Sprint 5x5 vs T-Mobile 10x10

Recommended Posts

Calc 3 wasn't a difficult class, that said I barely understood what I was doing, but I did it (and passed). Now Calc 2 was a killer, I took that 4 times....

Well calc 2 was a pain but I was able to finish it in high school. I just say calc 3 because the lack numbers I remember. I still think trig/precal was the worst.

Yes, it is faster. However, you really do not speeds as fast as they are saying they can reach on a smart phone. You literally can't do anything that would be necessary to have speeds that fast. In reality 1-3 mb down with good ping is more than enough to perform normal smart phone activities (check Facebook, instagram, emails, send photos, messages, youtube etc.) Anything above what sprint LTE is guaranteeing is just, "mine is bigger than yours" talk.

Band 26 is also 5x5.

While I don't necessarily disagree with your statement that those are normal smart phone activities I think that is fairly subjective. Furthermore, none of the carriers market LTE as only for those purposes. They encourage people to download apps and other content which arguably do require faster speeds. And I can guarantee Sprint and T-Mobile will be pushing this more than the others given their unlimited data plans.

I can somewhat vouch for this.  3 years ago, I had T-Mobile. I had no issues, until I went inside a building, especially at work. While there as no 4G at the time, I sat at my office, while my Mytouch 3G sat on Edge.  Battery life? Not pleasent when your phone is trying to hold a decent signal throughout the day, and can only get edge. I would walk outside, and Bam! 3G.

I can only assume, this would be the same, if I had a 4G Device from T-Mobile.  John Legere is hyping up T-Mobile, but ... maybe in the end it's only because the company would be acquired at a higher price because they have attracted a few new subs?

I had the similar experience when I was with TMO two years ago. But now I am sitting at my desk with LTE. Also it really depends where you go, but so far I've yet to see EDGE anywhere I go... Just saying o.o

I guess I can agree with you in some part. True that Sprint does not say that normal usage is what the data is intended for...but if you have people sitting there downloading torrents, movies, etc, or whatever is hard on data usage then you'd be abusing the data. There is only so much you can do from my perspective, so somewhat subjective, with your data on a smart phone. The most data consuming is downloading big apps or youtube videos. After that, everything is is trivial in comparison to data usage and therefore it is unnecessary to have ridiculously fast speeds.

There are benefits to having an iPhone: You can't really torrent stuff over it (unless using hotspot or are jailbroken) and you can't download huge apps, due to Apple's limitations. So, realistically, us Apple users are the saving grace for the cellular networks. You're welcome, everyone!

And I can completely fine with that. I have no usage of doing stuff like that on my phone. Thats why I have a computer. Besides, most of my space is taken up by music and photos. 2.5 gigs left out of 16 :(. Might have to clear up some space soon.

yeah with any carrier it depends on your area. Here in the Dc area T-Mobile's network is much denser than sprint, until u step outside the beltway.

Luis,

I absolutely agree with you on that. Location location location! One size does not fit all,  if it works in the places that matter the most you, Kudos man!

Sprint works everywhere I need it too, with fantastic coverage, I sit at work with full bars, as everyone else, with VZ, TMO, and ATT sit on 2G with 1 or 2 bars.

I know that if I switched back to T-Mobile, I would be sitting at work, with my phone on edge, even though if I were to walk out of the building, I would probably see 4G.

Everywhere else, T-Mobile was decent, but overall the places I go, I see better coverage and building penetration by Sprint.

Are sprint towers not spaced better for PCS than T-mobile's

Yea, this is really dependent on location. In the locations I am, Sprint has always been fantastic. Especially when I drive up into the mountains in Colorado for hiking. Always had better coverage than T-Mobile.

The only complaint as of the last 3 -4 years. Speed. That is being fixed, so.. Needless to say, I am a happy camper.

In some places, Sprint has fantastic density and Tmo is meh. It is also true vice versa. In some places Sprint purchased affiliate networks with God Awful spacing. Baton Rouge and Grand Rapids come to mind. Ive also been to VZW and ATT markets that have less than stellar spacing. But this is a less problem for them with most of their markets having Cellular 850 spectrum.

I'm going to close this thread for awhile.  It is too high of maintenance for me.  I have spent so much time in the Tmo threads this week that I haven't had time to do anything else.  I cannot even do an update because I get dragged into another stroke Legere conversation..  And I cannot allow these posts to go unchallenged.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
