I'm not certain the rate VZW deployed. But given that VZW is putting 700 LTE on much less total sites, Sprints deployment rate is unprecedented in wireless history as far as I can recall.

 

VZW did not install 700 LTE at every site in the markets they have deployed. They just deployed enough for seamless coverage based on 700 propagation. They are then going back and adding more in existing markets for more capacity after initial launch.

 

So even though VZW LTE deployment had been fast, that has to be kept in mind. Sprint, even if it rolls out slightly slower than VZW, will actually be much more impressive because Sprint's scope of work is so much greater.

I can attest to that. Coverage is "seamless" in St. Cloud but I am lucky to break -85bdm. I went to Minneapolis, and I was getting between -60 to -85bdm.

 

I am currently getting -117dbm LTE in my living room. Poor

That is probably not RSSI but RSRP (or another LTE specific signal strength measure). If RSRP, one conversion factor that I have encountered is to add 14 dB.

The fair comparison would be in equivalent spectrum (both in propagation and in bandwidth). And 10 MHz x 10 MHz of Upper 700 MHz spectrum is certainly not equivalent to 10 MHz (or even 5 MHz) of BRS/EBS 2600 MHz spectrum.

Completely agree...put WiMax on 700MHz at same bandwidth and see what happens....

Clearwire just put a foul taste on the whole standard as they were one of the only ones using it, and on that spectrum and the way the deployment went, it can't compare to what VZ has done on 700MHz...which is what the reg consumer sees...

And I'm just thinking about it in simple market terms...Sprint will have LTE covered everywhere roughly that currently gets Sprint CDMA service(omitting the areas that have other providers like in west Kansas) right now within a 2yr deployment...Verizon seems to be taking longer to do theres...On top of that I'm still surprised that they are using little dots to mark LTE areas instead of a blanket coverage shaded map...

 

By 2013 end it will be interesting to see the marketing ploy Sprint goes with...ESP if VZ is still deploying its LTE then and not fully covered its service area...

South Jersey is not in the first two rounds of NV deployment. But Central and North Jersey and Philly are.

Yes it will be interesting to see what Verizon will say when they are still lighting up new LTE areas when Sprint finishes. I'm sure that will hurt their stockholder confidence in some way that a carrier less than half their size one upped them!
