I don't see how it wouldn't start by then. I'm wondering if it's already started.. we only have so many members here from the Columbus area, and it's possible that it's started somewhere and we don't know yet.

 

True. I stopped by two towers by my place off of Sunbury about 2 weeks ago hoping to see new cabinets and panels but no luck, though I don't have an expert eye of spotting changes. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the tower IDs in this thread but one is off Joyce and the other is off of Mock.

For those interested, the construction meeting went well. Bids are still being accepted from GCs at the moment, but they want to start soon, very soon.

Yea, I'm with you all... I've been driving thru downtown from the east side on 70 and have been having dropped calls like crazy including switching to roaming. I wasn't able to check any towers out because I was on my way to a meeting, but most of the towers on 70 just east of downtown had permits pulled in early January. It sure would be nice to see some 4G light up in the next couple months...

This will probably be one of the last couple times checking this thread (moving onto a new carrier), but I wanted to share that there was a lot of work being done on at least one of the towers located by the Bethel Rd/Riverside Dr intersection. I haven't seen them this week, but there was a crew working on it every day last week.

My wife and I went to AT&T (I pre-ordered the HTC One, she went with an S3). I'll lament the loss of unlimited data, but we almost never used more than 2GB between us, and we don't expect to use too much more data with having LTE vs. Sprint's 3G; we're figuring we'll use around 3-4GB per month.

I live in the area and don't mind taking a look. I just don't know what to look for.

I think the best things to look for are probably to take pictures of the cabinets, the antennas, and the coax connected to the cabinets if possible.

I was browsing around the sprint forum about lte in columbus ohio, and the very last comment stated that we will have it in the city by the end of Q3 of 2013.

 

Can anyone really confirm or even vouch for that because it sounds kinda sketchy? also the post even said that the crews are mostly working at night because it is less people on the network... I highly doubt that they would have people working on them towers at night but I guess you never know.

Sounds about right. The majority of markets are beginning now or will begin in the next 3 months as these are the bulk of the markets and coincides with the iDen shutdown and softbanks approval to purchase majority stakes in Sprint. The next 3-6 months will most likely have the highest numbers of cell sites being worked on and massive expansion of service on SMR 800.

 

And working at night seems about right. A lot of sites go on and off at night for testing purposes to minimize service disruption to customers. It's just like road construction crews working on the highway. Gotta work through the night if you're going to close the roads (take down the signal from the cell site) to minimize the impact on those that use the highway (sprints network).

I did a quick drive by if the Livingston/alum Creek tower, it looks like the new cabinets but CPD drove up, didn't get to compare to the new in the previous confirmed pictures... I'll check tomorrow and snap some pics.

I'd say for sure that they are new cabinets. If you look on the vent you'll see the same sticker on the outside as on the other new Samsung cabinets.

For sure, when you get those, be sure and post them in the work in progress thread! It's already been official with those cabinets that were posted a few weeks ago, NV is underway in Columbus! I'd assume they're going to start slow with one or two sites and make sure Sprint accepts them, and then ramp up the pace.

For example, if they complete a tower, will they turn it on before they complete the entire rollout of a city or will they wait and launch the entire new network for a city in one fell swoop? Seems like both would have advantages and disadvantages, but I'm just curious what other areas have experienced... And more curious because I'm close to one of these towers where new cabinets have been spotted!

They come online as sprint accepts them... So towers will start popping online until the entire market is complete (as I understand it).

They don't wait on anything, if the site is ready to go it is fired up and could be the solo LTE site for miles and miles.
