irev210
Here's one of Sprint's antennae on the right along with its RF amplifiers. Three antennae, made by Powerwave, are mounted in a circle and spaced about 120 degrees apart around the building's elevator shaft. Each antenna is capable of handling 800MHz, 1900MHz and 2.5GHz but require separate RF amplifiers for each band. You can see two RF amplifiers for 800MHz (top) and 1900MHz (bottom) to the left of the antenna. The company will have to install additional RF amplifiers for 2.5GHz when it decides to re-farm its WiMAX spectrum for LTE. Since when did Sprint start adding 2.5GHz antenna? Assuming this is a typo? Sim-X
Seems like there is always trolls on engadget, I just thought the pictures were cool. People seem to think that upgrading a nationwide network is plug n play. I'm just as sick of waiting for it as the next person but it is making progress. If Sprint would have stuck with wimax I think I would have jumped shipped. People just don't realize that when 4G was deployed, wimax failed so now all these 4G phones are killing the 3G network until LTE is done. I'm sure if Sprint got a redo they would do it over, but when I read what there long term plan was to fix it I wanted to stick around.
kg4icg
Thing is The FCC crippled Wimax by restricting it to a 5x5 carrier. Some time back in 2011, Clearwire had petitioned the FCC to use 10x10 carriers for Wimax and the FCC sat on it.

Sprint ought to reach out to PCWorld and ask if they can have that article on the Sprint website... by far one of the more positive articles... heck. i might print it out and give it to my Regional Sprint Sales Manager and see if we can hand it out to customers!!! @l3x
