictures and we can help you identify whether it is Sprint work. Additionally, two GMO sites received backhaul upgrades on Friday and should have very fast 3G speeds...Montano near Rio Grande Blvd. and Academy at Tramway. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  14. The signal most likely came across the river from Philly. LTE work has not started in South Jersey market yet. But probably will in the next month or two. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  15. It will take awhile. Sprint will probably launch the market when it reaches 40% of sites converted. That will probably be this summer. However, full market completion of every site will probably be at the end of 2013 or early 2014. Complete coverage will happen long before all the sites are converted, though. For instance, Verizon still only has about 60% - 75% of their sites converted in markets with complete coverage. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  16. The whole West Washington market is being deployed. Each site is being worked on and turned on the moment it is ready. Rural sites tend to come on faster because they have little no permitting and will come out and inspect work more frequently and faster. Since Sprint allows each site to go live immediately, you get to see which order they come on. If they held them all for months and turned them all on at the same time, then you'd wouldn't be aware. This is a better method that allows people to use the ones that are complete instead of just leaving them there. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD

  19. The first LTE sites are still a few months out in the GA/SC Coast market. However, the first LTE sites in the South Carolina market are probably a few weeks away. It will be quite awhile before there are any SC launches, though. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  20. These are in the North LA market. So fast, only GMO sites have been work on in this market. Full builds will begin pretty soon, if not already. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  21. Two things...one, you may be getting 3G from a different site than the LTE ones. Therefore, the 3G signal is stronger. Two, LTE signal is more fragile. Your device needs a stronger LTE signal to be useful than 3G EVDO. LTE maxes out its usefulness at -95dBm RSSI, whereas EVDO can often work up to -105dBm. As far as penetrating earth, no RF signal can. If it's hard enough, like rock, and smooth, it can bounce a little. Some frequencies bounce better than others. But nothing will penetrate the ground.
