I've seen att adding new antennas in my area recently. Glad they are because I may I have to move to them since my Sprint is still unbearable to use here.

I hope they can get it together because I'd return.

I stayed in Arlington for a few days a couple months ago and b25 seemed to be humming along okay. 3G was slow as molasses during peak times, but I wasn't surprised there. I have a history of falling back to 1x when the 3G congestion was too bad, though I haven't needed that option since getting a tri-band LTE phone. I think band 41's capacity will probably definitely help ease congestion, though I didn't get any while I was there

Data isn't so much the issue, but it's the extremely late texts and calls that never come through. B41 is excellent in the city and parts of MD you can find it. B26 is there too but needs tuning.

I've started just using Google Hangouts Message as text to most of the people I text with so I can still text/message people using other devices besides my phone.  Like my tablets and my laptop.  I miss Google Voice integration, and this is the next best thing.

In another observation I have recently discovered about AT&T LTE, at least in my area, the LTE GCI Hex equals the AT&T Site Number + Two Digit Sector Number.  I sure wish that was the case for Sprint!  Makes LTE signal spotting painless and precise.  I don't know if this is only true of my market or AT&T Alcatel Lucent markets, or all AT&T markets.  But I like it.  Take note of that, John Saw.

I saw some guys hanging antennas on an AT&T site in Mississippi that was HSPA only. I also ran into some guys doing AT&T band 4 work at the hotel I stayed at in Little Rock AR. Definitely not seeing this work stoppage talked about.

A new one went live in Plankinton, SD after you went through on Wednesday but before I went through on Friday. They're moving quickly around here. Hopefully it means ALU is actively integrating right behind crews.

I noticed that ATT had widened their band 4 LTE to 10 MHz wide last I was in Baton Rouge. And I know that they are moving all UMTS to 850 and taking PCS for LTE soon, if not now.

 

Where in MS are they still overlaying LTE?

Yes, they have a 5mhz pair in AWS but after the Cricket purchase was approved they moved over to the 10mhz pair in AWS. I haven't seen them go back and light up the 5mhz pair yet.

 

In Mississippi I saw them South of Natchez working on finishing Highway 61. In the last few months they have lit up band 17 in the St Francisville, Angola, Jackson, Clinton, etc rural areas North of Baton Rouge. I have mapped some of it on Sensorly recently.

Here neither (Myrtle Beach)... they are building up the city right now and fast with LTE OVER THE TOP of Horry Telephone Co... I wonder if it was a buildout requirement -- or they are really doing it for the tourists -- or if they now have control over HTC here finally..

My area only needs permits for brand new sites so I rarely check for things.  Occasionally I'll see VZW or AT&T permits for new builds.  I saw this one this morning.  It's 3500 feet from another B4/B17 LTE site, not a low signal area by any means.  Nice to see proof that permits are still moving forward.

I think it's going to largely affect their WCS and CA deployment if anything.  It doesn't seem to be impacting their initial deployment of Band 17/4/5 nationwide.  I came across my first Band 5 AT&T site this weekend in Kadoka, SD.

I nearly drove off the road when I saw Band 5 on my LTE Engineering screen Friday evening. I wasn't expecting it. They had Band 4 active there for the past month. But Band 5 just went active in Kadoka this past week. It's the first time I've seen Band 5 myself.

 

Both Band 4 and Band 5 are only 5MHz channels there. But that should be ample for a town that size. In fact, one 5MHz LTE carrier would be enough.

If most of the site parameters, tilt, power, etc are close I bet you wouldn't be able to a difference with a phone.
