Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge User Thread

If you have bought a GS7 Edge or Note 7 since August 3:  Are you aware that Samsung is offering your choice of a free Fit2 fitness tracker or a free memory chip for GS7 Edge & Note 7 buyers.  Check the Sprint web site for details.  My daughter's phone died a couple of weeks ago and she bought a GS7 Edge on my account.  The reselling store was not aware of the promotion, but I was shopping at a local Best Buy for a Fit2 for my other daughter, and they told me about it.  I pulled up the Installment Agreement for the GS7 Edge and submitted it through the Samsung web site, and just received a verification that the purchase qualifies and that I should get the Fit2 "within 12 weeks".  $179 retail value.

Question for those of you that have owned this device for quite sometime now.  Where is the data activity indicator while your using LTE data?  Did they do away with the upload and download arrows on the S7?

No more activity arrows or spinning sunflowers. Webpages just load without the distraction.

The latest flagships on sprint all perform pretty well in my opinion.  The htc 10 performs really well if you would like to stick with htc, the s7/s7e/n7, g5 perform pretty good as well.

Would love to stick with HTC.  I don't love the Samsung interface.  But just based on the camera & display reviews I think I'm going to either do the S7 or maybe the Nexus 6P.

I was a loyal HTC user, but the 10 was released too late for me and I went with the S7. Wireless Charging and Samsung Pay are the bomb. Touchwiz was a bit jarring after Sense, but a different launcher mitigates the impact. All in all, I'm happy with this phone.

My S7 got the September security update. No sign of 3x CA in the engineering screens. I admittedly didn't pay attention to the change log.

I'll test SMS over wifi later today hopefully. That's been what's holding me back from using wifi calling at work up until now.

The non-community page only lists "Android Security Patches", so that's weird. Plus I'm on the September 1 patch and the link you mentioned says August. https://support.sprint.com/support/article/Find-and-update-the-software-version-on-your-Samsung-Galaxy-S7/WServiceAdvisory_542_GKB95567-dvc10180008prd?INTNAV=SU:DP:OV:UG:SamsungGalaxyS732gb:FindAndUpdateTheSoftwareVersionOnYourSamsungGalaxy

Does anyone know why kind of modem/radio is in the G930F variant? I'm trying to find out if it's 4x4 MIMO capable.

It should be, given all US Galaxy S7 models are using Snapdragon X12. That said, I don't know if Permissive Changes are being filed for the GS7 models on carriers other than T-Mobile.

Thinking about getting a S7(non edge) only question is will it work with a MHL adapter. My note 4 did but x pure doesn't. Thanks all.

The mhl adapter I used with my s3 and s5 does not fit easily into my s7 edge. I don't wanna force it.

I've read the same online, some people sanded it down to fit but got mixed results of it working or not. Doing some research some say it's a module in the phones not software. I bought a cheaper one at bestbuy for my note 4, if the Samsung one works with the s7 I'll just get it. I miss watching YouTube or twitch on my tv.

  • 3 weeks later...

Update to the always on display feature... Go to settings > display > always on display > about always on display and click to update.

I use the feature and now there are more clock options, colors, and background images. I think you can use any background image you want now. Which is cool, but will probably eat more battery than just using the clock/calendar.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No specific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
