  1. I was made in Iceland. Really. My Dad was stationed at Keflavik in 1975. I was almost born there too. But my Mom made a Winter escape and landed in Grand Rapids, Michigan in time for my birth. Wireless is cheap in Iceland because of me. You can send me thanks via a PayPal donation. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  3. The Lounge is open to our members. If you want to set up a Lounge Meeting at a specific time, for a specific topic, you're more than welcome to do that. I may even stop in the moments I have time. I am now starting to get settled into a routine here in South Dakota. I was thinking about re-establishing a periodic S4GRU Lounge Chat, moderated by yours truly. Probably once per month. Could start in November. Robert

  5. Yes. If broadband is important to them. Or lobby their representatives. However, your geographic location does not give you a right to violate Sprint's Terms & Conditions. Period. If people want to violate the rules, why don't they become Verizon customers and try to just circumvent their data caps some how? Because it's difficult and not allowed. It's just as not allowed to try to use your unlimited Sprint phone in an unauthorized manner. However, because it's easier to break the rules than bypassing Verizon's data caps then it should be allowed? Hell no. If you are looking for a home ISP, Sprint smartphone unlimited is not the answer. Unless you can do everything you need at home using your smartphone and its screen. Then I say go for that. Stealing from a store is unlawful. Stealing something from a store that you need is just as unlawful. Unauthorized tethering is a violation. If you live in a rural area, get a hotspot. Heck, get one from each carrier if you want. Then use them within their allotments. Or even run over and pay the fees. But that is the right way to handle living in a rural area without broadband options. I lived in rural areas since 2002. I completely understand the predicament some folks are in. I am for the first time in many years living in town and getting a very robust 100Mbps service to my house. However, except for an occasional emergency used sparingly, I did not tether unauthorized. I paid for the appropriate plans and used them within the T&C's. And I had to make adjustments to my lifestyle accordingly. Like not streaming things. If living in a rural area with poor internet service is a higher priority for some folks, that's fine. But it doesn't give them the right to violate Sprint's T&C's. Sprint is not in the welfare rural wireless broadband business. Robert

  7. I hope that's not directed at me. I have no problem with people using, actually using, their smartphone data while using their smartphone. So long as they are not in their home surrounded by their WiFi network. I have a problem with people cutting the cord and trying to use their Sprint smartphones as their personal WiFi and routers. Unlimited is not meant to be used this way. The rest of us should not subsidize other Sprint customers to use our network as their home ISP. However, if you leave your home WiFi and you want to play games or stream things on your smartphone, go for it. If it becomes a problem for Sprint, they will add more capacity or change the rules. But if you want to use your smartphone data for something else, you need to get a hotspot plan or MiFi. Anything else is abusive, unethical and a violation. I don't consider these points moaning. 8. I used WiMax on that site in Fresno back in Spring 2011. It's been active for years. But it is just one Protection Site there. That is all. Robert
  9. The NV Sites Complete map is up to date. It is complete when Sprint accepts it as complete. Not just because someone can see equipment installed. New panels, RRU's and cabinets is not a completed site. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  11. Any nTelos activity you discover will be greatly appreciated. We have next to nothing when it comes to nTelos info. And welcome to S4GRU! Did you move to Lynchburg to go to Liberty University? I'm finishing up my degree at Liberty Online and my eldest son is enrolled at Liberty too. Hope to see you around. Robert

    LG G2 Users Thread!

LTE is not new. LTE on Band 25 is not new. Multi-band LTE devices are not new. Only thing new here is TDD LTE on Band 41. I don't think there is a hardware issue here affecting Band 25. Just a feeling though. I would like to know what people's G2 LTE Engineering screens say when they are in these weak signal areas and won't connect. Robert via Samsung Galaxy Note II using Tapatalk

    LG G2 Users Thread!

I will beat you up before AJ does. Number 1, AJ reported the EIRP. That is just the signal strength of what the device is transmitting back. AJ has said countless times this is an imperfect way to determine reception strength. So AJ hasn't said anything that has been contradicted. Number 2, it is still likely that reception is still strong, but software is overriding the connection. It's quite possible (as mentioned above) that since this is a Triband device that the threshold is set different for Band 25 than a Band 25 only device. Because it is designed to fall back on Band 26. Since there is no Band 26 coverage out there yet, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an update to modify the Band 25 thresholds. LG G2 Users Thread!

There is variability in the quality of signal. A poor quality -108 RSRP signal may not be usable, but a decent quality -120 may be usable. Also, the device can play into the factor of a weak signal being usable as well. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro
  18. It says Band 26 connected. However, those are definitely Band 25 channels. Interesting. Robert

  20. OK, here is how the recurring works. If you click on the Donate button on the top right hand corner of the forums page, it now has a monthly recurring box next to the donation amount box on the following PayPal page. If you would like to make recurring monthly donations, select this box and put in the amount of the recurring monthly donation amount. This can be cancelled anytime in the future should your finances change. Feel free to put in $5, $10, $20, $25...whatever your monthly budget allows and you're willing to support S4GRU with. However, it appears that only monthly recurring payments are supported. Weekly or bi-weekly does not seem to be allowed at this time. But this is good news for all you folks who have been asking for this feature for a long time! Thank you all for supporting S4GRU! Robert

  22. To echo your point, Verizon said they plan to start VoLTE service, but never mentioned shutting down CDMA. They have tens of millions of CDMA users and it will take years for there to be so few of them on the network to shut it down or force upgrades. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  24. I have now received two notices from PayPal for two S4GRU members who have selected regular recurring donations to S4GRU. I know many of you have been disappointed that you haven't had this option before in the past, and it appears now you can set up a regular recurring payment scenario on your PayPal account. It's called an "Automatic Payment Profile." You can set that up on your PayPal account with your next donation to have it automatically donate monthly for an amount you choose. Information about how to do that is listed in the post below this one. If you've thought about utilizing an automatic payment system in the past to support S4GRU, please do so. One of the problems with our funding is that it's highly cyclical. We often have dry spells of little to no donations. To have a good portion of members on auto pay would likely stabilize our funding to be more even and useful. I thank you in advance for your consideration of this service to support the site.
