Network Vision/LTE - Albuquerque market (including El Paso, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Roswell)

Experienced something weird this morning.  On my way to school on the UNM shuttle I tried to make a call and could not get one to go through, ever after several airplane mode toggles.  I then proceeded to do a speedtest and to my shock got 3g at a sub 100 ping and dl of over 1.5 mbps.  I didn't believe it so I did another test and got 400ms ping and 100 kbps.  I kept on getting the same bad results the more tests I did.  I know I didn't change sectors of towers because my ehrpd signal strength stayed exactly the same (signalcheckpro).  I wonder if they were testing backhaul stuff or if I truly did change towers/sectors without me realizing it.  After I got on the bus we drive around the tower on the other side, which in theory should put me on a different sector, and I still got the same slow (normal) results.  Hmmmm.....

Every time I'm around UNM or CNM it seems like there is slow speeds and calls getting dropped easy.

I work by the airport at the car rental center and speeds were terrible up until the last few days they went from averaging 60 kpbs the 700 kbps and peaking at 1.2mbps, getting better

Boy this thread has gone quiet... So I've been watching this thread for a while as I decided whether or not to switch from AT&T to Sprint. LTE was not a huge factor as AT&T's LTE service in ABQ is almost non existent and I'm usually oh wifi. That said, Sprint's 3G just crawls... I haven't seen anything that slow since I had the original iPhone 6 years ago.

Anyway, I was getting my chipped windshield repaired yesterday on Jefferson and Paseo and was very pleasantly surprised to see speeds around 1.5 mbps. I was able to browse the internet, send emails use apps with no problem at all. Really looking forward to having at least those speeds everywhere in ABQ!

One more thing I would mention is that since Friday when I finally made the plunge, I have been pleasantly surprised to get signal where ATT did not - at the Hyatt downtown, Rio Chama in Santa Fe... for all the talk of poor sprint signal, I've been getting much better voice coverage with Sprint so far!

Hmmm...I work off Jefferson, but south of Paseo, I assume @TheCUJuan was at the Safelight or whatever auto glass joint that is on Jefferson just north of Arby's.  Isn't there a tower just across the street from there, along the arroyo?  I see Sensorly's map is now showing 4G in T or C and Elephant Butte.  Who's running that backhaul, is it not Centurylink?  Probably not as it's actually taken place.

I also work off Jefferson south of Paseo... by Masthead actually and yes, I was at Safelite. But my network speed where I work (maybe a mile or two south of Safelite) is about half of what I got there yesterday morning! About 600-700 mbps

I'm just a block from you, off Sun Avenue and San Francisco and barely obtain a Sprint signal in my office, in fact I roam for much of the day when I'm in my building.  Pretty pathetic.

Maybe we're in the same building.  I just ran a speed test, 24.8KBps.  The data network here is worthless.

If 4G isn't turned on in December, I'll probably be looking for a new provider.

Lets hope that Centurylink doesn't take that long.  I would happen to agree with you but since we been waiting this long, I am in for the long haul.

I just ran a speed test and got a big fat zero as my speed and a -1ms as my ping. Huh...  :o

Once again... good thing I have wifi at work and at home... and that I saw evidence yesterday of a future network that moves lol

But voice-wise my service at work is fine.

What tower are you connecting too?  I working at Jeffereson and Masthead as well.  I have never seen speeds like that. i am on personal time this week. Maybe later I will go check out the tower across I-25 to the east. I assume that is the tower covering that area.  Sounds like upgrade problems.

How can you tell what tower you connect to? I'm actually getting some speed now lol about 250-361 pings and .44 mbps so it's back to registering "some" speed.

haha. Good one.

In the sponsors section, there is the map of all the ABQ towers. Since I have an iphone, I can't use awesome apps like signalpro or others.  However, based on the map in the sponsors area, i have made the assumption that is most likely the tower that you/I would connect to in the Journal Center.

Gotcha. Well it sounds like you work around the corner from me, so we're probably using the same tower...

If I were to guess, I'd say they are working on my tower today.

Welcome to the site!

:welcome:

Sprint ran into backhaul issues (internet connection) in parts of the New Mexico market, including Albuquerque. Unfortunately this means it will still be a couple weeks, to a couple months before LTE starts going live.

Now for the good news, many of the sites around town have already been upgraded, and have LTE equipment in place. All they need is for the upgraded backhaul to be delivered and then they can fire up LTE. Not too long after that, they will fire up 800 1x, and then 800 LTE. This will extend the range and in-building coverage well beyond what it already is for voice and text (1x) and data. You picked a good time to come to Sprint! If you can hold out just a little longer, the network will start improving by leaps and bounds in your area.
