According to Fiercewirelees Dish is looking to hire a CMO first to start up the wireless part of the business.

The fact that they are hiring a CMO first means that they will probably be an MVNO to either Sprint or T-Mobile. Probably lease Dish's spectrum in exchange.

Sprint makes sense because of the available 2.5 GHz spectrum. If Dish markets video as the selling point of their service, then they will need vast amounts of spectrum and Sprint has plenty. On the other hand, Sprint does not really need Dish's spectrum. They could use Dish's spectrum near their PCS Block G.

T-mobile makes sense because they need Dish's spectrum a lot more than Sprint, so it will cost Dish a lot less. I don't think Tobile's network currently can accommodate Dish's demands.

Maybe they can start by being an MVNO of Sprint and then choose either or both providers to host their spectrum.

Wow, so all the T-Mobile love is just posturing? Are you talking about a spectrum sale? Hosting? How will it play in terms of the ATT/Directv merger? Coopetition? Edited by bigsnake49

Spectrum sale and hosting.

Specifically my area and surrounding areas and no doubt elsewhere they're targeting pcs H block and adjacent holdings.

Word is that they'll utilize it for wireless to the home service using 4x4 mimo equipment or similar technologies via macro sites and small cell pico sites feeding from the neighborhood uverse fiber to the node cabinets which are spaced in a manner that no subscriber can't be fed less than 24 Mbps on copper (so a 3-4000' or so from each other at max).

No idea on how the hell Att is going to pay the billions to do it along with their other domestic and international adventures.

What is a CMO?

I was wondering that very thing.  The article just starts using the acronym without ever defining it for those of us who aren't corporate executives.

It would make much more sense for Sprint to host the spectrum adjacent to PCS G (PCS H + 2000-2020MHz)

Chief Marketing Officer

I know, hence why I was joking.  But it seems that a CTO would be a better choice to "jump start" Dish's moribund, meandering wireless business.

It will be interesting to see what ends up happening since Dish has flirted around with Sprint, T-mobile and now ATT. Verizon must feel left out ????

I wrote a topic post here this morning about the Dish possibilities, among others : http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/6990-googlesprint-and-a-little-bit-of-disht-mobile/

I'm hoping Dish will purchase T-Mobile, or at least sell their spectrum to T-Mobile, particularly here in Chicago, since T-Mobile needs it in order to bring up their AWS LTE, at least sell maybe a 5x5 portion of AWS spectrum to T-Mobile here in their Chicago market, so T-Mobile, which already is bringing AWS LTE here to 15x15 in July, with this added spectrum could bring it up to 20x20.

Look at it this way, we can see the DeathStar implode (to quote Oasis) like "Champagne Supernova in the Sky"...

AT&T probably sees it more like this:

Now witness the fire power of this fully-armed and operational battle station!

But of course we all know that didn't work out as expected.

So the spectrum sold at the auction was spectrum that doesn't work for currently available devices?

Uh, yeah.

But if you did not know that, you are qualified to run a T-Mobile news web site.

I read so many wireless websites that have conflicting information where some said it did and some said it did not. I was just meaning to verify it here on S4GRU. Plus, it had been awhile since I read about the technical specifics and with everything ongoing in my life, including my pain management situation, I wasn't really thinking about the inner working of AWS3.

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and could potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.  — — — — — The old permit expired for this site without any work being done but a new permit was just approved a few days ago for a T-Mobile site at this address. Description mentions 3 antennas with 2 RRUs per sector. My guess is they're doing something similar to what they did at 360 Furman St in Brooklyn where they broadcast Band 2/66 and n25/41 from one antenna. It's a bit of a downgrade considering the site it's replacing was a full build with Ericsson 6449s.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
