For those coming to Las Vegas for CES:

http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/ces-2017-visitors-get-free-uberx-rides-up-to-10-from-sprint.htm

LAS VEGAS (BUSINESS WIRE), January 03, 2017 - Sprint (NYSE:S) is teaming up with Uber to help attendees skip the long cab lines during CES®. Building on previous successful collaborations with Uber, Sprint is providing free UberX rides (up to $10) from the Las Vegas Strip or McCarran International Airport to the Las Vegas Convention Center from Jan. 5-8.

It’s simple and easy for CES attendees to take advantage of this offer. Uber enables users to simply push a button and find out how to get a ride. Riders simply have to open the Uber app and they will see a special Sprint vehicle view that riders can select to take an Uber to or from the convention center for free up to $10. This will be available to riders from the Strip or downtown. It’s a seamless way to get to the Las Vegas Convention Center and with $10 off your ride, there’s no better time to tap the app!

In addition to free rides to the convention center, Sprint is also providing free UberCHOPPER rides1 of the Las Vegas Strip from Jan. 5 through Jan. 8. Just open the Uber app and enter the promo code “SPRINTCHOPPER” to unlock the free promotion. Once the ride has been initiated, an Uber will pick up riders from the Convention Center and take them to the UberCHOPPER lounge at the Maverick helipad. They will then board a helicopter and fly high above the Strip.

"Our continued partnership with Uber brings exciting and unique offers to this year’s CES attendees,” said Jim Hyde, president, Affiliates and Wholesale-Sprint. “Sprint is making sure CES attendees will be transported in style with UberX rides to the Las Vegas Convention Center and a premium view of the Las Vegas Strip after the show from a free UberCHOPPER ride.”

Riders who take advantage of this great offer will also have the opportunity to receive a $200 Uber rider credit when they switch to Sprint2.

“Collaborating with Uber allows us to deliver innovative offers that provide value to consumers, which is exactly what Sprint and Uber are all about,” Hyde said.

“We are excited to partner with Sprint to provide a reliable and affordable transportation option for CES attendees,” said Eric Wimer, Uber general manager. “Navigating Las Vegas during CES just got a whole lot easier with free rides of up to $10 sponsored by Sprint.”

Now is the perfect time to switch to Sprint and get the Best Unlimited Plan – unlimited data, talk and text. Customers can get two lines of Unlimited for $100 a month and enjoy unlimited mobile optimized streaming videos, gaming, music and data3. And, unlimited 4G LTE data for most everything else, all while on the Sprint Network.

It would be nice if sprint had excellent LTE service during CES by bringing extra capacity online. Hopefully that is more of the focus instead of handing out uber coupons.

Fortunately, Sprint has signed onto the DAS at the Convention Center.

I don't really see how one precludes the other.

I think they are assuming there will be one because of the Inauguration network announcement around the same time four years ago. That said, work on the DC network has pretty much stalled over the past year or so.

So I connected to EARFCN 40978, 41176, and 41374 in the D.C. Metro area... so maybe the DC metro area has 3 carriers active?

Great! Hopefully Sprint can flip the switch on this and push updates before the inauguration.

I didn't connect to all 3 of the same time but yes I can send screenshots later.

I live in Montgomery County which is the suburb of DC so I would assume all 3 carriers will have the same

I believe that would be the first major ALU/Nokia area to have 3 carriers on air. If you could capture a GCI with 41/42/43 as the ending, that would be one way to confirm it is 3rd carrier on a Sprint site, and not perhaps a small cell using separate spectrum from the macro sites.

That is the 3rd carrier. Wonder why it doesn't show a 3 next to B41.

Missouri is a Ericsson/Nokia market. Nokia for B41 equipment from the start.

ALU/Nokia markets still generally use ALU equipment for B41. That is the difference. We have only see one instance of the 3rd carrier in an ALU market, and it has not been repeated. That's why I am looking for verification of the 3rd carrier in the DC market, as it would be the first large ALU/Nokia market that I am aware of with the 3rd B41 carrier.

As has been mentioned multiple times, SCP only detects 3rd B41 carrier in Samsung markets (where the GCI ends with 06/07/08). It does not yet identify the 3rd carrier in Ericsson/Nokia/ALU markets. Mike is currently working on an update for the app, see the SCP thread for more details.

Hopefully a fix for Boost is in the works. It still shows B25 when on clearwire sites. I've reported that Multiple times.

SCP doesn't show it but my HTC One A9 and LG GFlex 2 sure do use it.

On any 2xCA capable device, chances are if you are connected to the 2nd B41 carrier, CA is active. CA will also be active if SCP shows the 1st carrier as well. Unfortunately, there is no way at this time for SCP to detect whether CA is active or not. The only way to see that is to check the engineering screen of your device, which also has varying success rates depending on the manufacturer.

    • Excuse my rookie comments here, but after enabling *#73#, it seems that the rainbow sim V2? requires n70 (I turned it off along with n71 - was hoping to track n66) to be available else it switches to T-Mobile.  So this confirms my suspicion that you need to be close to a site to get on Dish.  Have no idea why they don't just use plmn. To test, I put it into a s21 ultra, rebooted twice, came up on T-Mobile (no n70 on s21).  Tried to manually register on 313340, but it did not connect (tried twice). I am on factory unlocked firmware but used a s22 hack to get *#73# working.  Tried what you were suggesting with a T-Mobile sim partially installed, but that was very unstable with Dish ( I think they had figured that one out).  [edit: and now I see Boost sent me a successful device swap notice which says I can now begin to use my new device.  Sigh.  Will try again later and wait for this message - too impatient.]
    • Hopefully this indicates T-Mobile hasn't completely abandoned mmwave and/or small cells? But then again this is the loop, so take that as you will. Hopefully now that most macro activity is done (besides rural colo/builds), they will start working on small cells.
    • This has been approved.. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/fcc-approves-t-mobiles-deal-to-purchase-mint-mobile/
    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
