zfwjs
I'm sure this is old news by now, but I just figured out that the E4GLTE is capable of using data while on a call. I was sitting here: 14160 Trinity Blvd Fort Worth, TX 76155 at a Wendy's, on a call, and got an email notification. I did a speed test and got this: Which is way faster than I ever get with Sprint's 3G.
2fastkuztoms
Yes, the EVO LTE supports SVDO, voice and data at the same time. Welcome to the site.

Deval
I assume the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint is also capable? It is if you're connected to LTE, this was 3G Data + Voice.
obsanity
It is if you're connected to LTE, this was 3G Data + Voice. That's what I was asking about. So I guess E4GLTE is the only phone so far capable of voice and 3g data. But somehow I read here http://insidesprintnow.wordpress.com/2012/05/25/svd-simultaneous-voice-data-on-lte-phones/ that all Sprint LTE phones are capable. I know a few folks here have the Galaxy Nexus and they can't do SVD

And of course or lovely EVO LTE's! Whoot, as this is one of my favorite features!

bgguy
In addition doesn't the tower have to have NV completed to do that? Which would suggest the far greater than average 3G speed.

Don't think it has to be a NV tower. That's the HD voice thing. Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge

halcyoncmdr
SVDO capability is a side effect of other design requirements for the phones. The LG Viper LTE and EVO 4G LTE both require a dual-SOC design to achieve LTE capability and as such have dual antenna. As I understand it, this allows for two separate CDMA signals to be broadcast/received from the device simultaneously, thereby achieving SVDO. It is not an advertised feature and probably never will be on these models. SVDO only works in good coverage areas, and is not guaranteed anywhere, even with theoretically perfect coverage. Voice will always take priority over data when spectrum or signal strength is an issue.

The LG Viper LTE and EVO 4G LTE both require a dual-SOC design... No, that is no longer accurate. The Viper and previous VZW handsets that support SVDO can do so because they utilize dual Qualcomm modems, typically one MSM paired with one MDM. Typically, the MDM chipset is used for LTE connectivity; however, since the MDM is also EV-DO capable, it opens up SVDO capability. With the arrival of the Qualcomm MSM8960 (and other S4 chipsets), on the other hand, the EVO 4G LTE utilizes a single chipset that supports CDMA1X, EV-DO, and LTE, plus SVDO or SVLTE. AJ And I have been corrected. Haha. As I said, wasn't completely sure, but that's how I understood it. I understood obviously the capabilities would change over time, just never though phone releases just a month or so apart would be the time frame it would be for Dual-SOC requirements to go away.
